Gold PS3 controller Might pique the interest of the general controller collectors here so I thought I'd share. Looks nice but I wish they would have let us in on whether it will be in stores, online only, special circumstances, etc. If it is regular controller price then I might seek it out. |

If they put out a gold PS3 set that is also compatible with PS2 games and I'll switch over from Microsoft immediately, lol. |

Only specific models of the old chunky PS3 have PS2 compatibility, why they removed this feature is beyond me. Definitely affects sales in a negative way. The PS4 better be able to cover all previous models, seems like they won't be able to afford a mistake like that in future competition with Microsoft. |

production cost. they had to cut it to be able to drop the price from 569$ to 399$. that's a huge gap an you have to find something to cut that Mr & Mrs everybody will probably never use. remembere that 5 years ago, the PS3 was the best/chepeast Blu-Ray player to buy all hands down for any Home Theater setup. those who bought it probably never connected it to the internet and never played a game. you'd be surprised by how much percentage the ps3 system is used for. the PS4 WILL NOT support ps2 nor ps1 and i'd surprised if it support ps3. Sony can be very stupid sometimes and if they go the online only mode, i wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt evenhave a blu-ray player at all. |

Augh what a shame, too bad companies value the quick cash over quality in product. If this is the future route, the feature of "backwards compatibility" will be eliminated all together, and past games will be available only to play through overpriced digital downloads. Take care of those used dust-collecting PS2's kids! |

to make new console, they need to make cash. so it's just a normal step. the quality wasnt dropped by removing the ps2 emulating chip, the PS3 is still a very strong cosole and will last a very long time, if treated properly, just like the ps2. |

I guess we'll agree to disagree, ha. I'm not bashing the console's gaming integrity or competition with Microsoft, it's a great console I love it. It bothers me though that they would design the console and promote it with PS2 capability, a strong feature, then later remove it in later models while still promoting the PS1 capability. Half-assing the whole concept of "backwards compatibility". And regardless of the next gaming system Sony manufacturers they will make a steep profit margin, I just can't believe a PS2 emulating chip/software could have cut costs anywhere over $30. |

Controller Collecting Extraordinaire
|
So I'm trying to get this thread back on topic... can someone please post where we can buy this controller? I saw an earlier link that goes to Amazon but it uses a stock picture so I'm not very confident and would hesitate to purchase from there. I haven't seen any of them pop up on EBay just yet... Is this gold PS3 controller one of those pre-sale things? I'm just looking for more "official" information. Update: looks like the release date is June 22 in the UK. http://realgamernewz.com/gold-ps3-dualshock-3-controller-images-and-u-k-release-details-revealed/ Pretty pricey, slightly over $75 and you'd have to import it from the UK. I've been searching online for info and I'll I'm seeing is that it is coming this month and may be Europe only. But I can't track anything down about where it will be available. Kinda frustrating. Looks like you see the same thing I'm seeing.

It's true. We go crazy for gold! If this is coming out in North America, I think the price would be $59.99 over here. North American prices are always lower than Europe so I doubt that it would sell for $75 here |

Yep that statements very true. We get absolutely shafted on everything over here. I bet you guys don't pay £1.35 a litre of petrol/gas Back on topic. I have no interest in the Gold PS3 controller. I personally think that PS3 controllers are very poor build quality. It seems like Sony tried to save a few pennies on using thinner plastic than what they used on the PS1 and PS2 controllers. |
