What's it like? Pikmin was an excellent game on the cube but I can't see the wiimote making a big difference to the overall experience.

New Play Control Mario Tennis has me sold though... :D But not for £30. >_< I'll be watching for it on Ebay though. :yeah:

Persona 4 (had it preordered from the UK, arrived today)
Tetris DS
Star Fox Command (was only 5 euros, so I could probably get the amount back by trading it in if I don't like it)

I got Persona 4 on Friday, been playing it and it seems pretty good. Did you get the version that has the soundtrack CD? I've already put it on my MP3. :D

I got the soundtrack CD too. It's a nice bonus, that's two new soundtrack CDs in the last month or so (Chrono Trigger also had one as a preorder bonus) :)

I haven't started it yet, I'll start it ASAP (I might finish Half-Life 2 first though).

Why is it £30? Isn't that only five less than regular games, or at least more than 3/5ths the price? I don't know what is up with NoE's ripoffs, but I suppose it could have to do with the wonky exchange rates.

Anyways, I bought it the day after it was released, and if you've read any of the negative reviews it has been getting, then I strongly suggest ignoring them. The best and most accurate review I have read so far comes from someone who didn't play the GameCube original, just like us:

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/reviewArt.cfm?artid=17962

I think the first line sums up the game nicely:

Quote:

You know how when you first try bleu cheese it's way too potent and abrasive, but then when you eat some more of it you realize it's the greatest cheese of them all?

Basically, the controls are probably going to seem a bit off the first time you play the game, but after you experiment and figure out exactly what kinds of motions result in which type of shot, the controls work just fine. That said, they will never be as precise as the original button controls, but this shouldn't pose a problem in multiplayer or even the tournaments against the CPU. The minigames, however, are a mess no matter how you slice it, but they're no real loss.

If someone first plays this game in a multiplayer setting then I recommend you let them have a practice round or two. Try to explain to them how the controls work as well, assuming you've figured them out yourself.

Yeah, me too, my library is fairly diverse if I do say so myself. Especially when it comes to mixed opinions, I like to try out games and decide for myself if they are good or not.

Are you trying to tell me something...?

Anyways, last week I returned to GameStop to pick up a few more GameCube games. Unfortunately Dakar 2 was nowhere to be found, so I got:

Geist: With all of the mixed reviews of this game I decided it best to just try it out and see for myself whether or not it is actually good.
Future Tactics The Uprising: The name of this one sounds familiar so I bought it. Plus it was really cheap.
Super Monkey Ball: This was a launch title, right? It seems to be a fairly popular series so I figured it's about time I check the game out.

Nice buys. Crackdown is really excellent, especially as an online co-op game. Drop me a message if you fancy some co-op play.

Kameo is good if a little short. It'll give you N64 nostalgia. :D

I actually bought Crackdown based on your recommendations (and some videos) :) I didn't play it yet, have been to o busy with other things. I'll try it in the next few days though, hopefully.

As for Kameo, I really like those colorful, happy fairy-tale-style games. Maybe that's weird, or maybe that's just memories of the Banjo series, the Mario series, Zelda Wind Waker, etc. But I've started the game and I really like it so far.

Here's an update on the stuff I bought in February, March and so far in April. The stuff I got this time is a little less platform biased than when I last posted photos of recent purchases. ^_^

Firstly, the Xbox 360 games I've bought:

Posted Image

Battlefield 2 seems alright but I don't think it's anything special. I dunno when or if I'll ever get around to playing this game as there are plenty of better FPS's on the 360. Blacksite is really easy and not that good so I'll probably end up trading it in. Still got to find time to work through GTA IV: The Lost and Damned but what I have played has been pretty good. Of the Need For Speed games I've got recently, Undercover is the best, Carbon is decent and Pro Street really isn't that good. Overlord is good fun and has an almost Rare-esque sense of humour. End War is the best RTS I've played on the 360 (and, yeah, I've played Halo Wars). RE5 is my game of choice just now. The white thing is a 360 rechargable battery charging station. :)

Playstation, Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 games:

Posted Image

Still not much to interest me on PS3. Mirrors Edge seems to be more style than substance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is good and feels a little easier than the Xbox original(s), Street Fighter IV hasn't really grabbed my attention yet.

Driv3r seems like it needed a lot more development time, Parallel Lines is better and much more playable, Manhunt could grow on me, Persona 4 is excellent. Silent Hill is a demo disc that was in the Metal Gear Solid box, Metal Gear Solid is sadly missing the first disc but otherwise in mint condition, I've not played TOCA2 yet and Wip3out keeps crashing when I try to play it on PS3. Best try it on PSone I guess.

Xbox games:

Posted Image

Crazy Taxi 3 is pretty good although it suffers from slowdown on some tracks. Fallout is decent, I'm suprised this didn't get better scores when it was released and Ghost Recon 2 is much better than the first game (although I own the first game on Gamecube which wasn't the best platform for it). I also got an original "Duke" controller. It's massive, lol.

DS and N64 games:

Posted Image

GTA: Chinatown Wars is what I play on the toilet and in bed. ^_^ F1 World Grand Prix is the last of the N64 games that I originally owned back in the day... and now I've bought it again. I didn't feel the need up until now because the sequel (which I own) is slightly better. However, this was cheap so I just decided to pick it up.

Rush 2 is pretty rare in the UK, I've been looking for this game for a while (purely on Mop's recommendation). It's good, I like it. :) Taz Express is a PAL exclusive and it's not very good. It plays like a side scrolling platformer but is sort of 3D. Meh.

Gamecube and Wii games:

Posted Image

Metal Arms is more third person shooter shenanigans kinda like Jet Force Gemini. Seems decent. Animal Crossing has me sucked in again, House of the Dead Overkill is waaayyy better than any other on-rails shooter for the Wii and Madworld is... nasty! >:-] I like it.

And game guides:

Posted Image

Started collecting guides as well. I'd like to track down a Banjo Kazooie and Goldeneye guide, but only if they're the right price.

Sold: SSX Blur (Wii), I've played it enough and it's not good enough compared to SSX 3 and On Tour to justify keeping all 3) and Sega Superstars (PS2). Got €15 store credit, which is more than I would have got on eBay (and I can put the store credit towards my DSi savings ;))

Bought: Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land (NDS), for €5 of the €15 store credit I just got :)

It's official, alxbly buys too many games. :P
I'm glad you finally got Rush 2, that's probably the racer I've spent the most time on. Though this just reminds me of the pain of when my memory card got corrupted... :(

I've heard that MadWorld has a bad PAL conversion, and that they aren't offering a solution to it. So beware.

Oh yes, definitely. Though I'll need to get a few things set up in preparation for that.

Here's the line I read from the Nintendo World Report review:

"The PAL version of MadWorld does not support 60hz display mode, and has not been optimised for 50hz. As a result, it runs with borders at a lower frame rate than the North American game reviewed here."

It isn't something game-breaking I guess but I thought this kind of thing ended with the Nintendo 64.

Hmmm. I never noticed, to be honest. The framerate doesn't seem to be badly affected... 50fps PAL as opposed to 60fps NTSC doesn't matter too much when the game actually only runs at 30fps! ^_^ And the game runs at the same resolution too but without progressive scan (the borders only make up the difference between NTSC's 480 lines and PAL's 576 lines). Progressive scan would have been nice though and I ain't gonna defend a lazy conversion. Pull the socks up, Sega!

However....

None of the other consoles have this problem now because HD has set an intenational standard. Wii still seems to be the home of sloppy conversions even when it's an exclusive game. >_<

Does that mean that PAL HD televisions run at 60fps?
