We all know of the almost inconceivable tragedy that struck Japan on March the 11th. The final death toll from the earthquake and resulting Tsunami is still not known, but is believed to be around 30,000. Sixteen towns have been been destroyed (not damaged, destroyed) and it's the most expensive disaster in history. I'm sure most of us have given something to the many fund raisers devoted to this tragedy, and I know that most of us aren't too well off anyway, but whatever problems we might have in our own lives, we should be thankful that we weren't personally involved in this (if anyone on N64 Forever had been involved then surely we'd have heard of it, either from them or (if the worst had happened to that person and they'd been lost in the devastation) from somene else who knew them).

Anyway, the work to help, feed and rehouse the victims continues, and more money is needed (no other country spends money on it's poor when it can be wasted on weapons or benefits for the rich, so why should we expect Japan to be any different?) and in an effort to raise money for the victims a friend of mine has pledged to make a program he was working on both free and open source. It's an operating system for the ZX Spectrum (a British micro computer from 1982, sort of the British version of the Commodore 64) which granted won't interest most people here but it will be welcomed by the Spectrum fanatics around the world, and anyway, that's not really the point, the point is that the victims of the tragedy still need a lot of help, and your money will help people who relly need it. So if you can afford it, please donate some money to help these people - the same amount of money can get you a couple of retro games you'll probably never play, or a decent meal for a family who through no fault of their own have lost their home and their possesions, and very probably someone they love.

If you're in Britain, you can pay at:

and if you donate more ten pounds ($16.15) or more then please sign your name at:

http://www.pledgebank.com/opense

as if a hundred people sign here then Andrew will release his version of the ZX Spectrum OS.

Thank you.

Kick, Punch, It's all in the mind
I donated the spare money I had in my Playstation Store wallet while the Playstation Store was giving donations. I didn't know they are still accepting donations though. If I have any spare money by the end of the month I'll donate again.
