Layton = sweet. Picross DS has competition at last! Turns out I got both those other games too. ... but I'm afraid I won't be enough a man to take on Contra 4... (never got past level 2 of Contra III)
Meteos I haven't spent much time with, but Polarium I know is good fun... made it about 60 puzzles deep (in Puzzle Mode) before Picross DS came in and raped it. Always sucked balls at the Challenge Mode. |

Let's see, I've bought a few new games lately: - Soul Calibur II (Xbox) - Killzone (PS2) - Half-Life (PS2) - Official Sony memory card (PS2) I don't have a PS2 yet but I'm planning on getting one next Sunday if it does go down to $99.99, as a Target ad someone scanned and posted online suggests. Target had the DS system on sale before Christmas, so it might be true. |

Got Ghost Squad for the Wii yesterday. It's okay in short blasts but isn't anything special. Meh. |

The most recent game I picked up was Twisted Metal: Head-On Extra Twisted Edition for PS2. I haven't played the actual main game but I spent some time checking out the cool extra features and that was fun. Watched a documentary with David Jaffe and other people who made the first two games and Black and checked out the Sweet Tour, an on-foot tour of TM factoids where you control Sweet Tooth out of his ice cream truck. |

No, Final Fantasy isn't generic and boring. I love it, just like Phantasy Star II more. After I played a few of the SNES RPGs (The pride of the library) I found things like Lufia and Secret of Mana boring. I've played this game before. |

I was in Circuit City yesterday deciding what my first Wii game should be. Well, technically it'd be my third, but I consider Wii Sports and Wii Play to be a given. Anyways, I was hoping that either Zelda or Super Paper Mario had gone down in price, but they were still $50. While browsing the shelves, I noticed Zack and Wiki for $30. I've read some reviews of it, and it sounds like something I'd like, despite the lame theme of the game. I was tempted, but I continued searching. Behind a row of crappy licensed games, I had discovered a single copy of Endless Ocean. I felt like I was already on an exploratory expedition, so I took the treasure home. All I can say is... well, wow. Just wow. I've only played for less than an hour, but already I can tell you this game is something special. The last time I was this compelled to go exploring in a game was Super Mario 64. However, this isn't the type of game I could play for long periods at a time, but maybe that's a good thing. It could last for a while. |

Well done Mop. Endless Ocean deserves all the praise it gets because it actually embodies the Wii spirit of being something different. And it's great fun.

That's one of my favourite FPS of all time. CoD 4 blows it away for obvious reasons, but it still holds up as one of the best FPS of the last few years. My friends and I are constantly playing that game online, in fact I don't think I've ever played the single player missions for longer than about an hour. ![]() Be sure to check out the Stalingrad map whilst taking the game online, that map makes for some incredibly intense sniper-showdowns. El-Alamein is another gem, some of the the most heated deathmatchs I've ever had have been in those dark, gloomy trenches. Though this is based on my experiences with the PC version of the game, but I'm assuming that the 360 version has all the same multiplayer maps. All this talk about online gaming makes me sad that I'm the only PC gamer here. Maybe I should just give up and get a 360.

I played the single player demo of Call of Duty 2 some time ago and really liked it. I guess that because it has the same control scheme as CoD4 I felt right at home.
Both games really are exceptional. I regret ignoring the Call of Duty series for so long now... when they first came out I viewed tham as another Medal of Honor clone... which is ironic really. The history of Infinity Ward is similar to the history of of a certain other developer who gets a lot of praise here... A new team makes a great game (Medal of Honor Allied Assault) then key figures within that team leave to set up their own development house and start a new series of critically accliamed games (Call of Duty). Does that sound a bit like the Rare/Free Radical (Goldeneye/Timesplitters) story to anyone? |

I've been a huge Call of Duty fan since the first game was released. The first time I saw the video previews of the game, I was immediately smitten with the series. I still play the first game all the time, it has that magic feeling that I thought I'd only get from GoldenEye and Perfect Dark (in regards to FPS). The Call of Duty series is easily my favourite FPS series, followed closely by TimeSplitters. It's interesting the hear that the developers all worked on the Medal of Honour series before forming their own development team. That was certainly a good move in my opinion, considering how vastly superior Call of Duty is to Medal of Honour. |

Indeed. I recently played Medal of Honor Airborne and guess which series it tries deseperately to immitate? It's almost laughable... or it would be if Medal of Honor Airborne wasn't so average. |

Got Asphalt Urban GT 2 for the DS a few days ago. It's Burnout meets Need For Speed Most Wanted on the DS but it's very similar to the first game in the series. The same cars and tracks appear in both, although 2 has some new tracks and includes motorbikes. And although the tracks and cars have been given a modest facelift for the second game, the bikes aren't really all that good....

From eBay I plucked copies of Twisted Metal 3, Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 and Tenchu, all for PlayStation. I don't have them yet but I owned and played them all before and loved them. I'm also on a kick for car combat games so I hope to get the other three Twisted Metals and the two Vigilante 8s when I can. |

If you're patient (I know I'm not ), you can wait until Layton gets released in Europe... there's really NO WAY that they couldn't release this game worldwide... it would be... as Mop would put it... "BLASPHEMY" I'd wager that it's just taking its sweet time due to localization... as it is a pretty text-heavy piece of godsend. As far as dedicated, commercial import sites (as in, not eBay)... Play-Asia has always treated me nice. National Console Support is fairly reputable, as well. |

When it comes to new releases, I HATE to live in Europe! <_< WHYYY do release dates have to be different by MONTHS? I know Japan always comes first because a lot of games are from Japan but still... I'm waiting for all these (mostly DS) games to be released in Europe and I have to wait for MONTHS Then I'm visiting GameFAQs and I see a new game is released. "I would want that game! :D" *checks release date* "... nevermind, still over 3 months of waiting left >_<" Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations "Finally, the 3rd sequel :D" *checks GameFAQ's* "NO EUROPEAN RELEASE DATE YET???" *checks again a few weeks later* 10/23/07 US 03/21/08 EU "Well, I guess I have to wait for FIVE MORE MONTHS then... <_< so what else would be nice?" Bleach: The Blade of Fate "Ah, sweet! A Bleach fighting game for the DS! ^_^" 10/09/07 US "No European release??? :(" *checks again, a few weeks later* 02/29/08 EU "YAY! Another 4 and a half months to wait!!! :-/" Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney "What? ANOTHER game from the series? When will it be released? "02/19/08 US "Oh wait, that's the US release" 04/11/08 EU " ...

I was playing Layton yesterday. Right here, in the UK!
A game store around the corner from me has an import copy from the states, so I got a chance to try it out. I was playing the chickens and the wolves game, where you have to get them across the river. Anyone remember the flash game that was the same? Anyway, DS games are region free so either just import them (it'll probably cost about the same as the European release) or search eBay. There's no need to wait if there's a DS game you really want. The reason European releases take so long is 1) Translation into the different European languages and 2) Nintendo don't give a ****, have never given a **** nor will they ever give a **** about Europe. Occasionally they pretend otherwise but the truth is out there for all to see. And Sony are just as bad. IMPORTING IS YOUR FRIEND. Trust me on that. Here's some other decent import sites: http://www.estarland.com/index.asp?page=DefaultPage&q= http://www.genkivideogames.com/homepagegenki.asp http://www.ncsx.com/ But my favorite is still http://www.play-asia.com/

Stafi 2 & 3 arrived today, as well as a Japanese version of Metroid: Zero Mission. I'm considering trying to collect all versions of Metroid games. None of them are dreadfully expensive (that I know of), the artwork is pleasant, and there hasn't been a bad Metroid game to date. It might be nice to say "look at this! Every Metroid game in a box! While you love me now?" |
