Probably going to run you $1,000-$1,500 for an opened / used copy in decent shape.

Don't let anyone's collection intimidate you. If you have a passion for it stick with it. Be patient and determined. Also from what you have said before you have a good collection if you are only missing 1 or 2 consoles.

Finngamer has a great collection BUT you have to remember that he got a lot of his N64 stuff waaaay before it got very expensive.

Sadly new collectors to N64 now have to pay a premium for the stuff they want as most of it is now in demand. Don't let that put you off though, there are still bargins to be had. :yeah:

This is something I've wanted to ask the forum before as I've never really been able to find found much info about it.

I know that each set is individually numbered and that there is a total of 1,000 but that's about it. Where exactly were these 1,000 sets sold? How could you get one? and how much were they? It would be great if we could get some answers to these questions.

People often call it an European exclusive but the Certificate of Authenticity is entirely in English, as is the Contents sticker on the back of the box. Surely if this was intented for other countries throughout Europe they would have included text translations too. This leads me to believe it's either a UK exclusive or perhaps UK and Scandinavia only.

I've tried looking through my old magazines to see if I can find any articles about the set but as yet I haven't found any information. That said however, I did come across a picture of the item, it was been given away as part of a christmas competition in GamesMaster (UK) Magazine. It wasn't being given away soley tho, it was just part of a big batch of stuff you would win, with no real mention of what it was.

So were all of them just given away as prizes perhaps? It seems unlikely because the biggest selling publication at the time was N64 Magazine, and they never had any menton of it, or competitions for it. I've yet to check the official magazine however, which could maybe hold some answers.

The Zelda Dungeon Wiki lists the game as originally costing £70.00 which would imply that it was made available for retail, but I don't know where they got this information from. I have seen some past auctions which show that the set originally came sealed but I've never seen it with a price sticker on, or with an accompanying receipt.

So if it was sold in shops in the UK was it exclusive to certain chains, for example GAME or Woolworths? If anybody does have any information about this set regarding how and where you could originally obtain it, can you please post it here as I would be fascinated to know.

Yeh I've seen 1 here on aus eBay an went for $1200 an I know who brought it Cus there is 1 person here that buys near ever rare n64 gear an sells it in his store on eBay an he sold it for $2200 he not a collector he is just knows how to make coin off every thing.im not a big fan of Zelda + I really don't get time for much playing these days cuz of work but 1 day I'll get it surly,I've been collecting for a good 5 years or so an the worst thing is you find something that you have been looking for a long time an you get out bidded by 50c or so,or don't have the coin there to buy it so you have to pass it up but that's the way it goes I spoz.

Give it time, sellers pop up occasionally. There was a guy on NA about 3 months ago who showed up and only wanted $800... I told him $700 firm and he found someone to pay $800 within a few days. It's a low priority thing for me too since I usually only do NTSC, but Zelda is Zelda.

There will be more out there, and some are still sealed even.

To my knowledge it was never sold in stores. Or if it was, it would have been just some isolated incidence, like a store keeper getting a hold of one and putting it on sale.

It was just a promotional item, to be used on competitions, or other ways deemed fit by the distributor in each country.

Finland had around half a dozen of these. I remember seeing one magazine competition with three of these as prizes, and a TV show with two of these as prizes. The official Finnish distributor also held a competition with one as a prize. In addition to these, I know at least one employee of the distributor, who had his own copy as well. So us tiny countries received less than 10 of these, with maybe 100-200 for each of UK, Germany and France? Just a guess. It's certainly possible that other employees of Nintendo skimmed their own copies off the top in those bigger countries as well, like the one guy here in Finland. :)

The print run of a 1000 is so small that it would not have been practical to print the certificate in every language. They probably didn't even know how they would distribute them around Europe when they made them, so all were printed in English. I got mine through eBay, from Denmark.

Thanks for the great info Finn Gamer and confirming it was indeed made available outside of the UK :yeah:

It would be great if we could use this thread to compile some more details on the set. I'll have another look through my old UK mags and scan what I can dig up. Perhaps some of our other European members could have a look through old magazines too and see if they can spot any competitions for it.
