Would you change the country you grew up in?

So say if your family including girlfriend, boyfriends, wife, husband, children etc remained the same, would you have preferred to have grown up and live in a different country to your homeland?

Ill start by saying I would have preferred to grow up in the US or Canada. Why? Well I've always envied the lifestyle you guys have over there. Holidays for example, to have a good holiday with nice weather you don't even need to leave the country.

You get so much more for your money when buying property, most houses are detached so you dont have to listen to tour neighbour running a marathon on there stairs, bigger gardens front and back and not some poxy one where you can spit from the back door and still hit the back fence. Generally bigger rooms for more game storage of course.

There is also so much more cooler stuff you get over there, bigger and better events. Yes I'm also jealous we didn't get the Nintendo World Championships ^_^ The snacks and drinks are also much nicer, I'm sure BDR is getting sick of my Lemonheads requests. That's right BDR, you are now officially my Lemonheads dealer  Even sports are generally better, I'd take baseball over cricket and basketball over darts any day. Yes I said darts! With this said, I'd still follow soccer over American Football. Sorry guys, I just don't get it :D

Anyway, that's all I can think of right now as its late and I'm running outta steam. Ill add more tomorrow once my hands have also stopped cramping from typing on this phone for so long.

Interesting question...
On the one hand i've always felt more at home in England than here in the Low Countries so that would actually be a good and sensible choice.
But if i could choose any nation, i'd have to say Japan.
I've always been fascinated by that country and the culture, ever since i was a young kid in the early Seventies.
Not sure if i would actually enjoy living there so if it doesn't work out, i will move on to Indonesia and end my days as a beach bum on Bali :smokin:

Oooh, interesting topic, clarky!! :yeah:

I've got a short list.

The one thing I can't stand about the US is the health"care" system. A system like that of anywhere else in the world would be better than what we've got. I would trade most any other facet of my quality of life in exchange for a better system.

But that's it.

...

Well... if I'd HAVE to have another thing I'd like to change, it would be the removal of a certain company from the face of not only our country, but this entire planet.

I don't think I would have had it any other way. The only thing right now that i don't like about living in Australia is the cost of living. House prices, clothing, video games etc etc all cost more than what they do in good old US of A.

I would like to live there for a few years in the future just to have that experience. But I would always want to go home to Australia. I've done some traveling to other countries and I get home sick real quick.

I love my country and enjoyed growing up here. I don't really enjoy living in big cities and enjoy living in smaller towns. Having a yard and being surrounded by the outdoors is something that I love and wouldn't change for the world.

And as far as soccer goes clarky, im not real keen. I mean how can you enjoy watching a game where there is the possibility of no score??

Definitely, while Germany sure is a nice country to live in, it basicly looks the same no matter where you go.
The USA on the other hand has so much more completely different landscapes ... oh and the ocean ofc. They also have Taco Bell and gold N64's and you can drive a car without spending $8 per gallon.

In conclusion if I lived in the USA I would drive around in my car all day long searching for gold N64's while eating some Tacos. :P

I've always liked living in the US. I wouldnt want to have grown up anywhere else in the world. That being said, I wouldnt mind living somewhere else now. Like somewhere that likes soccer more than football...which is pretty much every where else in the world.

I do love the gun laws in the US though, and especially here in Texas :bullet:

Great topic!

Floorcat, I agree about monsanto!

Anyhow, as messed uo as the US can be, I wouldn't have it any other way. Though many of our freedoms are being stipped, I would not trade for the ones we have.

I would love to visit many countries, but would only want to live here :)

I just read about Monsanto, they've spent more time in court fighting people than they have actually doing what the business was designed to do by the sounds of it.

Obviously a big player and can afford it considering there total assets are over 19 Billion dollars.

Ive had the privilege to grow up in two countries, i was born in New Zealand and lived here till i was 13, then my parents decided they wanted to move back to the UK, so i lived there till i was 19 and then moved back to NZ, i did enjoy my time in the UK, but you know what they say, there is no place like home, i feel it would have been the same for me wherever we had moved to, there are places all over the world that i would love to visit, and will visit at some time, but i will always come home to NZ. :yeah:

I'm in Scotland and to be honest wouldn't swap it for anywhere else.

We could do with a bit less rain and a few more warmer, sunny days

but I wouldn't move anywhere else.

We can walk around the countryside without getting eaten, bitten or stung by some deadly beasties (well there are midges if you wander into the wrong areas) :)

and very few people run around with guns. :D

I'm gonna weigh in by saying that while I'd love to visit many other countries (in particular: Japan, Italy and Australia), I'm quite content with having lived here in the US and wouldn't want that to change.

Thanks for all the input guys. It seems most are happy with where they were bought up and currently live.

After thinking about this a little bit further, I think it's easy to say that you wished you grew up in a different country but if one were to move to a different country we'd all get home sick in some way.

Canada for me, I like the much more liberal and cultural dynamic of the place. Plus It boarders the US so that would be perfect for travels, food, cheap products and then have the ability to escape the happiness and hugely enthusiastic culture of the US that UK people hate admits exists. When i would much rather moan, groan and complain then join a queue to complain about the queue.

I'm from the US, and I like it here... But sometimes I wish I'd been born somewhere with more... class. I guess you could say. Most days, though, I'm happy being here.

The grass is always greener on the other side. ..Until you get there, and then you slowly realize you buggered yourself.

The US is so large, (fun fact!: roughly 38 times bigger than England) that climates and people differ greatly. Wherever you are, I imagine you could find close to your country's climate in some region in the US though. I've lived in Arizona, Ohio, and now Florida. I've been baked, frozen, and steamed. I would have to say steaming Florida is my favorite. I'm pretty happy here but if I had to move I'd like to check out the Northwest like Montana, Colorado, Washington, etc.

Also in the US utilities are pretty cheap compared to the rest of the world. I almost have a heart attack when I see some prices the UK has listed for gasoline and natural gas. OUTRAGEOUS! How are you supposed to heat your home in the winter? Oh my gawd.. Same for video games, my friend in Italy says he pays about 80 Euros a game. ;_;

So if you like buying a ton o' shiitake:, then boy oh boy is the US is the place for you!
Attention all Europeans, DO NOT EVER visit a Walmart or Costco. All your preconceptions of lazy and stupid American hoarders will be confirmed. There are truly some horrible human beings that lurk in those outlets. ha, that is all.

... except for shiitake itself. It's getting easier to find nowadays for sure (esp. in big, coastal cities), but it's still nowhere near common enough to buy anywhere, in bulk, and/or for cheap.

I live in the midwest, it can be outrageously hot and then snow all in the same day. I'm sure you can relate from living in Ohio. The midwest weather is crazy bi-polar.
