Nintendo about to respond to Operation Rainfall?

I've got a few Wii games I'd like Nintendo of America to respect with a US release. Some of them are completely long shots, but others may or may not be so.

Obviously, fans are clamoring for the big three: Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and Xenoblade. Sadly, games like Trace Memory 2 (FANTASTIC GAME BY THE WAY!), and Disaster Day of Crisis (Good game) may never see the light of day.

I'm thinking that if I were Nintendo, there are a few options.
1. Release/Handpick the "Missing Wii Games" in North America localized on Wii to give the Wii it's final hurrah.
2. Say thanks for the attention and ignore everyone which will just create more angry sentiments.
3. Release/Handpick the "Missing Wii Games" as part of a Wii special compilation for the Wii-U.

Somehow, I'm feeling that they want to build momentum for the Wii-U, what better way to do that than by shafting the Wii just one more time?

dont be silly, NoA isnt out to get you... its a business, they just look at the numbers. if the numbers dont add up, they wont release.
and lo and behold! last night NoA said: “Hey fans, we appreciate your enthusiasm. Look for more updates to come soon!”
see? the numbers have started to add up, now they are listening.

I looooved Another Code R. I didn't even know it existed until after I completed Trace Memory on the DS and did a GameFAQs search for Trace Memory to find out where all the hidden DTS cards were located and lo and behold Another Code: R for the Wii appeared in the results.

With Xenoblade Chronicles getting its European retail release on 2nd September, gamers will be able to buy a special pre-order bundle pack that comes with a copy of the game along with its alternative cover, a poster with an electronic autograph from Monolith Soft president Tetsuya Takahashi, and a snazzy red Classic Controller Pro.

i am so getting this one! i reckon its going to be an instant collectible

It's not about being out to get me or anyone. As you said, it's a business. They don't need to do much for the Wii because it's going next year. Which is why, I think they are likely going to look at it on their Wii-U business instead.

So here it is... Nintendo's official word.

Quote:

Thank you for your enthusiasm. We promised an update, so here it is. We never say “never,” but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!

http://www.facebook.com/Nintendo/posts/126089684142160

I'm not surprised at all.

EDIT:
I really think that if Nintendo wants to play this bullsh*t, they should have just removed region locking on the console. What's your missing Wii games list?

Games that should have come to America in one form or another (FOR ME):
1. Disaster: Day of Crisis
2. Another Code R
3. Last Story
4. Pandora's Tower
5. Fatal Frame 4
6. Xenoblade
7. Resident Evil Zero (I think Japan got this...)
8. Zangeki no Reginleiv
9. 428 - Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de (Close to impossible)

thats disappointing, i reckoned they would bring Xenoblade to the US after all. All the more reason to soft-mod your Wii so it can play PAL games.
Still, im sure they must have done their homework and just couldnt get the numbers to turn a profit. Localisation is expensive, its not just a matter of translation. Box art, manuals, promotion and distribution all cost money.

This is mainly the reason my Wii is hacked, I like being able to pick up a game from anywhere in the world and being able to play it with no problems.

I'm sure it's a business decision for the most part, but it's poor PR to get people's hopes up only to bring them down days later with this. It wouldn't take them two days to scribe this message. It would likely take only a few hours to get it out there, or... totally ignore this movement.

i think they honestly made the effort, and it would take a day or two to really re-examine all the numbers and have a couple of meetings.
A proper release does involve quite a substantial investment and they were not going to decide this "just like that".

Fact of the matter is that games like this will never achieve the level of sales that outweigh the risks of a flop, even if they are succesful.
(J)RPG's only sell to a limted audience, it's very hard to launch new IP in today's market and a first party title means there's no publisher to share the cost.

Where we differ is that I don't think Nintendo re-examined this. They already weighed down whether or not they want to risk it or not. It probably happened already while Reggie was in Japan when these games were initially being developed.

Personally, I think it still has to be disappointing for fans to get their hopes up just to end up reading this kind of bull. If Nintendo released some sort of Region unlocking game disc and sold it in their online store, people would not be as peeved about this as they are right now. For one thing, the Wii already is able to display PAL video modes even if the system is from the US.

Region locking has to do with regional licensing and publishing deals with the likes of Disney and FIFA, it wasnt invented by Nintendo nor was it their idea.
So it is impossible for Nintendo to remove the lock without them getting into a lot of legal trouble

Both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are region free (To an extent, Not all 360 games are region free, and PS3 DLC is region locked) so I can see Nintendo being able to do something like this.

That's right. It's not that Nintendo invented region locking. it's that Nintendo opted to put region locking in their blasted little white box.

Here's another idea for Nintendo. Why not build a region-bypassing Disc channel and sell it on the Shop Channel? The Wii is going to die anyway by the fiscal year end, might as well open the flood gates.

Look at how little content is out on the Wii for 2011...it is pathetic. They really do need these games. A PS3 or 360 fan would be pissed if they saw so few releases.

Nintendo finally got the trademark in North America for one of the game titles but that still doesnt mean it will come out. Perhaps they might wait and release them on the Wii-U but come on Nintendo - what did we have to play for the past 6 months? Mario Sports Mix? Wii Play Motion?

I am happy I have so many retro games to play but as a former Wii fan Nintendo's lack of support is simply disgusting.

But hasn't this always been the way with Nintendo. It was the same with the Snes, it happened with the N64, the Gamecube didn't fair much better and now it's the turn of the Wii. It'll be exactly the same with the Wii U.
I think it was at its worst with the N64 - god I remember desperately hoping for new releases but NOTHING came (and PAL regions suffered the most without a doubt). Talk about games drought, it was a famine! :-/

I really don't get Nintendo's strategy when they have a good install base of users but then continually alienate them. I am strongly considering buying a PS3 this Christmas if there is another price drop (more for the Blueray player than games but there are a lot for it)

Great news and clever play by Nintendo. Why spend extra on developing games to keep the Wii alive? Just send over those games they didn't even bother to release.

Imagine if they released all these games throughout 2012:
Another Code R
Fatal Frame 4
Xenoblade Chronicles
Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Zangeki no Regenleiv
Disaster: Day of Crisis

It would be a whopping list of titles that would support both Wii and Wii U. If only Nintendo ever bothered to give the Wii a decent release list of games.

Nintendo wanted to have a solid launch with the WiiU but they completely ignored the Wii in North American this year other than Zelda (Fortune Street barely counts). I am shocked by how little Nintendo did to please its hardcore fans and bringing these games over (Some of which are already translated into English) makes sense...but made sense months ago! Next year is too late.

Better late than never but man Nintendo of America just blows this year.

Nintendo is a business. Releasing a game costs a lot of money and other resources; translation is really just a fraction of that cost.
If they don't expect a particular title to sell in significant numbers, they wont release that title. Simple as that.
They are not out to get you :)

I'm excited for the release of Xenoblade Chronicles on April 6! The first game I'll actually be buying for my Wii! lol

But more great news today with word that The Last Story will be released this year in the US! Some are saying summer but I don't think that is official. Stuff to look forward to for my Wii!

If you don't currently have a Wii, then you have a lot more to look forward to than just the upcoming release schedule. The Wii has an amazing library, so don't neglect games just because they aren't brand new!

Ninty's switched entirely over to the Wii U now, so old Japan ports are being used to keep the Wii alive for a few more months...
