And it's started people. Brief article about how Sony are looking at locking discs to certain consoles so that you can't resell the game as it is locked to your console. Idiots IMO

If Sony does indeed implement this technology then I'm pretty much done with them. The whole Idea is as insane as suggesting you can never sell your car or your house once you've purchased them.

So why bother producing the physical copy at all?

Presumably hardware linked exclusively and permanently to your gamer ID will follow...

Yeah this all sucks big time. I really hope Microsoft don't follow suit on this one. Just goes to show how greedy these big companies are. Don't they make enough already??

I guess when we look at it tho. We are in there hands and they do what they want. I can tell you that if they implement this people will still buy games. I really wish if they do bring this out that people will bury Sony for there idiotic ideas.

oh and I bet hackers will go harder than before on Sony device. anything created by man can be defeated by man. Sony just didnt understand that one yet.

i seriously question the legality of this... seems to me that it would probably run foul of consumer law in a number of countries.

Well, if Sony do try and pull this out of the bag for the PS4 I would never buy one and it is as simple as that. I am not a fan of the EU but I am sure that the action of Sony's patent would not be legal within the EU. I knew families that would only be able to afford pre-owned games. When consoles become cheap enough one console normally assumes the role of the budget buy. In my town XBOX 360 fulfills this role with lots of game for under fiver. The impact this would have sales in the later stages of the consoles life would huge. I know one day in future when physical copies do not exist they will be able to force this stuff down our throats but when physical media exists this will not go down well in the press or with the public, which may cause this to never happen. I hope...

This is why the PS3/360/Wii gen of consoles is my last one. I've been hearing about this idea for months and I just am not on board with it. I'll happily purchase/collect/play games from the last few gens that I missed out on before and ride off into the sunset.

I have heard people say that when you buy a game disc, you don't actually own the game, but you own a license to play the game.

I am with the rest of you, on this. I think it's stupid, and I will more than likely NOT buy these new systems.

I HATE DLC. It would make sense if they cut out the cost of plastic for the disc and case, and the cost of the artwork and manual (even though manuals are becoming laughable now), and sell the games for a cheaper price, but they don't. They sell a code for $60.

And these companies wonder why there are more and more pirates out there.
