Verrrrrrry verrrrrry nice, Dee!! Looks like you're scoring all sorts of Sony exclusives left and right!! Well... except for Borderlands 2... your purchasing that makes me think you're taking a glorious step towards console-agnosticism!!

I have found myself fairly annoyed with this game for like two years now, but I've also been amazed at what people can do with the thing (like our own forum's Gooman). So I got it for three reasons: 1)To see what all the hype is about 2)To see if I can do anything cool with it myself 3)To test my patience because I know you can't just make things with the snap of your finger. It will take time and patience (something I don't have enough of these days) so it might do me some good...or I might rip out what little hair I have left. I have this sad affliction that I refer to as openitis. It is where I fear that I might just return all of my impulse buys before I give them a try so, in the ultimate sickness, I open them as soon as I get them home so that I can't return them. I'm pretty hopeless. Edited by The Red Shadow, Jun 10 2013, 06:00 AM.

It's a lot of fun. Don't take it too seriously, it's definitely a casual game. And the Xbox version has something that the PC version doesn't. Connectivity. It's so much fun to be able to play with your friends and talk to them while you build awesome castles or just survive. I'm sure you'll come to like it, it hasn't sold 10.8m copies for no reason

I don't understand. Why all the Minecraft hate? I bought it when it was still in development (for PC) and it was the best $13 USD I ever spent on a game. I even hosted my own server for a while at one point, on an old desktop (until updates made this implausible). So many hours spent on such a creative game, both with and without outside help... I've never played the 360 version, but perhaps someone can explain all the negativity? If it's just due to the 360 version's limitations then you're simply playing the wrong version. PC is where it's at.

I don't do Xbox Live Gold so I couldn't play/talk with friends anyway. I don't have any desire to, truthfully. I'll just play the creative mode and see if I can keep myself entertained for awhile before I start digging holes to the center of the world. My only negativity has come from the fact that I could never quite understand what all the hype was about. Digital Lego-type world? Why was that so amazing to some people? Especially in the mode where you have to spend all that time crafting and building. The focus being on "have to". If I want to build stuff then I have all of my daughter's Legos at my disposal. I'm just caught off guard at times by what people get into. But, I acknowledge that Minecraft is a sensation and to have a physical copy of it in my collection for only $20 just seemed to make sense. For all I know the physical copies could become rare or something and I might just find myself enjoying it for awhile. Edited by The Red Shadow, Jun 11 2013, 01:23 AM.

My hatered of Minecraft is purely because I spent so much time locking it down on the school network where I previously used to work. Because so many of the students used to play it actually used to saturate the internet connection so became a nuisance. I really can't see what all the fuss is about. From what I understand your supposed to build to protect yourself from zombies/monsters that come out at night!? Maybe I'm wrong but that's how one of the students described it to me. To me it just looks a little boring and repetitive but then I suppose it would when you've seen 50 or so PC's with it being played on

I put robocop on last night and it KICKED MY :donkey:, I couldn't even complete the first level. Games really are dumbed down and made so easy now. I'd love to see a COD kit play this game, no chance they would complete it. Good memories and I WILL beat it

@The Red Shadow, I understand what you're saying, though the point isn't so much "crafting and building" as it is 'mining and crafting' ( ). But I see what you mean. I never really knew anyone who got all hyped up about it, though you've pretty much nailed it: it's like virtual Legos (although I do love Legos). And back in the day, survival mode was the only mode available, so everything else has become kind of an extra for the game. And TBH, I can't tell you why it became a sensation, but I always thought building a city with friends was like taking SimCity a step further. My favorite part was always being able to host my own little area and having friends join my game and build incredible structures together. And now that that's becoming easier, I'll probably start playing more again. Plus all the different mods that are available take it several steps further: there are lots of weaponry, customized blocks, and fairly intelligent mob mods that take the game to a whole different level. You really can be as creative as you want to be. Though I don't quite understand what the 360 version has that the PC version doesn't... I guess owning a physical copy of the game is nice, but the PC version offers a lot more customization. @Clarky, Quite understandable, especially in your situation. And yes, you pretty much just protect yourself from monsters, but only if you play the 'real' way. Another aspect of the game is that you can pretty much build anything you want, and make it functional (depending on what it is). Redstone allows a simplified version of electronic circuits, so you can make functioning machinery as well. I've used it to make a functioning keyboard (only 4 octaves, though) and several music boxes (that play a specific song when activated), and also hidden fortresses that only appear once you find the hidden switch (plus lots of more simple things). So again, I don't really see any need to fuss about it, but it is a great way to waste countless hours of your life. It's only as repetitive as your creativity limits you to be- so every time you start a new world with a different goal, the game changes entirely. |
