Controller Collecting Extraordinaire
I had some extra hours to kill the last few days so I decided to download Megaman X2 on my Wii through the Virtual Console. I've done some good speed runs with Megaman X in the past on the SNES and it will always be one of my favorites - not sure why it took me years to finally get around to playing Megaman X2. I went through the game twice and picked up all the upgrades including the hidden Shoryuken (but didn't use it on any bosses).

Posted Image

Interesting sidenote: so far in 2012, Megaman X2 is the only game to have been released on the virtual console from the SNES platform. Yes, there has only been ONE SNES game released this year. I'm hoping Megaman X3 will get released eventually...

Wonder what renewed my interest in the series? Because I'm waiting for the following to be fulfilled/arrive <_>

Spoiler: click to toggle

Endure and survive...
Only Battlefield 3, Assassin's Creed II, and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood so far this year. It has been almost 3 months since I have touched a video game though, so the low number isn't surprising I guess.

Although it looks like a busy gaming year for me so far, I've not been playing as much recently. Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition is probably my most played game of this year, but have also been working through other titles as well:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard DLC (22nd July)
Enjoyed this expansion enough to play through it two times; once as a vampire and again as a werewolf. It added enough to get me back into Skyrim and break the 300 hour mark on the clock.

Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition (1st Jun)
Played this solidly for about three months after it came out. Had continued in the tutorial area at first and made a wacky big skyscraper and various tunnels connecting all the houses and several caverns. My main mine was a combination of two substantial caverns which I'd mined down to bedrock level. I also built a rail line specifically to get the 500m rail achievement... didn't realise how long it would be, lol. When a friend started playing I started a new map and together we decided to hollow out a mountain... we never finished, but it kept me me interested long enough to squeeze the full 400 gamerscore out of the game.

Daytona USA (30th Apr)
A great little game, with many happy memories of the arcade game. I'd never played the Dreamcast version, so picked this up when it was on sale.

RAGE (14th Apr)
I really enjoyed this game, it's very similar to Borderlands. Overall, it's much more linear than Borderlands, but has a similar setting and play style, the gunplay is much meatier and the enemies are more varied. It's a shame it ends so abruptly, but I suppose it sets up a potential sequel, should iD ever feel the need.

Golden Axe (10th Apr)
Nostalgia in full effect. Pretty sure I never finished this on megadrive.

GTA IV: Episodes From Liberty City (2nd Apr)
It only took me two years to get around to it but I finally finished the story in the last GTA IV expansion; The Ballad of Gay Tony. It was nice to get back into Liberty City, and I still have some side missions and drug wars to complete. But with so many unfinished games I not sure when I'll actually get around to it.

Project Gotham Racing 3 (25th Mar)
This was a bit of unfinished business. I'd finished the single player with bronze medals back in February 2008, but had meant to go back and finish each race with at least a silver medal... which I finally did, back in March.

Assassin's Creed Revelations (21st Mar)
Really disappointed with this one, as it just feels unfinished. There's some nice new features such as bombs and ziplines, but neither are essential features and some of the zipline animations are just awful. The new Desmond levels are terrible, the story doesn't actually reveal anything and it's the buggiest of all the Assassins Creed games. Shame that Ezio's story ends with this, he deserves better.

Project Gotham Racing 4 (10th Mar)
More unfinished business. I'd never got very far into PGR4 when I first bought it, but spent a bit more time with it early this year. It's a really good game once you're past the first few events and the good cars start opening up. The bikes add an extra element of choice, although I prefer a nice Ferrari Enzo any day.

Lips - I Love The 80s (26th Feb)
Yeah, it's best to keep karoke to yourself, or it is with my singing voice.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (25th Feb)
An interesting sequel to EDF 2017; good simple fun if a little short in single player. Plenty of replay options and incentives but I can't see me ever replaying it enough to unlock some of the harder achievements.

The Beatles Rock Band (all songs) (23rd Feb)
I picked up a 360 guitar controller really cheaply so thought I'd give this a try. It's alright, but I don't think I'd shell out the £50-£100 for the full band set, so I've not had the full experience yet.

Mafia II (20th Feb)
A surprise this one; a really good sandbox game, with a good setting and a story twist that had me thinking about this game long after I'd finished it. I'd definitely recommend it. :)

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary (12th Feb)

It's was nice to go back to Halo, but am a bit tired of the series now. Halo 4 needs to do something a bit different.

And the rest...

Altered Beast (26th Jan)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (100% achievements) (19th Jan)
Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 (3rd Jan)

:applause:
I'm not a fan of the handling (read that as "I'm no good at it"), but the game has such charisma and energy to it, it's impossible not to love. Not sure I'd bother with the Dreamcast version, unless you have a wheel to use with it. The controls seem poorly optimised for a joystick.

I beat the Source mod, Black Mesa the other day. I'll probably do all the achievements for it once it comes to Steam, so they actually matter.
Black Mesa is a total recreation of Half-Life, for all those who don't know.
