A discussion on the Gamefaqs' Perfect Dark forum about the hardest difficulty prompted me to wonder about playing games on the easiest difficulty; Perfect Dark is one of the few games I've played on easy, as I wanted to see how different it was to the the other skill levels. Most games don't have any real differences, except for less enemies, or (more commonly) the enemies are less accurate and do less damage to you per shot. But PD has less objectives so was worth trying, the same with Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough. Aside from those three games, I can't think of any I've played on easy, on any machine. Not because I'm such a skilled player (I'm not), of course, but because I always start on medium difficulty when starting a game for the first time, and if I like the game and replay it then I'll try it on a higher difficulty if I want more of a challenge (I remember feeling so disappointed that Project: Snowblind had no harder difficulty, as real shame as it's a good game but too easy). So are there any games on any system that give you a special reason for playing on the easy(-ist) skill level? Such as unlockables that can only be unlocked in easy, or different storylines or level topography according to the skill level, etc? |

I have to play the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection (PS3) on easy....it's ridiculously hard and I'm a long time MK fan. |

I have to admit as an NES kid I do not appreciate having to choose how hard the game is...its your game, you made it, figure out how hard it should be !Kidding aside, I LOVE playing Star Soldier 64 on easy. The whole key to the game on any difficulty level is maintaining your weapon at its highest power level, bc those weapons rock! We are talking maximum destruction and carnage. My favorite weapon when maxed out I call the rake. Getting and keeping the rake on easy is well easy. So when I'm in the mood to blowup some baddies, SS64 on easy is quite fun. (I have beaten the game on Normal and that is the setting i'd use when I want to have an intense challenge. Hard is to me insanely hard). |

It may come as a shock to some hardcore gamers, but I play most games on easy for the first play through. If the game is 100+ hours to complete, I often only play on easy as I feel that time is challenege enough. On the ps2 I used a codebreaker to flat out cheat on some playthroughs, such as Snake Eater. Some may think that zaps the fun out of it, but it is still one of my favorite games ![]() Games that are 10-20 hours to complete I typically play through on normal\hard after some practice on easy. I always prided myself on beating the initial Hitman trilogy on the hardest settings. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a challenege, but frustration leads me to anger.... And mangled controllers.

Maybe you should just keep playing games on easy then stinger. We wouldn't want you wasting money on new controllers every time you play a game. I tend to just select normal mode. Some games on Hard are just stupidly hard and not fun IMO. I like a challenge when playing a video game but I don't like to get dominated. That just usually makes me angry and I don't feel like playing anymore. So Normal mode for me. For some sports games I'll usually go through the difficulty levels until I feel comfortable when playing on that level and winning quite consistently. I then move up 1 for more of a challenge. |

You know it is funny, I did not develop that habit until the PS2. I never officially broke a controller, but I twisted both of them to the point of stripping screws I broke that habit on the PS3 though. The controllers were just to gosh darn expensive to treat that way. I will admit to biting mine once though. When my 522 kill streak without a death came to an end on Battlefield 3, I bit it for about a half of a second. I can still faintly see where my canines made contact Like I was saying though, I almost always start with easy and work my way up. Some games just cross a line in difficulty to me that make them not fun anymore. RE5 for instance on the highest difficulty. Uncharted as well. |
