A kid only wants to spend so much time with his parents. I feel like home-school accelerates the "teenage angst" phase to happen earlier like at 14-15 where the last thing you wanna do is be at home. So yeah I agree with Goo if your gonna go the route of homeschooling I'd try to enlist my child in as many extracurricular hobbies as possible to prevent them from becoming attention hungry or angst fueled. Maybe I'm jaded but I used to be close friends with a girl that was home-schooled and she wan absolute mess.. lol Was such an attention vampire, ugh bled me dry, still recovering haha. So my school experience? Not that cool, lol. Elementary school and middle school was freakin' awesome for me, good friends no cliques of people just fun all around. High school came and it was a pretty mediocre time. There were a ton of cliques there (goths, band kids, jocks, hipsters, nerds, etc.) and it kinda sucked. .. Really prevented you from meeting a lot of people to be honest, however I still made some great friends with kids who refused to be a part of any of that bull. The advanced classed I took were awful, very difficult and time consuming and while I passed them all, none of it paid off in college. The local state college I wanted to attend only accepted 2 out of dozen college level classes I took. Killed me when I found out. Currently at a community college saving money and working hard, living as part of The Matrix. Just a good citizen paying taxes and giving back to the community. ha Calculus classes are chewing my up at the moment, it's my last class til graduation too. Praying to baby jesus that I can pass this class it is incredibly hard for me.

Nice to see stories still rolling in. Socializing is certainly important, and I am all for it. I am just a huge opponent of our current school system and its' teachings these day. IMO they do a piss poor job, and am much more confident in my wife and I having the ability to educate and raise her. Many in our church home school as well. We also do not vaccinate, so it isn't an option anyhow. |

I coach gymnastics, tumbling and cheer and have seen all kinds of kids. By far the weirdest most frustrating class to coach is the homeschool class. They have no idea how to socialize and I spend the majority of the class trying to keep them away from each other and telling them to stop fighting with each other. Also we cant play any games because they have no idea how to lose without crying like little I have a lot of patience and am very good with kids but the homeschooled kids are the most annoying, frustrating, pains in my Edited by CoachLuke22, Apr 11 2013, 10:58 AM.

Oh I don't doubt it. Most people seem to go about it in the wrong way. I don't think it is for everybody or every child. Can't vouch for their kids, just my own.

Wow, that sounds frustrating Luke. I really don't think I was like that, obviously I was an awkward kid when I was younger but I think that is mostly because I'm so incredibly introverted. I almost always got along well with everyone. Transitioning to public school for eighth grade was basically no problem though. Once I found my group of friends I socialized just fine. Although like TNT said I think I did go through my teenage angst sooner than most but I think I also got over it quicker and learned my place. I really just don't agree with how overly secular and pc public schools are. I would much rather learn in a Christian environment that grows my spirituality as well as my education. And I think that's a trend I've noticed, almost all homeschoolers are white Christians. Not to be stereotypical but it's true and I'm really not sure why.

I think it all depends on the parenting. I feel like I could do a good job homeschooling. Some people are just not cut out for it. |

To tell you the truth, i absolutley hate school. It was the place were most of the torture in my life happened.Well this might take awhile but here it isSpecial Needs Preschool 2003-2004=Well,since i didn't talk at the time, my parents sent me to a special needs preschool called Taylor Elementary.Around mid 2003,i started talking and it was starting to become clear that i could go to a regular preschool.I really don't remember much of this school, except that on the first day, i got put in a different classroom from my twin bro Josh.I remember for some reason i knew the way to his classroom and i went there and they said for me to go back to my class.I was in the hallway and my teacher yelled at me.also i threw up in the car because i ate marshmallows and thats the reason why i hate them to this day.In 2004, i switched to regular preschool at 3Cs 3Cs Preschool 2004-May of 2005=Well since i spent 2 years in special needs pre-k, i only had to do a year here and i remember alot of it and one of them was that it was connected to a church that had a bell tower that scared the out of me.I even had a nightmare about it once. There are some stories, like i used to like dressing like a girl(but the teacher yelled at me so i stopped doing that) and that it was kinda lonely. In 2005, i graduatedMonfort Heights Elementary School 2005-2006=I remember this was my best year of school i ever had I remember it being very carefree,I rode the bus and it was a 25 Minute ride andi remember just looking at the trees and being carefree.I do remember it being my first encounter with bullies(which were on the bus home) and it was a good year because my mom worked full time and in the morning my Grandpa and Grandma babysat me from 8 to 11 am. I had alot of fun that year and it really wasn't bad.St. James White Oak August 23rd,2006 to June 3rd,2011=At first this school was pretty good.1st Grade was one of my favorite years there. But once 2nd Grade came around..it turned horrific. My 2nd Grade Teacher was one of the most meanest you'd ever meet and that was the age of snitches.I still hold a grudge again my 2nd Grade Teacher to this day.And at the last day of school, i really don't remember why, but she put me in the hallway for 30 minutes and i was sitting there bawling my eyes out and all of the teachers were looking at me(even the 4th Grade ones) and having a face and then after 30 Minutes, she let me in again only that i MISSED the Ice Cream and the movie was already halfway through.3rd Grade was a little better, that when i had my now i don't do it anymore genius reading skills( i read about 10 books a week) but it was the start of my bullying there.4th Grade was alright except that i had a nice yet VERY Strict teacher(she was so strict she ended makin me run of the room crying once).5th Grade is a VERY long story, but lets just put it that my only friend was my HOMEROOM teacher(she was one of the most nicest you would ever meet) and it wasn't that good of a year.St. John The Baptist Dry Ridge August 29th,2011 to March 7th,2012=Oh Boy, this will take about 40 Sentences to explain. They promised us aton of stuff but it never happened. When i first started there it was a ok school. But once November rolled around..things took a turn for the wrse.It started to even become unbearable just to attend. The reason why i left is a VERY long story. But i'll shorten it to 3 sentences. The principal severly verbally abused me(screamed in my face or 5 minutes straight and wouldn't stop until i started crying like crazy.I ended up going to the pysch ward becaus ei thought of killing myself.Right now we are in the process of suing them I'll tell te rest later Edited by NintendoLuke99, May 27 2013, 08:32 PM.

You have been through a lot for a young man, Luke. Thank you for sharing what you have so far. It is evident that autism creates some difficult challenges that a lot of folks (including educators) don't know how to handle. The way you talk about being treated by those who are in power over you frustrates me to hear. |

Yeah..Everyone says that school is so easy and its a breeze but in reality its were most of the trauma in your life happens. It really me off when people say that to you.But it is a good learning experience so that if i ever get married and have kids that they don't go through the same thing you did.Thats one of the positives

I was so quiet my first two years of high school (NJ) that on the last day of school, some teachers asked me to say something because they've never heard my voice before. My next two years of high school I was mischeveous. I urinated in people's lockers/backpacks (if they would do something to deserve it. I'm a pacifist), I used to carry tampons and fake blood on me, I'd cover my shirt and mouth with fake blood as an excuse to get the hot nurse to get close to me, I did a lot of stupid stuff. In college I would go to a single class for five hours and head home. There were no dorms and everyone had children older than me. It was a college for people wanting to continue college. Guess that makes me either an idiot or a genius, seeing as I graduated with a four-year Bachelors Degree in just under 2.5 years. |

Well now continuing my story,We tried online school but didn't work at all. Then in January,i went to a new school for people with autism and its the 2nd worst school I've ever been to. The teachers are mean and overbearing,my classmate is the most annoying you'd ever met in your life, and a lot of promises were made to us,but it never happened. I think we will leave the school and we are in the process of finding another one.And we are on summer break now. Conclusion:I absolutely hate school, but i do hope that high school is a lot better |

I just want to add a small tidbit. To all you folks who are STILL in high school: You know how folks tell you that you will miss it, and you think "yeah, right"? Well I said the same thing, and WOW were they right. The older I get, the more I love thinking back to those days

I definitely miss some aspects of high school, like old friends, a few teachers and some random goofy memories.

Your right on that one Stinger. I do the same thing at times. Think about how easy I had it when I was in high school. To have those days back would be fantastic.
