Was bouncing back and forth between Zelda BotW and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Then pretty much exclusively Mario Kart. Now I don't think I've played a game for a week! Ugh.

FInally beat Persona 5 tonight after 93 hours and several months. There were honestly a lot of parts I loved about it but just like Persona 3 & 4 there was a lot I didn't like about it and the amount of praise it got as a perfect jrpg in those first 2 months was pretty annoying. I know people rip on Tartarus in Persona 3 but at least it wasn't bogged down with stupid baby puzzles and padded out dialogue like the Castles in P5. It was just battling which was fine. The dungeons in Persona 5 are linear and way too long. After the first one it got very grating and I personally didn't like mementos a lot either. It makes me never want to play again then again 100 hour rpgs just aren't my thing I guess. I need to dive more into visual novel type stuff because the cutscenes and social links were the best part for me. I get that without the conflict and the fighting the relationships wouldn't develop the same way but still I'm just sick of battling.

And with that I've officially fallen out of modern gaming completly. I have no new consoles or a PC. If Mario Odyssey can't even get me interested in a Switch then modern gaming just clearly won't be cutting it for me for a long time. I feel like the only person who isn't excited for that game as a lifetime Mario fan. Not that I think it looks bad but Mario can't reinvent the wheel with every game like he used to and that stagnation is a harsh fact for any series that runs that long. I'm already loving the music though so there's that for me to look forward to.

Played some Spinal on the SNES version of Killer Instinct this morning. Sorta did it in preparation for Killer Instinct Gold which I'll be playing extensively in July. So the whole time I'm playing KI I'm thinking - what a shame that this game isn't going to be included in the SNES Classic Edition's lineup. Not that I believe it's a particularly good game or anything. It's just that I'm sure it would spark off a ton of nostalgia for a lot of folks given how big Killer Instinct was in the arcades and on the SNES back in the 90's.

ARMS, Last Resort and some multiplayer MK8+ with my daughter. And now a confession. The day has finally come. My son WHIPPED my in ARMS. Legit. No holding back. And then my daughter was way better than me in online MK*+ battle mode. The torch has been passed . . . .

I've just erased all my game data on F-Zero X (N64). Going to steadily own the game once again. Just beaten the Jack and Queen Cups on Novice. Will gradually work my way through again. Haven't fully completed this since back in the day so should be fun I used to enjoy this game a lot.

Put in an hour of online ARMS action last night; probably won 50% of my matches and slowing learning strategies, like punching as Ninjara is coming out of his jump-dash disappearing act. Very effective!

The better you get at it, the more enjoyable it gets.

And its so insanely pick up and play.

Like, I could be racing in a cup within a minute.

If I had the motivation/time/was a little less tired...💤

I've just started playing (4ish hours in) Darksiders 1 on the Wii U and i'm really enjoying it so far. I've played through half of the second one but gave up. Really enjoying the setting and story of this one.

Sorry to hear that :( I wouldn't necessarily write off Mario quite yet though - from what I've seen it looks incredibly creative and the first of it's kind since the Galaxy games, which were fantastic. I remember people being down on Breath of the wild before that arrived and look how that turned out. I think maybe Nintendo are in an especially creative mood at the moment!

It's little bit of everything here at the moment, since I sorta live at multiple places at the moment, because of work:

At home: playing Darksiders Warmaster on the WiiU,
At my girlfriends place: playing Zelda BOTW casually together,
At my "work home": playing Evolution Snowboarding on the Gamecube (although I doubt I'll ever finish it)
On the go: playing Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Edition

I'm still working on F Zero X. Not overly far from completion now. It has been tricky at times but very enjoyable. I'll comment more somewhere when (and if) I do beat it again. I'm sure I will. Otherwise I am an idiot for erasing my complete data file.

I am really keen to crack on with Perfect Dark again but I will only be doing this once I have completed F Zero X.

Need to get my game on. I have a window this evening. Let's do this. :n64:

I'm mostly comparing and contrasting Killer Instinct Gold on the N64 with its contemporary Samurai Shodown IV for the Neo Geo. The latter is a gorgeous game which I believe this review describes perfectly.

Quote:

While Samurai Shodown IV wasn't the last game in the series, it is considered by some fans to be the best, and with good reason. The weapon-based gameplay is refined after the experiments of the first three outings and roster of fighters is unique and varied; add in the "Slash" and "Bust" variants and you've quite a few combat options to master. All of the Samurai Shodown games boast excellent presentation but this entry truly benefits from the increased storage available on the Neo Geo at the time; smooth animation and plenty of detail in the backgrounds helps to elevate the game above many other 2D releases of the period. While it's easy to grumble about the proliferation of fighting games on SNK's platform, this franchise has always set itself apart thanks to its focus on swords and other weapons, so if you're sick of Street Fighter and can't stand another King of Fighters then this might be just the tonic you need.

Another reason for my interest in this monumental SNK fighting game franchise is because I recently discovered that Samurai Shodown V Special is going to be released on the PS4 in an uncensored form.

And it will also support online play! :w00t:

I headed into last night's Splatoon 2 session a proud 21-11 and on a roll, but got a huge slice of humble pie! A brutal stretch of 5 losses in a row before getting a W to end the night.

One remarkable thing about the Splatoons that I seem to have forgotten is how the competition evolves. Most players' skill improves dramatically over time, and certain weapons/strategies that are awesome eventually get countered and then neutralized. You have to make adjustments, which I think adds to the life of the game and the skill required to play it successfully (which, again, I did not last night, lol).

Just finished a storyline play through on GTA 5. Finished with 1.89 billion or better for each character. Been playing a lot of Golf on there. I have never cared for gold, but I find it somehow oddly addictive to play on there

Loving Darksiders on the Wii U, runs like a dog in places though but still really enjoyable. Once I have finished this one I'm going to start the 2nd again, I have a better understanding of the story and I think i'll enjoy it more.

Edit
So many bugs in this game, hard crashes and muted or lack of sounds in cut scenes really take you out of the experience. Real shame but still enjoying it.

Fair play - I've only played F-zero GX - is F-zero as good? I might have to buy it.

Just finished with Mario Sunshine and on to Goldeneye which believe it or not I've never played through. I was so into Nintendo style games back in the day that I ignored shooters like this. I'm on the second mission and am absolutely loving it - can't wait to play more. Also playing through Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast - loving this as well.

@andyk - yeah F-Zero X is a really good futuristic racer on the system. Better than Wipeout for me. Lots of good race tracks, vehicles, difficulty settings and the music is well fitting.

Enjoy Goldeneye! Best game on the system for me personally.

Hadn't turned my Wii U on in a while but I got to jonesing for some Super Smash Bros. Wii U so I fired it up this weekend. I was greeted with updates for both my Wii U and SSBWiiU. I wonder what the updates do as nothing was readily apparent when I played.

Been playing Mortal Kombat X(L) on the PS4 online a lot. I've had the game for a while but mostly just played when friends would come over. Surprisingly, as a 1-on-1 affair I find it far more enjoyable than Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U. Granted, SSBWiiU's 4-player is probably the best of all the Smash games so when multiple friends drop by that's what we gravitate towards.

BTW, while I was in Walmart today I saw that Mortal Kombat X is only 15 bucks or so. Believe me when I tell you, that's a heck of a deal because the game automatically updates to the newer XL iteration. You won't get all the XL characters for free but you do get all the gameplay updates plus a few extra goodies. Fifteen dollars is an incredible price for what's arguably one of the best fighting games available today. Oh and there's always plenty of people playing it online if you want to test your might. ;)
