Odin's Sphere. It might be the most beautiful 2D game I've ever played. I don't really like the combat, but wow -- it's so beautiful, I almost don't even care what it plays like. It's like a moving painting. |

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Xbox 360) Only one game on my now playing list these days. In the past week I must have spent at least 15-20hrs playing it and now my total saved playtime is about 68hrs. It's an excellent game and I'm considering getting the Shivering Isles expansion as well. |

For the past month or so I've pretty much been playing Mario Kart Wii exclusively. I'm still not sure why I've gotten so much enjoyment from the game, considering how similar it is to the previous versions and that I never liked Mario Kart very much to begin with. I guess my tastes have changed over the years... |

Still playing Oblivion a lot. My most current save now has over 100 hours on it... I've also been playing a few other games: GTA IV - finding all the pigeons in the game before I get any further. 50 found so far, still 150 to go. Assasin's Creed - I only really have some flag collecting left to complete this game 100%. But there are quite a few to find. I dunno if I'll spend too much time on this. Orange Box - Playing through Half Life 2 to get the achievements I missed last time around. Crackdown - Two very annoying Secret Orbs left to find. Darn it. Lego Indiana Jones - It's not as good as Lego Star Wars but Mrs Alxbly likes it and co-op can be fun. |

I never should have gotten rid of that game. You are right, it's like a fluid painting that you play across. Stunning game, need to pick it up again. |

Some of those are really a friggin PAIN For example, the one in Episode Two called "Get Some Grub", where you have to kill EVERY SINGLE GRUB in the level. All 333 of them. Now I KNOW that I've checked everything at least THREE times before moving on. Every little hole, every single cave, every place where there might be hiding some more grubs. But finally, I only killed 330 of the 333 and I KNOW that I've looked everywhere possible, and yet still missed three. Oh, the frustration

Judging from that list, he's too busy playing decent games to bother with Smash or Mario Kart. Yes, I totally said it!! I'm playing Etrian Odyssey II. It corrects some faults from the first game, but adds a few new ones. |

Well that's the response I expected, though not from the person I expected. Though saying they aren't even decent games seems a bit harsh; if you can get past their flaws, they can be really enjoyable... especially if played with your pal Mop_it_up.

Sorry man, I'll get round to it eventually and I'll drop you a line about online as soon as I do. I guess I didn't find it that much fun after the first few hours so I don't have much desire to play it just now.
Nope. I didn't play or enjoy either of the previous Smash Brothers games very much and because of that I can't see myself being interested in this one. It's been out in the UK for a week and it costs between £35-£40. That's too much to pay for a game I'll probably not play very much. if I can get a secondhand copy for about £20 I might buy it, but that won't be for a while yet. It's not all negative on the Wii front, though. I picked up Okami today... that's a game I don't mind paying full price for.

GTA:SA(PS2) I've got about seven(roughly?) missions to go, and I've beat the main story line. I've played this game time and time again, but it just never gets old. THPS3(PS2) Just an old favorite... |

Nice one. I take it you're enjoying NFS: Most Wanted if you're that far in! It's a really good racing game and the best Need For Speed game in recent years. None of the sequels have been quite as good, IMO, but Carbon is also worth a look (although you might have problems finding a copy for the Gamecube). The "acting" in both Most Wanted and Carbon is terrible, though! Actually, the acting's been bad ever since Need For Speed Underground.

Okay, with only a little over 115 hours on the clock I finally finished the main quest in Oblivion a few days ago. Now I just have all the guild quests, other side quests, Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and assorted other stuff to complete. I'm pretty sure I could have it 100% complete in another 115 hours. But first I wanna finish GTA IV. And if I'm feeling really adventurous I might start playing Okami.

I just started the second disc of Blue Dragon. The game is so boring that its taken me a while. The end of the disc had a kind of cool dungeon with like five bosses in it. Of course none of the bosses were challenging at all, but oh well. The music is still good, except for the boss theme, which is probably the worst theme I've ever heard. It belongs in a Sonic Adventure game. I think Deep Purple or some band like that made it, actually...

I'm now thirty hours into FFXII, and I'm not sure if I love it or hate it. On one hand, it has by far the worst plot of any Final Fantasy game I've played. It's boring, predictable and overly political. I'm a sucker for cliched RPG plots (revenge, romance...the works) so the storyline is really doing nothing for me. Additionally, the characters are just awful. There is zero character development; thus I simply do not care about anything that happens in the game. On the other hand, the gameplay is awesome. So I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet. |

I sort of agree. I thought the gameplay was a mixed back. Gambits really needed to be available from the start -- most of them aren't available until end game, which makes no sense at all. There are some very cheap bosses too, but I don't think you've encountered any of them yet. The plot was intriguing, but very poorly done. All the story is contained in cut-scenes which are not frequent enough. The characters are not fleshed out at all, which is a pity because Ashe had the potential to be very interesting. |

I've been splitting time between MLB '06: The Show and The X-Files: Resist or Serve for PS2. I've got a question for anyone here: About a month ago I got a brand new 32" LCD TV and I'm curious just how the N64 will look played on it. I haven't hooked it up and tried it yet as it's kind of a pain to move the TV around and hook different stuff to it. Are there component cables for the N64, or would it even make a difference? Will the games come up in widescreen? Sorry if I should ask this elsewhere but I wouldn't have even known where to look. Thanks for any info. |

Most people seem to think N64 games usually look better on a CRT TV. The reason for this is that the N64's picture output is quite a low resolution and standard TV's don't show up the blurry textures and sharp polygons quite as much. I prefer playing my N64 on my LCD though; I prefer a larger screen for most games. There's no component cable for the N64 and the console can't output RGB without modification... see this guide on N64 Answers: http://s6.zetaboards.com/N64_Answers/topic/70651/1/ There are quite a few games that can display in widescreen though. You need to check each games display options to find out which ones have a widescreen option. Nintendo were pretty slow with widescreen... I can't think of any first party N64 games which have a widescreen option; it's even missing from a lot of Gamecube titles. But there are a few third party games with widescreen and a lot of Rare's games have widescreen options. From memory, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini and Banjo Tooie all definitely have widescreen. I'd need to check the rest. |

Thanks for the info, alxbly! I think I'm with you, I'd prefer the bigger screen regardless of whether the game is in widescreen. I don't think I'll worry too much about the way it'll look either, I'll be playing PS1 games on there and some of the PS2 games I've played so far don't really look all that good despite the fact I'm using a component cable. Nice LCD TVs really seem to show how inferior the source video is on some things. Glad to know that some of my favorite N64 games will be in widescreen though. Thanks again!

I've been playing quite a few games recently: A-Train HX (360) - This game got terrible reviews but I decided to buy it anyway because it looked quite similar to SimCity. Graphically it's terrible and there's no tutorial to guide you through the game but I think I could get into this game given a bit time. Basically, you build train tracks and develop cities around them, so it's kind of a cross between SimCity and Railroad Tycoon. I've already hit upon some problems that a tutorial would have fixed but I've not been put off it yet. Okami (Wii) - I've been enjoying the story so far. The Wii version seems to hold up so far, only a few problems with controls. I'd like to finish this so I hope that the few control problems are just because I'm not used to the movements that are expected. Call of Duty 2 (360) - I'd been playing through on the hardest difficulty level and ended up being completely stuck on one level. So I decided to swallow my pride and try it on an easier difficulty setting. I've finished the game now and I enjoyed it a lot... I'm now not sure what my favorite WWII shooter is; it used to be Medal of Honor Frontline but now it might be this. I can see why this game got a lot of hype when the 360 was launched. Forza Motorsport 2 (360) - I had this for ages, never played it. Now that I have it's all coming back to me... I really enjoyed Forza on the original Xbox and I think I'll enjoy this as much. Mario Kart Wii - I had a friend over and he thought MK Wii would be easy so I gave him a go. We both ended up playing it for an hour or so, with and without the wheel. We both prefer the wiimote/nunchuk setup to the wheel and we both got hammered online. My best placing was 2nd which means I must be getting better, lol. Ninja Gaiden 2 (360) - 2nd boss = very hard. Good game though; very violent, very gory and a lot of fun. PGR3 (360) - Trying to get silver medals for every race. No real problems so far. There's a lot of other games I've been playing but I'll leave them for another post, another time.

Nope, it's just you vs. the clock! Oh, and my ghost will be there too, but it won't chuck any items at you. In fact, it can't even run into you, it'll just go right through you! I haven't spent too much time in Time Trials so most of my records aren't that great compared to the world records. I'll see if I can find one for you that could be beat with just a little practice; you can also check my records by going to the Mario Kart channel, though I don't think you can view/race my ghosts unless I send one to you. For the purpose of Time Trials, one of these vehicles should be used: Light: Bullet Bike Middle: Mach Bike or Nitrocycle Heavy: Bowser Bike or Torpedo You know, I just had a thought. What would you say to playing me in a no-item race? Granted, it'd just be you vs. me, 1-on-1, mediator vs. janitor, so it might be kind of boring... Also, I forget to ask this earlier: what are your thoughts on Battle mode? Is it still too random? |

Send me a ghost then, Mop. I hardly know the courses in MK:Wii so that would be a good way of getting to know them without feeling total despair. Not tried battle mode yet but then there's still a whole lot of MKW that I haven't tried (I still haven't unlocked all the courses). Can you switch items off?
