So a bit of retail store current-gen bargain-buying going on on my end lately... Best Buy was offering Vita games for $10 each a week or so ago, and Target honored a price match against Amazon for MK8, IN ADDITION to a current promo they're running offering $15 off any game over $40 if you put $1 towards a pre-order. Meaning I was essentially able to score MK8 for a few cents over $37!! :yeah: (I'm throwing away the pre-order, lol.)

... not to mention the free WiiU game download with MK8 is still valid. :yeah: :yeah:

Father day today in the UK and my daughter (wife) brought me this book about the history of Ocean software. Really good with loads of pictures and high rez scans of old game cases. If any of your were into C64 pr Spectrums in the day then you would've played an Ocean game.

love it! ocean is one of my favorite developers. i especially like their robocop games, but i also like:
- lethal weapon (snes)
- mission impossible (N64)
- and of course robocop 3, their best ever game IMO. everyone is always talking about contra III but i much rather play robocop 3: no overhead walking levels and way cooler weapons. robocop 3's laser sound killer, while contra's laser weapon sounds like a robot taking a wizz or something (snes)

Sooo happy today,

Was on a trip to Belgium today (from The Netherlands) to bring back 119 (!) empty beer bottles I had from there. While browsing the supermarket, I found Mario Kart 8 as a Limited Edition, for "only" €59,95! Here in the Netherlands it's all sold out, and the regular release costs the same.
I don't own a WiiU yet, but the first game is there already! Wanted this game soo bad as a limited edition, but was too late with the pre order here. Soo happy I didn't buy the regular here, and found a limited one today!

Now all I need is a Zelda WiiU and Smash Bros when it releases, and I'm done for the WiiU releases I'll buy brand new.

a vampire's kiss with cart and box (box was in 7/10 condition with ugly marker on the flap) just went for 306 euro on ebay.

i think thats insane, for a game thats not even complete and missing its manual. mint CIB copies sell for 400 euro

i'm all for collecting CIB and am ready to pay full price, but not for incomplete copies. where on earth is that buyer ever going to find a manual anymore (assuming he doesnt have one already)?

this is getting silly...

We found this at an antique dealer, not far from us. It is a Japanese Gameboy kiosk. 155cm tall. It was such a fluke that we saw it advertised. How it got to Australia in the first place...no idea!

We also had a small DSi/DSi XL demo/size comparison arrive this week.

I see all this amazing stuff. A nice WiiU bundlr, an epic gameboy kiosk, and what did I get..?

3 gamecube games as a trade.
Traded a Barbie game for gameboy and 5 DC Comics for Outlaw Golf, Crash Bandicoot and Bomberman Generations. The guy owed me one game from last trade, so I think this was a great deal. Love all 3 of the games!

I sold my copy of Super Mario 3D World a few months back, and waiting on a Target deal since I've got like $230 in gift cards from trading a bunch of 3DS and Wii U games in. They're running a b2g1 on Wii U games. So I got them to price match amazons prices for a copy of SM3DW for $49, then I got 2 copies of Mario Kart 8 for $48 each. I opened the two mario karts, took the club nintendo offers out and traded them into bestbuy for $78 in gift cards, and used one of the free game offers with mk8 for NSMBU and I'm selling the other for $30. Basically I made money and got Mario 3D World and NSMBU with $78 in bestbuy credit and $30 cash. Not bad aha

It's been a couple months since I posted, but since then I've gotten the NTSC-U versions of 1080 Snowboarding, Conker's Bad Fur Day, FIFA 99, and Star Wars Episode I: Racer. Obviously CBFD is the major 'get' there, but since mine are played the others are just as valued. My 'criteria' for adding to my NTSC collection are thus; I had it and liked it back in the day for my old PAL collection (which I no longer have), or I never had it and wanted it. 1080 and CBFD are the former. Had those games, and loved them to bits.

It's actually FIFA 99 and Star Wars Episode I: Racer that I'm more excited about, having wanted them but never getting them. I had World Cup 98 back in the day for my old PAL N64. True to expectation, FIFA 99 seems little more than an incremental improvement, as per the norm for every FIFA game even today. The tackling seems a little tighter, and the goalies aren't as weak. There seem to be less 'sweet spots', which is terminology that players of oldschool football games used to describe a spot from where a shot could be taken, and the goalie would almost never save it.

Overall it's much the same game, just a little better. The last FIFA for the console, glad to have it. It actually has a hi-res mode, but the game becomes doggedly-slow with it engaged, so off it shall remain! I found it interesting that the game presents the American MLS as the default league selection. Of course this is because it's the American version of the game, but we're used to our FIFA in this house and it has caught us out a few times, haha!

Star Wars Episode I: Racer is every bit as great as I've heard. The driving/flying(?) mechanics are spot-on, and the game is a joy to play even now. The feeling of actually piloting a pod racer from Star Wars is quite uncanny for an N64 title. It must have been amazing when it was released. The game actually runs nicely in the N64's hi-res mode, which I find a rarity. This, Rogue Squadron and Shadow Man lead the pack in my collection, with regards to how well they perform with the hi-res mode engaged. They're a little slower, but the gains in clarity far outweigh the losses in framerate in these cases. Most seem to be of the 'big gain in clarity, equally big loss of framerate' variety.

I have to say, graphically, I find Episode I: Racer tough to beat. I'm not gonna go crazy and say it has the best graphics on the console or anything, but it looks very nice. Especially in-game, whilst you're actually racing. Though the track number is artificially buffed via refitting the same tracks with different, more challenging layouts as you go through the tournaments, they each have a very good sence of style. There's a nice variety of environments, and the pods look amazing. I only wish that there was music for the entire race, not just the final lap. If you're wondering, the game does not use a rubber-banding method for the AI during single-player like Mario Kart 64 (and 1080 Snowboarding). If they're creaming you, they won't slow down. If they're behind, they won't magically gain speed.

As with any racer, multiplayer is where it at, and on the whole the game does not disappoint. It's a shame that you can only do head-to-head (without the AI racers), but I suppose this was done out of saving resources for getting as many frames out the door as possible, which I find commendable and almost always the right move. It looks amazing in single player, and doesn't lose much in multiplayer at that. The draw-distance is nearer, and some particle effects appear pared-back. It's an impressive split-screen game on the system, and performs admirably. It proved for a great evening of racing, and Mario Kart got a rest for once!

1080 Snowboarding and Conker's Bad Fur Day are, of course, fantastic games as well. I'm looking forward to playing through CBFD again, and 1080 is mostly there for multiplayer purposes. Though I might have to earn the secret racers, which will necessitate completing it on expert difficulty (not easy with the aggressive AI rubber-banding), among other things. We'll see.

There aren't many more games I'm after, now. Just Resident Evil 2, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Banjo-Kazooie, 007: The Word is Not Enough, Quake I & II, and some others I can't remember. Come to think of it, there's still a fair few I want to get... lol.
