Had a bit of a spending spree:![]() Couldn't resist buying Shadow Man again, since it was in great condition and came with the box, instructions, even the map! This will be the 4th copy of Shadow Man for the N64 that I've bought. The first one I bought when it came out and I traded it along with all my N64 stuff in 2001. The second copy was a French version I bought by accident (and then destroyed). The third copy I got shortly after discovering I'd bought the French version and I traded in this one after buying the superior Dreamcast version. This time I'm gonna keep the game, regarless of what happens. I hadn't seen an official PS2 wireless controller before so I had to have one. If it's good I'll be going back to buy a few more and probably trade in one of the official wired controllers I have! The Gamecube games look suspiciously new... even more suspicious considering that these were the very same games that the store was selling brand new and for full price (£40 each) last week. They're all in immaculate condition and I suspect they actually are new but the store is trying to clear their stock of Gamecube games. Mario Tennis Toadstool Tour - never played it, hope it's good. Geist - Had a quick shot of it. Reviews were pretty average so I'm not expecting much. RE: Code Veronica X - Got Code Veronica for the Dreamcast but it's easier to play this on the Wii than to hook up the Dreamcast. Does it have any extra stuff that wasn't in the DC release? Anyone? Wario World - Owned this a long time ago and never really got into it. So I'll give it another try. Some sad news as well though. The last big store in the UK to sell retro stuff (Gamestation) seem to be phasing it out. The guy behind the counter said that they're no longer taking older systems or games as trade-ins and will soon stop selling them. Darn.

Yeah, unfortunately there's a lot of that going around. There are likely many reasons for it: with the advent of eBay, most people don't go to game stores anymore to buy/sell older games and systems. Prices on some games can also fluctuate rapidly; stores had the risk of buying a game for a high price only to watch its value decrease. That's why they reduced the trade-in value to 10-20% of what they sell it for. This of course caused many sellers to use eBay instead, and if that's where the sellers have gone, the buyers will follow. It's kind of sad really. Nothing beats the thrill of stumbling upon a desired game in pile of cartridges at a store. EBay is no fun, pretty much any game is instantly accessible. And because sellers can check other auctions to see what a game is worth, it is quite difficult to score a good deal on a rare game. R.I.P. game stores. You may be gone, but never forgotten. |

Yeah, the chances of finding something special in a store have decreased significantly in the past few years as eBay's popularity grows. That's not really a bad thing, as games are easier to find than ever before. However, a lot of stores check eBay before pricing an item... then add their own cut on top of that! There's no point spending than you have to so unless a store can compete with eBay then it's unlikely it'll get my business.
The best finds are still the jumble sales, fleamarkets, pawns shops, etc. I was pretty lucky recently and got a N64 controller for £2; eBay price: £8-£12, game store price: £10+. I guess I can't complain about the loss of retro stuff in stores because most of them lost my business some time ago.

We also had a store like that in a city near my hometown. I used to visit it, sometime only just to browse through the retro games
I hadn't visited in a while, and about half a year ago I started to play the N64 again, so I went to visit this store again to find out if they still have some N64 games... STORE GONE!!!
That was the only store close to me. I can *try* to find such stores in other cities but I don't want to have to drive 2 hours just for looking at some stores and even with the possibility that I won't find one because (as you've said) they're all closing down
EBay has some advantages but at a high price... R.I.P. game stores indeed

I bought Rondo of Swords (DS). It plays surprisingly different than most SRPGs. Instead of moving next to your enemy to attack, you attack by moving through them, which means you can attack multiple foes at once. This also means that you can't really tank. Mages cannot move and cast in the same turn either. This means that most of the common strategies used in these types of games is ineffective. Combined with the fact that you are usually vastly outnumbered, the game is extremely challenging. If you're interested in it, you probably want to get it now. Atlus is notorious for their low production runs and this seems like it will fall victim to rarity very quickly. |

Recently got Boom Blox for Wii. It's a puzzle game involving a tower of blocks and some way to knock them down, such as grabbing blocks or throwing balls. There are a few twists here and there to keep things interesting, and the physics are pretty dynamic. Like many puzzle games *coughTetrisAttackcough* it has annoying characters thrown in for no apparent reason. If you have any interest in puzzle games or just like knocking things over, you should check out this game. |

Bought Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. I'm not far (halfway through the first case) but I can already say that it's just as much of a masterpiece as the first 2 (yes, I'm an Ace Attorney fan). Now I only have to import Trials and Tribulations... I'm beginning to give up hope that it will ever come out in Europe. |

Indeed! DEATH to Capcom!!! There, I said it! DEATH TO THEM! I've been waiting my ass off for Trials and Tribulations to be finally released here in Europe, and what do they do?!? THEY RETRACT THE EU RELEASE DATE!!! What is the point of playing part 1 and 2 of a trilogy, not being able to play part 3, and the first part of another series comes out before it? <_< Capcom always makes good games, but lately their marketing strategies just SUCK

Yes. Exactly. I would have imported TaT long ago but I don't have a credit card yet (under 18) and my parents don't want to use theirs to buy something on another continent. I have been looking into the other payment options on Play-Asia though, I might be able to get it soon (I only buy from the big, well-known stores (safety measure) and stuff like Amazon doesn't ship games to Belgium :(). |

Bubble Bobble (NES) Nanostray 2 (DS) Ocarina of Time/Master Quest (GC) The only reason I bought the latter was to resell it on eBay. I saw it at a yard sale for $5.

Fighter, Red Mage, Black Mage, White Mage -- that's the way to go. The more mages you have, the more awesome/style points you get after every battle. Killing Chaos with a White Mage and a wooden staff nets you like 5 million style points! |

Forget about style points, raw power is where it's at! Have 1 Fighter and leave everyone else dead the whole game. Make one of the dead ones a Black Belt in case you want some more force later in the game; at level 50, it's even stronger than a Fighter! |
