What are all the box variants in NA? I can think of the extreme green bundle, star wars bundle, atomic purple bundle, and DK bundle. Is there a bundle with just a gold controller but a regular system? |

Controller Collecting Extraordinaire

There is a very old thread that goes over all the different bundles. Please take some time and do a search for it Brodieman, no need to recreate a new topic thread for this subject. But to answer your question, the "Gold" specific bundles in the US were these 2: one with 2 controllers and gold console while the other only had 1 controller with a regular system. ![]() ![]() Lithium's topic is a good place to start. Again, please do your homework http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/topic/7324681/1/#new Edited by ddr2nite, May 18 2012, 04:29 PM.

There was a few pokemon bundles too - but we should find that old thread about the consoles because my thread only has the 16 different ones without the variations |

I've had a look for the old variants thread but all the links I have found end in an Error Page. So I thought I would list all the information I've collated about USA console bundles and variations. Please note this list is still a work in progress and as I live in the UK there may be some variations I've yet to discover. Also none of the Canadian releases are included as I haven't got round to researching them yet. Standard Release (Control Deck) Launched in the US on 29th September 1996, the first release features just five games on the back: Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Cruis'n USA, Pilotwings 64, Super Mario 64 and Killer Instinct Gold. Sometime later a second variation was released, this version has 12 different games on the back, notably Starfox 64, Goldeneye 007 and Mario Kart 64 all along the top row. This version was used at least up until the release of Ocarina of Time, for future reference I will call this the second edition. I've not seen any 'standard' variations after this so I can only presume that the Atomic Purple bundles became the new standard consoles for 1999 and beyond. Spoiler: click to toggle Super Mario 64 Players Guide Bundle This is a special bundle exclusive to Wal*Mart and included a Super Mario 64 players guide inside. The only variation I've seen was the first standard release. Spoiler: click to toggle Gold Controller Edition This limted edition variation was exclusive to Toys 'R' Us, it featured a gold colour controller in place of the standard grey one. I have seen this variation with both the first and second edition standard console boxes. Spoiler: click to toggle Extreme Green Controller Edition This limited edition variation was also exclusive to Toys 'R' Us, similarly it featured an extreme green colour controller in place of the standard grey one. I have only seen this variation with the second edition standard box. Spoiler: click to toggle Bonus Bucks A special promotion launched on 1st September 1998 and valid until 31st March 1999. It allowed for a $10 off selected N64 software and hardware when you bought this console. It uses the second edition standard box. Spoiler: click to toggle Atomic Purple Controller Bundle This is the standard console bundled with an extra Atomic Purple colour controller. I presume it went on to replace the standard console out-right in the USA as there are a few variations available. The first edition lists what would have been new games, like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and 1080 Snowboarding among others. The second edition now showcases those games with their Game of the Year awards as well as new editions like Mario Golf, Donkey Kong 64 and Pokémon Snap. The third edition that I'm aware of lists some of the later titles like Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Banjo-Tooie and Paper Mario. Spoiler: click to toggle Star Wars Episode I: Racer Bundle This limited edition set was released to tie with the launch of the game and the Phantom Menance film back in May 1999. Spoiler: click to toggle Donkey Kong 64 Set This limited edition set was released at the end of November 1999 in time to capitalise on new Christmas purchases. Unlike the previous Star Wars bundle, this set had a Jungle Green colour console and controller and included the expansion pak which was reuiqred to play the game. Spoiler: click to toggle note: continued in new posted due to image limitations... Funtastic Series A series of 6 different transparent coloured consoles with matching controllers. These were first released on 6th March 2000, although the Jungle Green variant had previously been available with the DK64 Set, the other 5 colours are Fire Orange, Ice Blue, Grape Purple, Smoke Black and Watermelon Red. The differences are hard to spot but I'm aware of 2 different variations of each console. The first editions have 1080 Snowboarding, Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest and Star Wars Episode I: Racer featured on the back. The second editions replace those games with Ridge Racer 64, Pokémon Stadium and Mario Party 2 respectively. Spoiler: click to toggle Pokémon Stadium Battle Set This bundle contains the standard console and grey controller, with an extra Atomic Purple controller, transfer pak, the Pokémon Stadium game itself and a 'Trainer's Journal'. However this specific variant is very rare and I've only ever come across the one image, much more common is the version which also includes a holographic taining card as a bonus. Spoiler: click to toggle Pikachu Nintendo 64 This special edition N64 is wider than all other variants, it incorporates Pikachu into the design of the system and uses a blue and yellow colour scheme. The console comes with an unique matching controller with a branded Pokémon sticker on it. There is also a Pikachu Nintendo 64 Set exclusive to Toys 'R' Us stores. As well as the console and controller this bundle comes with the Hey You, Pikachu! game, microphone and VRU, and a bonus Pokémon watch. Spoiler: click to toggle Gold Control Deck This limited edition console was exclusive to Toys 'R' Us stores. It features a unique gold colour console and come with 2 matching gold controllers. The only variant I have come across has late games like Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Banjo-Tooie and Paper Mario on the back. This would place the release around late 2000 / early 2001. Spoiler: click to toggle

I think it would be cool to have the variants. Probably wouldn't bother with the Nintendo bucks one or the Mario guide one but the others would be nice. So oh goody yet another Pokemon thing I have to track down and cringe as I spend money on it On another note thank you so much for getting this together and doing the research dani! #200th post!!!!!!! |

Man there's a lot of consoles. Games take up enough room, no idea how you guys find room for all of the unique systems. Grats if you do though. It seems like Europe got some of the coolest bundles. They got that Banjo Kazooie one and that Goldeneye one as well. I'm guessing it's because Rare was headquartered out of the UK, but still... no love for us US guys

It's one of those cases where the grass is always greener on the otherside. Yeah the UK got a Goldeneye console bundle, but the US got a gold system!! And don't get me started on all the games and limited editions you guys got lolThere was a bundle of F-1 World Grand Prix exclusive to France and a bundle of F-1 World Grand Prix II exclusive to the UK. My favourite of all bundles would have to be this bad boy tho, exclusive to Scandinavia unfortunatley: ![]() |

Great job Danilochka! Awesome find on that Zelda bundle, didn't know about that one. Strange Nintendo would go through the trouble to produce a set like that and only test market it in Scandinavia? Ughh why?? Also didn't know Walmart had their hands on an exclusive deal with the SM64 guide throw-in, ridiculous though.. Pretty sure almost every individual who had purchased that set, wished it came with the game instead! Edited by TNT737373, May 21 2012, 11:22 AM.

I remember trying to count how many variants there were worldwide and it gave me a headache. For the 16 unique consoles there was another (at least) 40 variants. Over 50 boxed N64s would take up a LOT of space! That is why I decided to just stick to one of each unique variant |

Something that's very neat to me looking at all these variants is that Zelda special pak. I don't know if anyone noticed but on the right side there it says it includes a "Zelda-Pin" Anyone have that? Would be a nice neat piece. I don't have many boxed consoles (yet!) but I do have the Nintendo bucks one! I didn't know if that counted as a true unique variant since it just seems like it was a sticker put on top of the normal original box but maybe I was wrong. |
