I don't like the SNES... Go on! Sell it!

XD

But don't sell a Mega Drive! (Genesis in USA)

Really... SNES for me is just Zelda and Metroid... and the Game Boy Zeldas and Metroids are better... =P

I cannot believe you're selling your SNES! Nintendo's crowning achievement...their masterpiece!

Don't worry, I completely understand why you're selling it. However, before you rush out and make such a stupid move, I will attempt to change your mind.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't seem like much of an RPG fan. However, the SNES is the perfect system to get you immersed within the genre. The SNES has undeniably some of the greatest RPGs of all time, and I REALLY REALLY REALLY think you should keep your SNES and invest into some of its RPG goodness. The obvious Final Fantasy games, Secret of Mana/Evermore, Lufia 1 and 2, Earthbound, Ultima 6 and 7, Wizardy 5, Super Mario RPG, Might and Magic 3, Romancing Saga 3 and (of course) the brilliant Chrono Trigger.

You NEED these games. But if you sell your SNES, how will you play these games in all their 16bit goodness? ;)

:_D I don't mind RPG's. In fact, I'm playing through three RPG's just now; Oblivion, Eternal Sonata and Pokemon Diamond.

I really have made up my mind though; I don't play the SNES so I should sell it. Maybe one day I'll pick up an NTSC SNES so I can play all those games.

Maybe.

Correction: You're only playing through one RPG -- one wonderful, Chopinesque RPG!

Now the SNES is gone. ;_;

I sold her for a good price to a guy I work with, complete with all the games. I also sold him a few of the third party N64 controllers that I never/hardly ever use for a good price (the Competition Pro, SuperPad 64 and Ultra Racer 64 controllers).

This thread has got to contain the most blasphemy I've seen so far, and I've seen some serious blasphemy. This is worse than when Alxbly stated that many N64 games suck, it's worse than Ragedy hating beer, and it's definitely worse than Rapueda not liking Super Mario 64!

I know! I honestly never thought I'd here something more blasphemous than that on this board. Congratulations alxbly. ;_;

Though to be honest, this would probably be on par with alxbly saying that he finds it painfully hard to play 2D games for longer than an hour or so. 2D! The way games were meant to be played!

Correction; the way SOME games are meant to be played. And what's with the "were"? Past tense? 2D can still be done beautifully.

But you've misquoted or misunderstood the meaning of whatever topic that came from. There are some 2D games that no longer hold my attention (some 3D games as well) but what I was meaning to allude to is that, very simply, I'll almost always choose new console games over old ones. There's several reasons for this:

1) I prefer the immersion that "teh uber graficks" gives.
2) I'm too lazy to hook up older consoles to the TV.
3) Personal preference in genres... for example, I prefer first person shooters to 2D shooters.

There's other reasons too. I've been playing computer games since I was about five years old, so that's twenty five years of playing games. When I play games now I want something to get excited about, something new, something fresh, something OMFG!!! (I promise I'll never use that abbreviation again... ^_^ ). A lot of older games just don't give me that feeling.

And then there's the aged thing. I remember some game to be waaaaayyyy better than they actually are. Replaying some old Atari and Commodore 64 games ruined my memories. They were crap, they looked crap, they sounded like crap and they were only fun for five minutes. There were some that were genuinely good, but as a five year old kid anything that moved and beeped was super cool to me. And to find out it's not anywhere near as cool as you thought is pretty soul destroying. I thought the Commodore 64 Transformers game was cool. It's soooo not. :(

But I still get engrossed in 2D games, such as Pokemon Diamond and New Super Mario Bros and I still enjoy occasional blasts on older consoles. Part of my reasoning behind selling the SNES is that I could easily play the games I owned on other systems; the DS/GBA/Virtual Console/Xbox Live Arcade... maybe even emulation. :-X

And there's one other factor that I've not mentioned. Mrs Alxbly and I are talking about moving house sometime... maybe not soon, but we're making plans. I don't want to have to move any more stuff than is necessary so if there's things I'm not using then I'll sell them off. Who knows, there might even be little alxblys on the cards sometime soon and then we'll really need the extra room that all these consoles, games and boxes take up.

Anyway, there it is. I wish I could say how much the SNES is the best freakin' console and I never want to quit playing it... but I just don't feel that way. I hardly ever want to play it. So I sold it.

But if I'd known I was gonna get such a hard time for selling it I would have kept it.

And then set fire to it. >:-]

Honestly apart from Chrono Trigger and A Link to the Past no SNES game can really hold my attention that long.

But Chrono Trigger is my favorite game on any platform, so it still love the SNES.

The Mega Drive was an all round better console.

That's fair enough alxbly, I wasn't being overly serious anyway. I will definitely agree with you that replaying some games on older consoles completely ruins the memories that you have with that game. Attempting to replay Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire a few weeks ago absolutely destroyed my fond memories of that game. I was left with a puzzled look on my face, thinking to myself: "How could I have ever enjoyed this rubbish?".

The Mega Drive is my favourite of the two systems (and also happens to be my second favourite console of all time after the N64) but I wouldn't say that it was an "all round better console". The Mega Drive had some incredibly good arcade conversions, but I'd say that the SNES had a far more balanced library of games.

I wouldn't say so. There's an answer on the Mega Drive for any game I've enjoyed on the SNES, other than maybe Mario Kart. Other than it's RPG and platformers the SNES' library is kinda eh to me.

But my first console was the Mega Drive so my view is probably a little skewed.

I had both a Genesis and an SNES, and like -- um, the Genesis didn't have a decent answer to most things on the SNES. The Genesis had Sonic, Shining Force, and some beat-em-ups. The SNES had platformers, RPGs, and shooters -- which is like 98% of the 16-bit era games. If the SNES library is "kinda eh" to you, then what in the heck are you playing on the Genesis that's so impressive?

An answer for every SNES game? Forgive my assumption here, but would you seriously say that Phantasy Star was Sega's answer for Final Fantasy? I'd love to know what you were playing on the Mega Drive because I need those games.

Like you, the Mega Drive was also my first console and consequently I do like it better than the SNES. But I'm having a hard time accepting that it had, say, RPGs and platformers that were on par with the games within those genres that the SNES boasted (apart from Sonic).

Looking forward to Prof. Layton, which should be in my grubby hands by this Wed., along with some other DS games... forgot which... maybe it was Contra 4? Megaman ZX Advent? Can't remember. >_< Layton... clouding... all else.

It's funny... how I know which games I'll rip right out of the plastic and play immediately, while everything else will land at the end of my ever-expanding queue of unsurmountable happiness.

Contra 4! That's what you want. You cannot live without Contra 4! I really want Layton too.

And... and the mythical Metroid Dread! I'll never give up hope that it still exists. In the words of the greatest philosopher of the 20th century, "Never give up; trust your instincts!"

Yes I would. I like Phantasy Star II better than Final Fantasy.

Games/series I enjoyed on Genesis that come to mind:

Shining Force
Phantasy Star
Sonic
Landstalker
Gunstar Heroes
Lightning Force
M.U.S.H.A.
Streets of Rage
Ecco the Dolphin
Twinkle Tale
Toejam & Earl

After Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy and Secret of Evermore the rest of those average RPGs that fill the SNES' library (Lufia, Secret of Mana) got pretty boring.

If you're going to say that Phantasy Star is better than Final Fantasy, you're definitely going to have to give some evidence. Final Fantasy did acquire it's army of fans by being generic and boring.
