Cleaning N64 carts; Any DIY guides/advice?

Thanks for all your advises guys! I've cleaned my Starcraft 64 PAL cart... Now starts every time (before the cleaning one time every four!)

I just use a pencil eraser over the contacts. It works wonders and clears pretty much all the grime.

Downside is that you need to open the cartridge to clean the contacts properly.

I just get a j-cloth, and make a slightly damp patch on it, then wrap it around a knife in such a way that the damp bit is showing. I then run this over the pins on both sides. I then re-wrap the j-cloth around the knife with only dry cloth showing, and repeat. Works really well, have been doing this for years and the pins look perfect. Games boot first time, always. One thing I've never cleaned is the cart slot. Not sure how I'd do that.
