Hi Guys--

Lately, I've been very curious about unreleased N64 games (there are more than a few!).

I am hoping we can build our own database that list unreleased games with accompanying gameplay videos (preferred) or screen shots. I am also hoping to recruit your help in doing this; collaboration is better, right?

This first post will containing the running list, updated for subsequent posts made (just like the Game-Off). I may move the videos and pics to the first post for efficiency, but I will include a "Posted By" credit for the initial poster.

A few conditions:
1. Please select 1 video per game (or 1 series of videos per game)
2. Please try to find a quality video of some length, not the first one or a really short one.
3. Please no betas of released N64 games (maybe another thread at another time)

Layout courtesy of floorcat!

Many a forumer dreams of 12 tales, Yogurt!

@The Red Shadow: Thanks! Nice additions. Not hard to see why Carnival didn't see the light of day. That Jest video is short, but it features so many live action shots that it is fine by me.

I've read that Dragon Quest/Warrior VII was initially planned for the 64DD but obviously it never happened.

Updated first post to link to member glennplant's great N64 Beta Project reviews of Robotech: Crystal Dreams and Wildwaters Extreme Kayak. In doing so, I broke my own rule about one video per game, but both Waterwaters vids are by forum members, so exception made.

Thanks, Stinger!

@Franklint: Nice, I'll be sure to add these. I do have a printout of Nesworld's 250+ list...makes the above quite meager. We'll build ours slowly and focus on games with decent video clips. Great to have you around, btw!

I will be adding Kirby Bowl 64 and Kirby's Air Ride 64 soon. Some sources treat it as one game, but for reasons I'll explain, i plan to list them separately (as at least one other source has).

EDIT 1: As the above 15-sec. video shows, Kirby's Air Ride 64 looked awesome (even if the N64 did not lack for racers).

EDIT 2: A video showing Kirby Bowl 64 at the specified times has been added. It is clearly NOT a racing game and looks a heck of a lot more like the SNES Kirby's Dream Course (a/k/a Kirby Bowl in Japan) than Kirby's Air Ride 64. I think KB64 may have later been folded into KAR 64 as a different mode of play.

A few updates:

1. Viewpoint 2064 has been added. Holy Zaxxon, I WANT THIS GAME!! A shooter, both isometric and on-rails. This sequel to the arcade shooter Viewpoint clearly has great visuals (and every review I read about it said the same). It was shown off at Nintendo show in August of 1999 as a final version, and at that time, it was announced for release in November of 1999. In fact, this game was SOOO close to release that its price had actually been set in advertisements for the game (7,800Y or about $80 USD!!). Sammy, how can we ever forgive you???

If I were really good at making youtube videos about unreleased games, had an excellent presentation style and had a growing channel following, I would so launch a campaign to try to get this released/leaked. But, alas, I am not . . . if only there were someone here like that . . . :D

2. Glennplant's excellent Mini Racers/Tamiya Racing 64 review has been added here. Keep up the great work, glennplant!

3. Echo Delta vids have been updated. About 20 mins of game play added. It is a Japanese strategy game, so it probably won't cause to run out and buy an EverDrive64, but definitely an improvement over the last video. Gameplay reportedly has to do with ocean exploration and raising a sunken ship.

Five games added:

1. Animal Leader: Apparently later became the GameCube title “Cubivore”

2. O.D.T. (Or Die Trying): 3D Platformer that did gain its release on the PS1 and the PC. This Daily Motion video will have to be resized. Click on title, not picture to watch (that's my work-around), lol.

3. Frogger 2: Hooray, sequel to an arcade classic.

4. Jungle Emperor: Just a quick peek at a cancelled game developed by Shigeru Miyamoto

5. Survivor: Day One: Oh this one looked great (!).

Thanks, guys! Glad you are enjoying this thread. There are a few more out there to add to be sure.

Please note that I "fixed" the O.D.T. link by posting a static picture and placing the link in the title. (Click on ODT to watch). And give it a few seconds for Daily Motion to start the video.

@Boomdiers: Hey, I think that version is for the PC or PS1. That YouTuber has many ODT vids, one of which he identifies as being on the N64 (but its not that one). Thanks for posting though, motivated me to "fix" the ODT link!

ONE MORE UPDATE: Jungle Emperor's title was apparently "Kimba: Emperor of the Jungle". . . looks like they were angling for a Lion King installment for the N64.

THEY LIED TO US!!!!!!!

Harrier 2001. I got a kick out of this Nintendo Power Poster that came in my Nintendo Power (Star Wars Episode 1 Racer cover)

Posted Image

There is a long and sorted history for Harrier DD, then Harrier 2000, then Harrier 2001, but it just never happened. Although it must have been close to production, no video footage could be located by me.

Rev Limit. This one hurts this racer fan a little more. Rev Limit ad inside of the manual for Royal St. Andrews Golf Course:

Posted Image

There is but a single 6-second video clip of this racer's footage, which I have posted above. As salt in the wounds, Seta published one of my favorite racers of all time: F1: Built to Win for the NES. Could have been sweet.

Thanks, guys, glad you are enjoying this one.

Two more videos for today, both eventually re-tooled and released on the GameCube:

1. Eternal Darkness. Looks like it could have been great. Now why didn't Simon Belmont ever think of using a torch to fend off pesky skeletons?

2. Resident Evil Zero. Informative video by AydanWatkins.

Thanks Red, nice finds!

I had really wanted to find the Looney Tunes racer, so I am glad you found it! The speed of the game appears to be geared for the younger audience, eh?

I think I may have seen a longer Ultra Combat video somewhere, but it was a DD version. I may update and replace it I find it.

Freak Boy looks like one we were better off without, lol.

Thanks again, Red!

Chris Seavor of RARE tweeted about a cancelled :n64: title I had not heard of: Pro Am 64.

NES fans may recall that RARE developed RC Pro-Am and the now pricey RC Pro-Am 2.

That is some list of upcoming games! Seems the N64 missed out on quite a few.

Thanks for posting, Vinyl. I will update the first post accordingly.

So what I learned is that Twelve Tales was NOT an unreleased BFD sequel, but rather an early build that evolved into BFD. One wonders if there is a playable prototype cart out there with a playable and near final build of this first (and conceptually different) Conker's game....

Forgive me if I'm repeating myself, but I'd add that there is a 1/2 page advertisement for Rev Limit on the backpage of the St. Andrew's Golf manual. It had to be close to finished....makes you wonder if it was just a cost/benefit analysis of paying for cart/box/instruction manufacturing versus anticipated sales.

@FossilCell: They vary. Some are certainly betas (like 12 Tales). Some appear to be 95% complete, like Viewpoint 2000, and some I'm betting were 100% finished, like Rev Limit, which was advertised in game manuals for games by the same developer.

@Cabanon: What an interesting list! I started looking at the unfamiliar names

BattleSport II--Eventually the concept was changed and morphed into Battletanx

Blade and Barrel--Or Ultra Combat (we have a short video clip posted). A helicopter shooter by Kemco that was cancelled, but may have been used to create Knife Edge: Nose Gunner. The former was an arena shooter, the latter was on-rails.
