Coolios... you should hang that above your nice plasma screen in your living room. Or if its small enough, tape it to the inside of your rear windshield of your car. Reminds me of this 7' tall (and at least 4' wide) larger-than-life Borat my friend has in her house... from when someone was dared to steal it from the theater that was displaying it. |

Picked up Endless Ocean for the Wii today:![]() It's a diving sim, and your "job" is to explore the ocean, find all the different kinds of sea life and guide visitors who want to dive with you. It's all pretty laid back, enjoyable and the Nintendo "touch" is evident. It's not for everyone though, as it's no action game! There's a video of it in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLkB2tOvqnY If you like laid back games then you should think about getting this. It's released in the US in January. It's a budget priced title in the UK, so hopefully the same will apply in the US. |

There is a similarity with Pilotwings, but only in the freedom to explore. Most of the gameplay is a mixture of exploration and collection, and the first objectives you get are to track down all the different species of marine life and to map the underwater topography. Mapping is easy, you simply pass through the area... which reminded me of mapping out the islands in Windwaker. What you will find is that Endless Ocean lacks the challenges that Pilowings presented; the closest thing to a challenge is when you give guided tours... but there's no real difficulty to them. The game looks good when your character is underwater, and the fish and other sealife are all quite nicely detailed. Sadly, the "out of water" graphics you'll see on your boat, or when you look at the scenery above the waves, are quite basic. This isn't a big deal, as these are only a small part of the game. My description of the game probably doesn't do it justice because finding the species of marine life, training your pets and just exploring the ocean is strangely compelling. There are areas which you can't access until you get certain items, which gives you the urge to play on. And the music is particulary good. It sounds very familiar (reminiscant of Mario 64's underwater themes), and there's a good mix of sythesized music, piano melodies and haunting vocals. Most importantly, the music only fades in and out when it's appropriate, the rest of the time you're left only with the sounds of the ocean and your breathing equipment. Like I said in my last post, this game isn't going to be for everybody. Anyone who got bored of Animal Crossing probably won't like this game as the objectives are similarly vague. But it's been sufficiently different and engrossing enough for me to have spent a whole day without playing Super Mario Galaxy...

Is it more about exploration or is it more mission based? I love relaxing games. I used to piss away hours swimming around Mario 64's moat (I wish I was kidding). Also, do you get to sail around in your boat? Is it a lonely game, just you and the fishes, or does it have annoying NPCs that you want to shoot with your harpoon gun? Unrelated note: WINDWAKER RULES!!

It's almost completely exploration-based gameplay. The "missions" are all optional and they're few and far between.
Me too!
You do sail in the boat, but it's simply a case of selecting a point on the map then watching the cutscene. You can walk around the boat when you've reached your destination, speak to your sailing companion, save , read emails (which is how you accept or decline being a guide for people), interact with animals who visit the boat, train your pet, etc.
No NPCs, just you and the fishes. No harpoon gun either! You do have a sailing companion but she can't swim so she never dives with you. Your pet becomes a diving companion... but whether you interact with your pet or not is up to you. |

So far Resident Evil: Deadly Silence is great. Right now I'm playing through the classic mode, since I've never played the original RE in any of its many incarnations. And it's very nice having a map shown in the top screen when you're walking around the mansion. |

I agree... RE:DS is a really good game! If the damn thing allowed more than 5 (or was it 6?) save files, I'd have probably tried to beat it one last time, with Jill Valentine's (baudy) secret outfit (beat it with Chris' 2nd outfit). Also lame was that some of the unlockables are only accessed through the wireless multiplayer modes. Thanks to RE:DS... the first installment of Resident Evil is the only one in the series I've played so far.

Thanks for the update on RE:DS, guys. I'm still not sure about whether to get it or not (mainly because I've already played the original and the Gamecube remake) but if I see it at the right price I might get it.
Shame on you! Get RE:4 for the Wii, you won't be disappointed.

I DID... like right when it was released even, methinks. And I'm NOT disappointed I'm just on a quest to play them in their "proper" (??) order. (Zero? Code: Veronica?? *confused*). Maybe I oughtta go by release dates. |

This order then: RE Zero Resident Evil/DS/REmake RE2 RE3 RE Code Veronica RE4 And Umbrella Chronicles could fit in somewhere between 3 and CV. |

No problem. They're all good games (except for the Outbreak games for PS2) so you should enjoy them. RE4 really is in a different league though... it's just sooooo good!

... I shall save it for last, then. Hopefully my playing all the other games in the series beforehand will balance out the uber-self-hyping-to-the-point-of-fearing-an-over-hyping-ness of RE4. |

30 dollars? I'd say that's about normal for a Dreamcast, but a great deal nevertheless. |
