I know this won't interest everyone but I have recently embarked on creating my own YouTube channel and just wanted to share exactly how easy it is to record gaming footage. I'm sure there are a fair few reasons to do this but I'm just doing it for a laugh since I love playing games and wanted to share the love. Some people may want to do it to get certain bits of footage caught on tape to prove a point or win a bet (?), or maybe even to have some footage for a music video or project they might be working on. Whatever the reason may be I figured out a way to do it pretty cheaply and just wanted to share the basic knowledge I have. I made a short video explaining exactly how I do it so feel free to watch it and maybe it'll inspire you to do something magical ![]() Enjoy, http://youtu.be/b3CXNEbiwTg Edited by Xwvp13, Jan 6 2013, 01:16 AM.

I wonder if this would be playable on computers, I have my consoles hooked up to the same screen as my PC and this would just make things easier. |

It seems easier and cheaper to just get a DVD recorder, hook the console up to that, and just record to a disc and then rip the disc on your PC. I've done this for any time I wanted to record console footage and Vegas makes it really easy to rip from DVDs and edit said footage. |

Both the iGrabber software and the Climax Digital hardware are Mac and PC compatible. I'm not sure about with a PC but with a Mac the hardware is just plug and play.
It's possible to make the playback on your computer monitor full screen and the frame rate is as good as on your tv so you could just play it on your computer, I just prefer having it on a larger screen because my laptop screen is smaller.
It's probably just as easy to do it this way but this way I can export the video at 1080p as the recording from the console is of a very high quality. I know that using the N64 the quality won't be great but I like to make it as high a quality as I can. And this way I can record it straight from the console to my laptop without having to waste a disc or time writing it to the disc. The way I do it is pretty cheap and you get the best video quality you can get. Using a DVD recorder would save on hard drive space but would take longer to do. |

Well with older consoles you're going to most likely get 480i recordings, if you're using RCA cables. So the iGrabber really isn't recording it at the highest quality, it's just upscaling it. I go ahead and upscale the recorded 480i to 1080p and color correct everything in Vegas, though. So a device like you're using wouldn't be much use to me, but to each their own. |

I have been put in my place Yeah you're right, it is just upscaling it but I've kind of gotten used to using it now and it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
