I was talking to my brother earlier when i went round to see him to play a couple of retro games, and he was moaning about how he feels like Nintendo messed up some series when they moved to Disc games (Gamecube/WII) some series including Metroid and Star fox.

I myself like all Metroid games from the NES classic to the newest WII release 'Other M' and i enjoy playing all of them but if im completely honest i do favour for the old Scene Scrolling Metroid games compared to the First Person ones (Metroid Prime onwards) but it is not really something i thought about until he bought this subject up

So i was just wondering what your views are on this, Should Metroid gone first person or not?, Or like me do you simply not mind either

I'm okay with both, but I would love to see someone do a really good third person Metroid at some point in the future. Of course, I'd like to see it on the Wii since I have one and not on the WiiU, which I don't plan on picking up.

Yeah I prefered the gamecube ones as I hated the aiming with the Wii remote on metroid corruption and other M, as I said in my first post I like them both and metroid does work very nice in first person and I love the graphics, my favourite must be metroid prime 1 and 2 though :-) didn't really like gameplay in 3 and other M

I thought Corruption's gameplay was actually a huge improvement over Metroid Prime 1 on the Gamecube. Other M played OK but the story was a joke and the pixel hunting stuff was not cool. Personally, Corruption beat Other M for me.

Actually... Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission are not 1st person and i kinda think we'll see more side-scrolling Samus on a handheld one day
But i think it is only proper that they went 1st person on the home consoles - anything else would feel seriously out of date IMHO.
And Metroid Prime is the awesomest Cube game ever!

I don't usually like any first person game, regardless of the genre (Except for goldeneye on n64). I think there should at least be an option for 3rd person view on the newer metroid games.

I loved the Metroid Prime trilogy, and I think bringing Metrod in the first person was a brilliant move. Metroid was always about YOU becoming Samus and exploring these strange, terrifying alien worlds, so what better way to do that than to thrust yourself into the action headfirst?

Metroid Prime was by far my favourite GameCube game, and Corruption was definitely some of the most fun I've had playing Wii. Unlike some people I actually love the Wii FPS controls (Goldeneye Reloaded controls...*drool*) and I bought MP Trilogy full-price just for the pleasure of playing through the first two games with those controls.

Erm, I've... only played a bit of Super Metroid... and none of the others... I suppose it's plays into Nintendo's hands to have one of it's main franchises be a sort of FPS (the genre of the moment).

I love the Metroid Prime series, also playing Metroid Fusion through a gameboy player with that Hori SNES style controller is as good as it gets. Feels like Super Metroid. But Metroid Prime did the transformation to FPS exceptionally well, and overall I like the first Metroid Prime more than the 2D titles.

I don't enjoy the motion controls though, Corruption felt very awkward to me at times, still think the GameCube controller is superior to the Wii mote. Can't believe they took out the option for Corruption, oh well good game nonetheless.
