Collecting Boxes & Manuals - Do you do it?

Just curious to see what you all collect, do you look for both loose carts and boxed games, do you aim to complete your entire collection with boxes, or do you just collect the carts?

If not the original boxes, do you make your own cases from sites like thecoverproject so you can have some sort of cover art and durable case without spending so much on original boxes that can/will lose their value if they were torn or crushed?

If you do or don't , why? Any particular reason?

I prefer to have the boxes aswel but its not life or death, i would say about a third of my collection is boxed.

I have started to collect the japanese games, and i have been trying to get all of them boxed, i just love the condition all the japanese game boxes seem to be in, i also think the box art is far better than the PAL and US ones are.

I feel if you want to try for a complete CIB collection you really need to do it from the start, thats where i failed, its harder to buy the boxes and manuals by themselves and its just a pain having to sell double ups.

I dont have my collection on display yet, its in boxes at the moment, ;_; but when i do get around to displaying them i plan to have all my cart only games in game stands and N64 drawers, the rest i will display in their boxes on shelves.

PAL Collection: 243/243
NTSC-U only Exclusives: 50/50
NTSC-U / NTSC-J Exclusives: 11/11
NTSC-J only Exclusives: 85/85
64dd 0/9

Only 9 to go.

I only collect boxed/complete games. I dont only collect n64, I also collect NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, PS1, PS2, and Xbox. I dont have any greatest hits / platinum hits / players choice for disc based games (unless a certain game was ONLY released as that, such as Fable The Lost Chapters)

Personally I am more of a collector than a gamer, and I did start with CIB from the beginning as stated above. I love having the boxes, they are fun to look at, and I love to display them on the shelves and I just love the way they look. if I were to just collect carts or whatever I found, my collection would be WAY bigger (meaning less for me to still get) and focusing on getting complete games makes my collecting take MUCH longer, and is very satisfying when I finally find that boxed game Ive been wanting.

i just buy everything i can find, boxed or not.
When i find a CIB copy of a game i already have in my collection, the loose game will be sold on or traded and replaced by the CIB.
But in recent years those old pre-Gamecube cardboard boxes are getting very hard to find in the fleamarkets i visit

I'm a collector in the sense i don't sell my games when I'm finished with them. I hold everything for future play and nostalgic purposes.

I go for CIB when the price is right which is hardly ever pretty much never as I don't think i even have any cartridge based game complete.

I'm fine with having cart only. My theory is I won't pay more for the box and manuals then the game itself cost. And as you saw from my thread I'm about to use the cover project for N64 games. Iv debated doing it with gameboy games but going to stick with just doing it to N64 games. Iv found a comfortable way to store gameboy games now.

Big issue for me is money I can't bring myself to pay that high premium on CIB.

Perfect example I want to play earthbound is has 0 ports so either you have to find the game or run a emulator.
The cart itself can be found for $50-$60 bucks. Right now on nintendoage forums someone is offering $800 for a complete copy.

I don't mind spending $50 to play the game when there is no other way besides roms but i don't need to spend $750 just for the box and manual to collect it and store on a shelf. Personally id rather keep saving toward a down payment on a condo and getting a new car. Almost always you'll pay more for the box and manual then the game to it.

Here is the guy buying earthbound for $800 its collectors like that why id never go for a CIB collection. Spending $800 on one game is just too foolish to me even when you have that kind of money to spend its a lot for one game.

boxed and complete. i dont get 'em always CIB, i usually buy lots of boxes and manuals and games all sperate. this reduce shipping costs alot and you always get dupes to trade or resell. that way, it makes it easier to grow up a collection.

I do not, but I would like to request from someone here... if possible... to scan and send me a PDF version of Mace the Dark Age manual. Pretty please?

I do both. I don't think it is necessary for me to have a CIB collection, but if I find what I consider to be a good deal on a game with box and/or manual then I pick it up. For cart games anyway. For games that are on disc I always have to have the entire package and I rarely ever buy a disc only game.

This is exactly how I am. I share the same qualities as most everyone else here as well. If I come across a CIB for an amazing price, I'll buy it and trade out the loose copy. I've done that a few times in the past.

I collect 100% complete for anything that didn't come in a cheap cardboard box. Otherwise cartridge only.

If it's a game that comes in a case then I won't buy it without a case and instruction manual. If it comes in a cardboard box, loose is ok because some boxes can look shabby and cost too much.

For n64 i only collect the carttridges because i have custom cases i will put my games in later along with the manuals to each game itself, Although manuals to me don't matter as much, If i find a good deal on some manuals i'll take it, But i won't go out of wack for some manuals, Like anything over 20$ at MOST for a manual itself and maybe not even 20$ depending the game. Maybe i won't ever get certain game manuals for 20$ but that will just mean i will go without a manual for that game. However i am going for every N64 game made, US & PAL no games duped, which means all the PAL games i'll buy will be PAL only, Every other game will be US, If i buy a jap game i will buy maybe 5. However, I am collecting a selected amount of Nes games i like or want to have, Selected amount of Snes games i like or want to have & so on for each system other than N64, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, PsP, Ps Vita, Ps2, Xbox, I came to conclusion i'll do selective collecting for other consoles.

I know i kinda went off topic beyond the N64 system itself but that was my input about collecting in general.

So my answer is I collect cart only, & get custom cases, & manuals doesn't matter, If i find a deal i'll buy, Other than that i can do without. It's about getting every game and case that matters to me.
