We're obviously all collecting for N64 to some extent... and it seems there's a lot of people here who collect (for) any/all Nintendo consoles. But I thought it'd be nice to get a survey of what we all collect for (or even used to collect for), and what type of collecting we do (games, controllers, consoles, guides, accessories, swag, etc.). And (esp. for the N64), are you collecting for a CIB worldwide full-set, for games, consoles, controllers, and/or accessories? Or a pre-determined number/list of items? Tell all here! As for me, I've always collected primarily for games, specifically good/critically acclaimed games, or at least games I'd be interested in someday playing. Because, the theory is that I'd eventually get around to playing them. Someday. (But probably/realistically... never.) I could never handle having a loose game without its manual/box (even since childhood!), and I used to be of the mindset that any available guidebooks were like an in-depth manual that might be nice to have with the game. For the current gen, I usually opt to also pre-order "collector's" or "limited" editions of games/guides if they're available... which doesn't seem to amount to much since they're not very "limited" in most cases. But at least sometimes they come with some little (marginally useless) pre-order bonus trinket.Anyways, I'm still actively collecting for the following consoles:

I must say my collecting has seriously slowed down of late. Don't think ive picked up a game for a couple of months. I do also collect for the original Xbox, where I have well over 100 titles and I also collect for the 360. I guess this just grows as new games come out.

The original PlayStation is the only console I'm specifically collecting for as I want a complete collection eventually. But I am also buying PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Dreamcast and N64 games when I see good deals and even if the game is unappealing to me. |

I only collect for N64 and GameCube seeing as how they were my childhood consoles. I have four other systems however I just want to play the games on them, modern consoles I don't care about condition or organization.. ha. My definition of collecting is acquiring a game in which you intend to display to others and hold long-term as an investment.

I really only collect for N64. I have a couple handheld Nintendo games but it's really not a collection. Just a few games that I like. N64 will definitely be my biggest library at about 40 (maybe double if I learn Japanese). I just don't have the time or funds to collect for anything else at the moment. |

Collector of everything.
|
I mainly collect for the N64- currently focusing on (all) loose US games and controllers. Eventually I plan to expand my collection to include US manuals and boxes, domestic console variations, foreign games and manuals, foreign controllers, foreign consoles and boxes, and then misc./rare items (in that order, more or less). This is a long-term plan, of course. I also have a Game Boy Color and a Wii, and although I wouldn't mind adding a few more good titles to my collection, it's not that high of a priority for me. Recently I've been playing an old Atari 2600, and last night I won a five game lot on ebay for it (the beginning of a new collection ). I've been researching the more popular games for the Atari, and I'd like to add some of them to my collection, and possibly some of the notorious (though not necessarily "good") games as well.

I collect everything for these consoles (by everything, I mean games, systems, accessories, promo items, etc.) The numbers represent how many games I have for that system. Keep in mind that I ONLY collect boxed or complete games for cart based systems, and for disc based, black label and complete only. Nintendo NES - 230 Super Nintendo SNES - 138 Virtual Boy - 2 Nintendo 64 - 198 (including PAL / JAP Games) Nintendo Gamecube - 195 Nintendo Wii - 85 Game Boy - 11 Game Boy Pocket Game Boy Color - 14 Game Boy Advance - 76 Game Boy Advance SP Playstation 1 - 211 Playstation 2 - 693 Xbox Original - 311 Hyperscan - 1 (I only collect sealed Hyperscan items, so far I have a sealed system, sealed extra controller, and 1 sealed game) |

Yeah, I hadn't thought of it earlier, but I too have been kind of a stickler about making sure to have original releases of games, and not the re-releases (with re-designed player's choice/greatest hits/platinum hits packaging). Call me anal, but IMO they're such an eyesore! There's a rare exception here and there, where the re-release has extra content (usually DLC) not included with the original release. (e.g. Mafia II & Heavy Rain, on the PS3) |

Wow! (And how can you not love MKII's diversity?!)Me, I am just about the NES, the SNES and the N64 (though I have a few gamecube and Wii games). Not CIB either, though I hope to have most of my games in UGCs and with manuals eventually. Thinking the cart count is somewhere around a 1/10th of SicCoopers! Id have a LOT more if I only collected carts, and Id have a lot rarer stuff too. lol. Ive bought and sold Sculptor's Cut, Beast Wars, Bubble Bobble Part 2, Lufia II, etc... and I dont have any of those in my collection. The only reason I have so many is because I have been fortunate enough to buy a few different collections along the way: PS1 / PS2 collection that was all cib black label RPGs NES / SNES / Genesis / Sega CD / Master System collection, 99% was CIB NES / SNES / N64 / Game Boy / GBA / Gamecube / PS1 / PS2 / Xbox collection that was 99% CIB Genesis / Saturn collection that was 99% cib |

N64 collection completed 7/29/12
|
I have a full set for N64 NTSC-U loose carts, as well as all of the ones released in PAL that weren't released in NTSC-U. I'm going for a full set for GameCube NTSC-U (check the sig for progress). Although not a console collection, I have a full set for every variant of every Tony Hawk game across all systems, except for the Korean version of Tony Hawk 2 for the PC, and the Japanese Tony Hawk 2 for the GBA. All of my obscure ones are sealed (Tapwave Zodiac, NGage, Pocket PC CD, Australian THUG PC). As for all the other consoles, right now I'm looking to get all of the Must Haves across all systems. Then maybe I'll do a full PSX set or something. My mentality is, "If it's cheap, buy it for the collection. If it's a good game, buy it to play it. If it's rare, buy it at a good price." I could've worded that better, but it took me almost an hour to type this because I'm still at work, putting my phone down every few seconds. |

I have been collecting for about 5 years. I started with wanting to get a BUNCH of different consoles, and an even bigger BUNCH of different controllers. I mostly collect first party controllers, but a few decent 3rd party ones have made it in the collection. I have collected a LOT of games that I don't have the brain to sit still and play, so that's where the best part of my collection comes in. My girlfriend. She has actually taught me to be a better (more than just Mario games)gamer. Here's my current collection. (If my camera and phone didn't suck, I would take a good video of my gameroom.) * Nintendo Entertainment System (model 1, 2 and Famicom, Power Pad, Power Glove, both Zappers and ROB) * Super Nintendo Entertainment System (model 1, 2 and Super Famicom) * Nintendo 64 (all 9 American consoles and controllers, Orange Pikachu Edition w/ matching controller, Light Blue Picachu controller and the "Mario Kart" controller bundle, and the Glove controller) * Nintendo GameCube (Jet, Platinum and Indigo consoles w/ matching controllers, Spice console/controller, RE4 console/controller, Mario, Luigi, Wario and Red hat Club Nintendo controllers, ASCII keyboard, Megaman controller, RE4 chainsaw, Japanese white controller and a loose Indigo/Clear controller. * Nintendo Wii (White Wii, all 5 regular color controllers w/ matching nunchucks, Club Nintendo Gold Mario Kart wheel, Club Nintendo Gold Nunchuck, Club Nintendo Gold Classic Pro controller, New Kirby's Dream collection, Sealed Mario All-Stars and Sealed Skyward Sword w/ Gold controller bundle) * Nintendo Wii U (Deluxe Bundle) * Nintendo Game & Watch (3 reproduction keychains, the Club Nintendo Ball reproduction, and a DK vs system) * Nintendo GameBoy (Gray, Black and Red) * Nintendo GameBoy Pocket (Black) * Nintendo GameBoy Color (can't remember what colors, but I think 5 or 6 of them) * Nintendo GameBoy Advance (can't remember what colors, but I think 9 or 10 of them) * Nintendo GameBoy Advance SP (NES Edition, and the UK Mario Edition) * Nintendo GameBoy Micro (Silver) * Nintendo DS (Mario Kart Edition) * Nintendo DS Lite (Mario edition and Zelda Edition) * Nintendo DSi (Blue) * Nintendo DSi XL (Sealed Mario 25th Anniversary Edition) * Nintendo 3DS (Sealed Zelda Edition) * Nintendo Virtual Boy (w/ the complete US game library) * Sega Master System * Sega Genesis * Sega Saturn * Sega Dreamcast (White and Sports Edition w/ matching controllers and a handful of other colored controllers) * Sega GameGear * Sega Nomad * XBOX (Regular console with Duke controller, Black, Clear, Green and Blue controllers, All 3 Street Fighter 15 Anniversary controllers sealed) * XBOX 360 (Original White console w/ I can't remember how many controllers, I think 7 or ![]() * Playstation (model 1 and 2 w/ a handful of different colored controllers) * PS2 (White Slim model w/ an even bigger handful of different colored controllers, Shadow the Hedgehog controller, All 3 Street Fighter 15th Anniversary controllers sealed, All 3 Mortal Kombat Kontrollers sealed, RE4 Chainsaw, Licensed GLOVE controller, Rocket Slime controller and Onimusha Kitana controller) * PS3 (Slim 250 gig, White, Red, Blue, Black and Silver controllers, and a set of Move controllers) * Atari 800 * Atari 2600jr * Atari Jaguar * Philips CD-i (of course with Hotel Mario and the 2 AWEFULL Zelda games, I am still missing Zelda's Adventure) I'm sure I have missed a few things, but that's all from the top of my head. I might update the list later. Edited by corE, Nov 30 2012, 06:41 PM.

Nice topic! I have no set goals per say. But I am interested in having all my favorite N64 games, which I largely do now. There is still another 10 or 12 games out there I need to get for it. I wold one day like to get a Funtastic N64, and controller. I mainly just buy games for PS3 these days. I sometimes will pick up a DS title. I do not ever see myself buying anymore PS2 games as I never play it. I would however like to pick up some more Gamecube games, Gameboy games, or perhaps even PS1 stuff. I am by no means a true collector. I think I have around 130 games total for the few systems I have. I would love to have more, I just lack the funds. |

If you're serious about collecting, you really should consider to use a database to keep track of it all. with almost 2000 games i cant remember what i already own or not. |

Haha... there were a few instances where I ended up buying the same game twice... sometimes THREE times... because I forgot I already had it!! Thanks for filling me in on that game tracking feature of gamefaqs, stinger... definitely a new/handy addition to their site in the ~5 or so years since I've last logged in! (And I'm amazed I actually remembered my password!!) I remember once upon a time having everything entered into IGN's game-tracker thing they used to have, but stopped using it a while back, and I think they got rid of the feature soon afterwards. |
