Nintendo might be tight fisted but stores offer their own discounts on games. Retail price for Animal Crossing (without the mic) is £39.99 but I could get it online for £34.99. I seen it discounted in one store for £30 but I don't really want to pay more than £25 since it's essentially the same game I played on my Gamecube six years ago. I can wait. In general, I don't buy many games at full price any more... I'm quite happy to wait for them to drop in price and play something something else in the mean time. The only exceptions are games I'm really excited about (recent examples are Fable and Fallout). |

I rented Jumper: Griffin's Story. It's quite short but I gave up half way through. It's one of the most annoying and crappy games I've played. Serious suckage. I'm now playing Midnight Club LA and Soul Calibur 4. I have an urge to go back to Dead Space now.

Now playing: Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64) I'm at Dodongo's Cavern. I want to be at Dampe Grave challenge. Only Zoras Land, Jabu Jabu's Belly and the Temple of Time left until I can go where I need to be. Dead Space (PS3) Started a new game, this time with the intention of playing through the entire game with the plasma cutter (and bagging a trophy for doing so). I'm right at the end of the first level. Bioshock (Xbox 360) Got quite far now, I think I must be only two levels from the end. Currenly trying to track down Andrew Ryan in the Hephaestus level. Battalion Wars (Gamecube) Controls aside, this is actually alright. Need to play more of it to get used to the controls. |

I beat both de Blob (Wii) and Psychonauts (PS2) lately, both great and underrated games (although Psychonauts started becoming much more popular lately, probably because of it's release as an Xbox Original and the fact that it was supposedly free on some PC download game service last year). Now playing: Yoshi's Island DS (I got that at launch back in 2006, never got around to beating it though), Burnout Paradise (so addictive!), Mario Kart Wii (only 4 more Grand Prix to go; I had a sudden urge to beat this game) and still slowly playing through The Orange Box (almost done with Portal, on chapter 6 of HL2, have not started Episodes One and Two yet). |

Here is everything I have played this week: Battalion Wars II I've only played a few missions so the game hasn't thrown anything difficult or complex my way yet. Feels a bit strange to use the pointer for aiming a weapon in a third-person perspective game, but it works. The only thing I don't like is twisting the Nunchuk to roll. Mario Kart Wii Screw you guys, this game's awesome. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption I think I'm close to finishing this one, as there aren't really any unexplored areas left on the map and I've collected most of the energy cells. This game has a completely different feel than the previous two games; firstly, interacting with other humans just seems wrong in a Metroid game, especially since Samus never utters a word. The environments are far too mechanical, the planets don't have the same sense of life and ruined prosperity that the previous games' worlds had. It's also been pretty easy, and this makes me wonder... At the start, you're given the option of difficulty of normal or hard. In the previous games, the hard mode was unlocked after you beat it, but I'm left wondering if the normal mode is actually the easy mode, and there's some sort of "super hard" difficulty unlocked after you beat it. In any case, I should have chosen hard... Mercury Meltdown Revolution I'm not sure if this is really a "puzzle" game, as it's usually obvious what you need to do. Doing it is what can be troublesome. This is sort of like one of those little toys you'd get in a fast food kid's meal with the little metal ball that you have to maneuver through a maze by tilting it... only it, you know, won't bore you to tears. Actually completing levels isn't difficult, but doing it under the par time while collecting all of the bonuses scattered around the level and not losing a drop of mercury can prove quite the challenge. If you don't like the motion control you can use a Classic Controller, although it seems strange there's no Nunchuk support. Just don't try it with the Wii Wheel... I did and I failed. Hard. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door The more I played this, the more it just seemed... "meh". I think I may know why that is though... it's because this is the fourth Mario RPG I've played. Especially since it is the direct sequel to one of them, it recycles many of the same items, badges, enemies, and concepts from its predecessor. Although the battle system has been improved, I'm not sure which of the two games I like better. I'm inclined to think I'd choose the first Paper Mario simply because I played it first (and it is also an N64 game). |

I discovered something the other day. Mario Kart Wii is actually pretty good, as long as you switch the items to basic, or off altogether. The handeling annoyed me, but I think I'm adjusting to it. I was a snaker in Mario Kart DS, so the drifting in this game frustrated me. However, although the new driffting isn't as effective, it's a lot less tiring. There are still things that get on my nerves, but I think I can overlook them. As well as Mario Kart, I've also been playing Vice City Stories. Have you ever played a game, liked it, then gone a while (say, 6 months) without playing it, then gone back to play it again, only to find that it's better than you remembered it?

It is.
Yeah, basically, that's it. The Normal mode is easy mode; Veteran is normal. After beating the game you unlock Hyper, which is much more difficult.
I don't know how much you played this game but you probably didn't get very far (from what you said). Some of the later levels are definitely puzzles, and figuring out how to complete them is a big part of the challenge. The levels become much more difficult very quickly as well. |

If you believed that I'd have seen your friend code by now.
I'm up to the third "lab" (level hub) but yeah, I know how these games work, I expect to see much more challenging and puzzling levels with each lab that becomes available. |

I decided to try to stick to one game per platform and play it until I finish it. My normal play jumps from game to game, so hopefully this will help me cut down on the number of games I buy and start completing some of the games I own instead! Anyway, just now I'm playing: Gears of War (Xbox 360) I go this game with my 360 when I first bought it, so there's no excuse for me not to have completed it yet. I'm now on the last level, Act 5. The game is enjoyable but feels a bit slow at times... still good fun though. Will hopefully finish it in the next week or so. Dead Space (PS3) Still on my first run-through, but at least I've made it past level 3 this time. I'm going for the "One Gun" trophy so I'm playing through with only the plasma cutter. That actually makes things quite easy as you only have one gun to upgrade and then you can concentrate on your suit, stasis, etc. Floorcat: do you keep your upgraded suit and equipment once you've finished a playthrough or do you start from the beginning again? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) Oops. Haven't finish Dodongo's Cavern yet but I will. Now. Or maybe later. But definitely soon. |

I've been mostly playing DS games lately since I was on vacation this week (until today). So... I almost completed Super Mario Bros 3 (the GBA version) and Yoshi's Island DS (also ordered the GBA remake of Yoshi's Island on eBay), I played some N+ (the DS version) and started Chrono Trigger (didn't get far though). |

I've played the game the entire day now and I think it's pretty darn good. It isn't the best game ever made, but it's very solid and comes off as a very fresh action game. The rescue segments are very well done and the motion control detection (there's plenty in this game) are pretty good. Here's a brief run down on some things. 1. The storywriting is not top notch. It's a little bit like Dante's Peak crossed with The Rock... and add to that ridiculous odds and feats. You have to shut off your brain a little and enjoy the ride for what it is. 2. Voice acting is awful. Not only that, the lines are cheesy awful as well. Raymond Bryce keeps cursing all the way. You can't really take the writing seriously and this is what I think Reggie is saying when he talks about the bad audio department. However, this is also part of Disaster's charm. The lines are laughably entertaining and there's a ton of cutscenes and story elements to go through. It's entertaining as a whole. 3. The rescue segments are very, very well done. This is also very integral in advancing as you get SP for rescuing people. With the points, you can upgrade Ray's attributes so he gets better at surviving among other things. And the motions you do get read pretty well, so you will never have a terribly difficult time in the game doing the motions. 4. The 'Contact' segments where you shoot enemies in a on-rail shooting gallery is okay but a bit uneven. Sometimes, it's pretty difficult to shoot (though that's probably due to failing batteries on my remote). Other times, they throw in a boss segment here and the clues to beat the boss are not readily apparent. So, it's a little bit hit and miss. These segments allow you to get BP points to upgrade your weapons AND buy new weapons inbetween missions. There's an entire build tree of weapons so you know that buying one weapon can allow you to get a better weapon and satisfying the requisites needed can unlock bigger and badder weapons. Upgrades are solely to the weapon you bought the upgrade for. So if you buy an upgrade (e.g. longer ammo clip, more damage, etc.) for one of your hand guns, the upgrade doesn't apply to any other handgun you have. I appreciate this as it gives you quite a bit to think about before choosing the weapons you bring to the level. 5. Graphics are good, though they could be better. The Dramatic trailer are pre-rendered graphics and do not represent the actual cutscenes. BUT, they aren't that bad either. I would hesitate to say this is one of the prettiest Wii games out there, but it sure belongs somewhere in the upper tier of Wii graphics than the norm. 6. The soundtrack is by far one of its strongest section. It's exciting and it absolutely gets you going. 7. I don't know what the problem is people have with the driving segments. Of course, at first, it seems a little weird. Car contact really throws the car a bit more than it should, but it only takes a bit of play to figure out how they should be handled. Ease your way to the turn and for a neat turn, mostly lifting off the throttle should suffice. You have an E-brake option and the pedal brake option but I hardly ever use them. The pedal brake should be enough only when you get caught out in a surprise turn. 8. Granted I haven't finished the game, I feel that the game is a bit on the short side. Seems like the story is ramping up after a couple of levels. My bottom line is that Disaster: Day of Crisis pulls through as a very good effort and one that doesn't deserve the cold shoulder NoA gave it nor does it deserve the almost non-existent advertising in Europe and Japan. I think that even if the European version gets sent as is to the American market and some proper advertising, this is a game that will be quite one of those underground hits if not a moderate hit on its own merit. I wouldn't jump and say buy it though. My opinion of Wii games is that because motion controls aren't precise, controls that work for one player may not work for another. I'd say, rent if you can. See how the game likes your motions. Other than that, Disaster easily flies as an 8/10 for me. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good and the transition from one gameplay to another is fairly smooth. |

Zora's Domain ! @mop, Metroid Prime 3.: Loved that game, need to replay it again, possibly multiple times, the controls were perfect for me, and the atmosphere was brilliant. Loved playing with the sound up VERY high in a darkened room, sub woofer and good speakers elevates the Metroid games even further! Wondering if I should replay (re-re-re-replay in the case of MP1) the entire series, or just go into 3 again. Anyone think I should get Hunters, just for the story aspects of it? Heard mixed opinions on the game.... Same with Starfox Command, another I'd get just for story reasons. @mop: Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door I got so much out of that game, although yeah, maybe if it is your 4th Mario RPG, I could see the problem. I got bored pretty early on in Mario & Luigi Superstar, maybe I should give that another crack. And I recently downloaded the original Mario RPG, been too busy to play it, plus my Wii crapped itself.... ![]() But yes, Thousand Year Door, gave me 60 hours of just the main game and then up to 97 hours I think...dong everything else. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ROB64: D.J Cat's Wii is in the docking bay. I've only been playing N64 lately due to the above mentioned Wii little problem. Snowboard Kids 2 Want to hold a tournament for SBK2 (and 1) at our next Smash Bros tournament. So been trying to get my form up + just enjoying the game and familiarizing myself with it. Really enjoyable! The music and characters are great, and the inclusion of an expert mode was an excellent idea. If anyone has an ideas regarding the tournament, there is a discussion here: http://z7.invisionfree.com/SnowboWorld/index.php?showtopic=1053 Turok's: Finished 1 on Wednesday night, started 2 the other day. I reckon I should keep my Turok discussion to the Turok thread, 2 feels quite sluggish compared to 1. Very smooth. Ahhh, gotta go, might elaborate more later. |

Street Fighter IV In-game clock says I've already spent something like 150 hours playing. Finished all the Hard Trial Challenges yesterday, which netted me the most undervalued PSN Trophy in existence ("No Challenge Too Hard"). Definitely the hardest, most patience-testing video game-related feat I've ever accomplished in my entire life. Holy crap. Yes, it even beats out WipEout 64. Although... WipEout HD (which I've been tackling recently too) may even be... harder?!?? Should actually be studying for my master's exam.

Bought it. Beat it. Sold it. The controls were creative but they didn't work very well in execution; if I had the thumb strap maybe they'd have been better. There is also a lack of game modes, and the Final Fantasy characters were overpowered and felt out-of-place. Just my thoughts on the game. Yes they are. Especially the one for a bogey. Interesting. I remember you stating that Baby Luigi and Monty Mole were two of the worst characters in the game. What has changed since then? I've never played either Pikmin game before. The general conception seems to be that Pikmin 2 is the better game, so I might pick it up once it is re-released on Wii. |

I've just started digging into Henry Hatsworth just now, and WOW this is pretty fun... crazy game mechanic of mish-mashing puzzle & platformer genres. I berry berry much. From the title alone, I thought this would become a Prof. Layton wannabe... but that gets quickly dispelled once you even look at the cover art.*wonders what winning formula of genre mish-mash will come next... hoping for Guitar Dead Space: Dismemberment Live on Tour* Speaking of Guitar Hero... That would be waaaayyy sweet, as I've not played GH or RB with anyone as good or better than I since GHIII, when I was still "in training". (I'm sure my "expert" skills would pale in comparison to yours!) Unfortunately, I play on the PS3, and not the 360 (which I assume you're playing GH/RB on).

The bogey one is awesome. It's pretty hilarious.
A ton has changed, actually. Ever since a strange match in Toy Field where I pretty much killed everyone with Monty Mole, we began using him much more. Illuminous constantly gets tons of homers with him, which is annoying. Baby Luigi used to be used for weak base hits, but now he's used for things like doubles, fielding, and sometimes, homers. Also, I started somehow losing my awesome talent with Daisy and Noki, but I'm growing awesome with Peach and Toad. Yoshi's recently been pretty scary, getting homers almost nonstop. And somehow, I finally started getting base hits with Mario and Bowser still can't do much. He can field pretty awesome, though, but that's all he can really do for me. To me, Peach is possibly the best player in the game because of her awesome skills and her strength. (yeah, I can hit both sides greatly, like how I can hit inside with Pianta but not outside) |
