All of us here in the US know how disgustingly vile Fox News is but it pales in comparison to News Corp in the UK which may have hacked the phones of 9/11 victims. Both the absurdly Conservative Fox News and the now defunct News Corp are owned by Rupert Murdoch which begs the question; if it is found that 9/11 victim’s phones were hacked by News Corp should Rupert Murdoch go to jail?

Do you mean News of the World? I thought that News Corp was a bigger company that just shut down NOTW. I do agree everyone connected in the hacking should recieve jailtime or a pretty big fine at the least. |

the fish starts to rot at the head, so yes. IF his company is found guilty, he should pay the price and not just some salaried underlings. And a very hefty fine and compensation payments of course, thats where it will hurt him most, his wallet |

Yes I'm sorry, NOTW was shut down but News Corp has been implicated in the hacking of the 9/11 victims. Maybe someone from the UK can clarify further? Nonetheless, the Murdoch family is still at the center of this scandal which appears to be just the tip of the iceberg. |

I don't believe Murdoch should go to jail. Wiretapping to get a good news story might be illegal, unethical, and a violation of privacy, but I think a hefty fine will more than compensate. IMO, something like this should be handled via a lawsuit. All of the fines taken from NOTW or News Corp, or whoever, should go to the families of the 9/11 victims. Murdoch serving time in jail doesn't solve anything. |

NOtW was owned by NewsCorps which is owned my Murdoch. NOtW was a Sunday red top paper which was the biggest selling Sunday paper in the UK until its demise last week. The Murdochs said they were closing it as the name 'News Of The World' was now stained with the phone hacking allegations. They have been summoned in front of a Parliamentary committee this coming week where they need to answer some very serious questions. As to whether phones of relatives of those who died in the 9/11 attacks were hacked is still under investigation but nothing surprises me when the Murdoch snake is involved. We keep hearing that worse may be to follow so its a waiting game at the moment, BUT it wouldn't surprise me at all. They hacked into the phone of a murdered schoolgirl so nothing is sacred! Disgusting. |

Yeah that Rupert Murdoch sure seems like a slimy character. Here in the US he runs the right-wing propaganda news apparatus known as Fox News which helped George Bush get elected and goated our country in to the senseless and expensive war in Iraq. Don't worry, though, nobody with half a brain takes Fox News seriously anymore. Lately Fox has been attempting to promote the reckless Republican concept that we can balance the United States' federal budget without increasing taxes on the people or institutions that make more than $250,000 a year. Obviously this is a Murdoch decree to help his well-heeled friends get even wealthier regardless of what the consequences are to our nation as a whole. |

From the July 18th issue of Newsweek magazine: "Then came the unfair and imbalanced politicized "news" of the Fox News Channel showing (again) Murdoch's genius at building an empire on the basis of an ever-descending lowest journalistic denominator. It, too, rests on a foundation that has little or nothing to do with the best traditions and values of real reporting and responsible journalism: the best obtainable version of the truth. In place of this journalistic ideal, the enduring Murdoch ethic substitutes gossip, sensationalism, and manufactured controversy." Here's proof of this from the 2008 US Presidential election: What's extremely troubling, to me at least, is that Murdoch has influence in the outcome of the ongoing US National debt debate presently raging in Congress through his imbalanced Fox News Channel and possibly through the Wall Street Journal. |

Colbert Report: Blood in the Water What's suspicious is that Faux News continues to ram the sensationalized Caylee Anthony story down viewer's throats yet they don't think the Rupert Murdoch scandal, which has rocked the very foundation of both the British press and government, is that important.

You're really missing something if you don't get to see the video as here in the States most of the best political insight comes from satire. As the old saying goes, "many a truth is told in jest".

yes, i saw it (well, a small part) and i did see Murdoch getting "pied". I dont think i approve of that though, the victim doesnt know the attacker only throws a pie and it could be something much worse. Besides, he's an old man and im afraid this will only gain him some richly undeserved sympathy from the general public. But that Rebekkah B. is something else... what a piece of work! Someone should have told her a long time ago that a hairdo (for want of a better word) like that might suit a 20 year old but not a grown-up woman. |

ditto. He's evil and far too powerful. People talk about how Randolph Hearst used his papers to start wars. Murdoch's empire is much bigger. But i reckon he has gone too far now. The thing is: if you "own" politicians like he did, they will resent you for it and silently pray for your comeuppance. Now they smell an opportunity to get rid of him and make themselves look a bit better in the process. Double whammy! |

Rupert Murdoch definitely had too much power seeing as even UK Prime Ministers had to pay obeisance to him. Here in the United States Murdoch's propaganda machine Fox News Channel was tragically successful in getting George W. Bush elected to the Presidency, and then was instrumental in heightening the atmosphere of terror which inevitably coerced the US in to the reckless war in Iraq. It's really quite sad what an unscrupulous man like Rupert Murdoch can accomplish when he wields the power that his media empire afforded him. Let's hope that the authorities in the UK can finally put an end to his reign of terror. |

I haven't been following it, but if they're sure he did it then yeah, obviously he should go to jail. I don't think an 80 year old billionaire would give a crap about paying a fine. Everytime Fox News is on, all I see is people arguing about political mumbo jumbo, rarely news. It should just be called "conservative politics". Its obviously got a conservative bias on everything and if you don't like it, don't watch it. I like ABC World News and CNN for news about events like the earthquake in Japan, they don't put their views on everything. And they actually talk about news! I don't really give a crap about politics, its not like my views would make any difference anyway. |

Just like everything that surrounds Rupert Murdoch yesterday's meeting with Parliament turned in to a complete circus; the highlight of the spectacle being when a protestor attempted to hit Murdoch with a shaving cream pie. None the less, just like any drug kingpin or mobster would, Murdoch and his heir apparent son claimed almost complete ignorance which was highly dubious given the amount of hush money they've paid out to date. Murdoch and his executive team apologized profusely but their resistance to name key players in the NotW's criminal activity makes those apologies disingenuous at best. |
