I finally received my Midnight Blue Jap controller today, after sitting in U.K customs for over a week, and them charging me and extra £36 pound to release it for delivery , needless to say i was very pissed off!

It was import tax :( basically to stop people buying things from outside the U.K cheaper and avoiding paying tax on goods. I'm fine with that, if this controller was actually ever available to buy in the U.K.

That's just stupid! I presume the seller didn't mark the parcel as a gift then?

Nope :( it was in the U.K a total of eleven days before i received it, which is pretty shocking. I had been away and when i got home i had a letter from parcel force basically telling me i had to pay the £36 or it would be returned to Japan.

Wow £36 is a lot. So in total you spent $226 USD. Was it worth it? Don't know much about the rarity on this controller.

Import duties apply to almost everything brought in from outside the European Union.

here in Holland, what you have to pay depends on the type of article, its value and fate.
If the package (INCLUDING shipping!) is worth more than 25 or 30 euro, you are hit with a 6% or 19% VAT charge, depending on what type of merchandise it is (books are 6% but CD's are 19%)
Plus you have to pay a flat fee of 12,50 euro for administrative costs.

But if you're lucky, the package will slip thru and you dont have to pay anything.

I always get the seller/sender to mark the item as a gift. ddr2nite actually wrote a Happy Birthday note in the 100 universal game cases parcel to me so that it didn't get caught up on the overly priced import tax :D

but "pro" sellers wont as it is actually against (federal) law to do if it's not true.
And guess what? even gifts from friends or family are subject to import duties, depending on their value (or it would be gaping loophole!)
It's a no-win situation, really... you just take your chances and hope for the best.

Its like a lotto here in NZ, they check one in six parcels coming into the country, so if your unlucky you have to pay duty :)

I have had plenty of shipments sent to me (to Australia) worth over $400-500 and never been taxed. I think only if the item is over $1000 we get taxed here. Could be wrong though.

Yeah it is. I've done some research into that Phoenix, when I was importing clothing, nba jerseys into the country. They'll only tax you if the amount is over $1000. I'd just make multiple orders u der that mark just to be safe. Everything always got through.

Of course! But we're talking about the likes of new high priced electrical items and such. Not old gaming gear. The import office doesn't have a clue how much the stuff is worth unless the seller has marked the value on the outside of the package.

Mark the item as low value and as a gift and it will 80% of the time always get through.

Is it just me or was the Mortal Kombat trilogy 64 PAL box of particularly low quality or something? Every MK trology box i've seen (my own copy included) has tears/rips on the corners. Just seems to be a common pattern I see.

So you have about 2 months to get her out. :P

You better keep the stuff out of reach. I told my girl that I don't want kids, because they will destroy all of my toys.

it's such the wrong way to act man. i have two kids, and a third one coming, and the stuff is out of reach. it's in boxes in my closet for now until a build a custom cabinet with glass door and a lock. which should happen when my dad-in-law come's back from Paris. and when i'll buy a house, i'll have my video game room, despite my wife saying no to it, that will be locked as well. so yeah not wanting kids for this reason, that's not a good one :P

When I was little, I went into my brothers room, and thought "why would you have all of these NBA figures, sealed in their packages, just like they came from the store", so I did what a good little bro would do, and opened them all up for him.

I think if karma exists, it would be my spawn somehow getting into my collection (because kids can be very smart, in sometimes evil ways) and rip everything to pieces.

It's mostly a joke. I don't want to have kids because I don't feel like I would be the best parent, who knows, maybe one day that will change.

I hope I didn't offend anybody. Kids are great, I'm just not mature enough (even if I am 28  ) to have them.

New arrivals. I keep forgetting to include the prices for each item. I'll try to post them to the best of my memory:

- The PS3 controller was about $12
- The strategy guides were $4-5 each, but I got them all for free thanks to Bing and Amazon.
- Tony Hawk's American Sk8land was about $3.50
- I ordered Tony Hawk's Proving Ground (DS) and the guy sent me Shaun White's Snowboarding. When I contacted him, he sent me the correct game and told me to keep the other one since it'll cost more for shipping than he'll make selling it.
- Jeremy McGrath's Supercross World was about $3, but again, free thanks to Bing.
- Both copies of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground (PS3 and 360) were free because of Bing, but if I remember correctly, the 360 Limited Edition went for ~$12, and the PS3 was about $5.

I have more coming soon. A couple more strategy guides, and a few more games. One very rare and expensive one should be coming either Tuesday or Wednesday. A lot of my purchases come from getting free Amazon gift cards by being a member of Bing rewards. All you do is make random searches a day and you rack up one point for every two searches. 15 points a day means 30 searches. So I just type 12345678901234567890 and do Click + Backspace + Enter until I finish. Then after a week of doing that, you can get $5 in Amazon gift cards. I made 11 accounts, so every 7-10 days I get $55 instead of just the $5 for one account. I would recommend everyone checking it out since it's free money, it's a reliable source (Bing is run straight by Microsoft), and there's no survey gimmick. I'm not trying to advertise, I'm just trying to give some friendly advice to my fellow collectors.
I'll post a link here in case anyone has trouble finding it.
