Hmm...looking at that post with the 4 gold/black controllers signed by Miyamoto, you can't really see that N64 logo on the controllers can you?

Finding this one would be a real treat. There has to be several of them just as Alxbly indicated. I would trade a good portion of my collection to get this one.

That is crazy that he has something so rare that there are only a handful of them in existence simply stored away...I wonder where the others are and if they are aware people are willing to spend so much on a controller as a collector's item. Excellent find and congrats!

WHAT!? He got robbed at gunpoint? Where does this guy live in the States? That is such a crazy idea to me that that could happen. I wonder if that is what happened but I do not think he would get a higher offer. I am happy to hear you got the money back Corey!

I will keep my eyes out online for any links to sellers with them. The E3 one is very, very tough to obtain since only 2 individuals actually have one of the apparent "12" that are known to exist.
Where did you get the "12" number for the E3 controller? I know your post was dated a couple of months ago, but I thought that even at that time we've already identified at least 3 owners (myself, finngamer, and Andrew Reiner the game journalism for Game Informer). To this day we've identified 4 owners and at least 6 controllers, the list is over at the E3 topic: http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/topic/7262403/3/#new
Finngamer made the approximation of roughly "12" of the controllers or so in his video of all of the N64 controllers. I believe he threw out this number assuming that there was at least 2 but probably at least 3 consoles in use for the Star Fox competition (and assumed each had 4 controllers). I used his guestimate as his video is very famous now :P and at that time was the only resource to see the controller.

I put the "12" in quotes to show it was a guestimate as we have no clue how many were used or given away.

So how do we know for certain that the special gold E3 controllers were not used during the E3 event itself? This would seem very likely that they would use the special controllers for the event too and then possibly give out ones that were used as prizes? Is there a link that can be referenced that states the evidence that "regular" controllers were used?

Thanks DDR. Finding 2 of those controllers really is outstanding - especially finding a second one in that manner you did as it was so odd to be in a Japanese box in that set. Clearly the seller had no clue.

Just wanted to add my name to the list of those who own one!

How did I get it? I traded A LOT of stuff and some money to TheGt550 after asking him how he found his and if he could ask the seller if he had access to any more. He asked around the warehouse at Nintendo and was able to find this one for me. Thanks Arturo!

I posted an unboxing video of it on youtube:

The current identified E3 controller owner list (8/19/11):

1.) Finngamer - Janne K. (not signed); acquired through trade - second owner
2.) Andrew Reiner (signed by Miyamoto); acquired through competition - original owner
3.) ddr2nite - Glen S. (not signed); acquired through purchase - second owner
4.) Coorsy101 - Corey D. (not signed) edit: seller was robbed at gunpoint, controller lost forever
5.) owner unknown - (signed by Miyamoto, Arakawa, and Lincoln); most likely original owner
6.) Thegt550 - Arturo G. (not signed); acquired through purchase - second owner
7.) ddr2nite - Glen S. (not signed); acquired through auction purchase - second owner
8.) lithium017 - Dan B. (not signed); acquired through trade/purchase - third owner
I think it is too difficult to tell if its a second / third / onwards owners. The main thing is if it was obtained from the first owner or if it is the first owner. For example, GT got the controller for me after I asked him to check so it does not really matter if it is second or third.

Congrats Willis!

Should we now exclude entry #4 from the list as we do not know where or who has the controller now?

Glad to see you sold the other ones GT! Thanks for helping me with mine again - I can't believe I own one so soon after finngamer found his. I still am reluctant to count it as one of the officially released N64 controllers as it was a prize (kind of like the Millennium and the DK64...and the NP100). I almost want to call them not officially released controllers but "Prize Controllers"

"Prize Controllers"
I like this term :yeah: maybe we can use this in the future. Instead of saying "Nintendo Power controllers" which only counts 3 of them, we can say "Nintendo prize controllers."

Then again, technically only 2 of the 4 were prizes (E3 and Millennium 2000) since the other 2 (DK64 and Nintendo Power 100) could be "purchased" by just about anyone during that limited period of time.

 Ugh, back to square 1...
How about the "Nintendo 64 Competition Prize Controllers"?

Since technically the DK64 and NP100 were by mail in random winners?

That's comment is inaccurate for BOTH controllers. You disappoint me Lithium - I figured as someone who has seen the advertisements for both, that you wouldn't make that slip of the tongue.

As you can see from both images below: ANYONE who subscribed to Nintendo Power could choose to get the DK64 controller. There is no "randomness" to it. Same with the NP100. You had to be a subscriber when Nintendo Power Issue #100 arrived in your mailbox which included the catalog. Then, anyone could pay $30 + shipping and they got one - again, no "randomness" whatsoever.

I did recall the payment for the DK64 controller but I had thought it was never a guarantee if you would get it or not (your money would be returned...especially for the NP100 one.

Ya he had half of them in existence. If he didnt find the Nintendo employees then that number would be cut in half and the controller would seem much more rare.

Cool. That makes an even dozen on known whereabouts of these controllers. From stories I have been hearing, these controllers could have more commonly been given to employees of Nintendo rather than from the competition itself. Interesting to hear

I was in conversation with Corey during that 'transaction in progress' and the guy with the controller claimed he got robbed and it had nothing to do with the controller - actually, a VERY small number of people knew about the controller at that time.

FYI - I have a Geoffrey controller too :)

Cool to hear of another one. I am all for deleting the 4th entry - we do not know the owner or where it is, and the whole things sounds overly sketchy.

That's true but we definitely know that controller existed at one point (we all saw pictures) so for the sake of archiving and databasing, we should keep that in the running list of identified E3 controllers. That's my opinion anyways.
True...I guess it is highly unlikely that the specific controller that was "stolen" will turn up again. Did we ever even get high res photos of that one to confirm it? I dont remember seeing any

Then I too agree - keep him included for numbers sake, which is starting to get rather high. I wonder - can we confirm how many sets of 4 were given out? Was there only 1 set of 4 given to the winner who destroyed Miyamato? Was it 1 given to any winner of a 4 person competition?

Do we have a link for this one? I thought Reiner received the only signed controller because he won the finale.

I think knowing the number given out is completely arbitrary. According to Reiner's story, he was the victor of the competition and received the one controller signed. Hmm...surely there can't be too many more

 (sigh)

What is it with people not reading carefully? I'll admit, I have little to ZERO patience for people who don't take their time to read things.

We are talking about the controller that has 3 signatures on it: Miyamoto, Lincoln, and Arakawa. The picture you posted only has 1 (Miyamoto). What's even more frustrating is that you posted the picture from Andrew Reiner's web article. His controller is #2 on the list. We are talking about #5.
Actually, that controller picture posted has 2 signatures: Shigeru Miyamoto and Takaya Imamura (who designed the characters in Star Fox)

That is what Reiner stated in the article himself (the left one is Miyamato and I presume the right one is Imamura). If people quickly glance at the photo, they may just see 3 different areas with marker, which might make them think 3 signatures, especially when we can't read the language and it looks like scribbles :P
