Is it possible to upload a video to YouTube to send to someone also on YouTube without it becoming publicly viewable? I've only just started uploading stuff so I may have just overlooked it. I'd like to either send another person some videos there on the site or perhaps to their Facebook account but I don't want them to show up on my channel or anything. Is this possible? |

When you upload the video, there's a spot that lets you make it private, link only, and public. |

You can make it private to specific users, or make a link that can only be viewed if someone sends it to you (Doesn't show up in search results, or on youtube account, etc) |

Another question. I cannot upload a video if it is over 10 minutes in length, yet I see people uploading 20, 30 minute vids, or even hours. Is that a YouTube thing? Do I get longer times after uploading so much content? Or is it the program that my camcorder came pre-programmed with? |

Another question. I've stopped using the little handheld camcorder and had almost decided to give up on doing videos altogether. But now I'm thinking about resuming and using my phone instead. My question pertains to data usage in uploading a video. Does anyone here use a cell phone to shoot videos, or have you in the past? Is it a viable way to do vids or should I stick with a camera? I was uber disappointed at how long it took to upload my videos before and if I'm going to run into the same problem with the phone then I won't even start. I can upload via wi-fi if it won't take too long. Damn, I find myself wanting to do the collection and pick up videos and other stuff, like vlogging, but the technology is standing in the way. I can't afford a nice, expensive camera and software.

First thing do you have any copyright strikes on the account? That can cause issues with the 10 minute limit. Transfer them to your computer via USB and upload. |

Another question, although this has nothing to do with making/posting vids on YouTube. I just wanna know what contact notifications are all about. I get a notice from time to time that so and so has added me a contact on YouTube. What does that mean? That someone has put me on their e-mail list so that they may send me spam about their channel? I can't see any other explanation but I never get any mail from these people. It is kinda creepy.

We're all watching you!! You can subscribe to peoples channels so that if a new video appears you get notified and you can add friends and send messages etc, i don't use that bit though |

contacts are really pointless now, they are mostly used for people to spam you. lol. I reject every one I get unless I recognize the name of the account as a retro gamer. |

Another question, this one in reference to watching YT vids actually. I always select to watch videos in 720p as that seems to load ahead the best without a lot of buffering. But I always seem to have to select that option. Is there a setting on YouTube where every video always plays in 720p, unless a lower resolution is all that is available? |

If you click the drop down menu on the top right, select "settings" Then at the top left of the next page select "playback" There are some settings in there for resolution |

Hmm, I changed a setting in that and went to watch a video and I still had to select the 720p option instead of the 360 it seems to always be set to by default. Oh well, thanks for the info Highlander. |

If you use Chrome and want videos to load in HD automatically, get this extension. If you use Firefox, I'm sure there's a similar extension/addon but I don't use it enough to know. |

Thanks for that, but it wants me to pay $9.99 for it. Seems steep for something I can do on my own, even though I find it a bit annoying to do so. |

It should be free. Are you sure it's not just asking for you to donate optionally? |

I think it did work, but as soon as I clicked on Add to my Chrome it went to a screen saying I needed to pay. I have watched a few videos on YouTube and they have all automatically went to 720p though so it appears to work. Thanks! |

Bumping this up to ask a question of any of the YouTubers here but also to anyone else with computer knowledge: what is the best way to learn about video editing? Online courses? Is there a good editing program that helps you learn as you go? I got a camera and will be recording videos soon but I'd like to learn how to do some minimal editing somewhere down the road to enhance my content. Any help is appreciated.

Are they easy to use? I'm more interested in a way to learn how to use the various editing software that is out there and I heard you can take a course but I don't want to put too much money into that. I have a program called Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD but I don't know if its any good. I know nothing about Photoshop either. Its not a big deal, though.

I personally use Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas. Both are very good, but they take some time to learn and master. Check online for tutorials (just google Sony Vegas tutorials or After Effects tutorials), there are plenty of forums with free tutorials out there.

I have moved onto using Adobe Premier and Final Cut Pro recently. Its much more difficult than imovie, but you can do so much more with it. I like it a lot better. |
