I definitely agree... like basically the entire time I play GH on the DS, I yearn for a guitar controller because the stylus strum just doesn't feel precise enough. The imprecision makes full combo-ing extremely difficult. However... if ever I need to play Guitar Hero on the go (which hasn't really ever been the case), this is as good as it gets!

MAJOR BUMPAGE DANCE! Alright, I'm curious about two things. First off, this topic has spiraled into a discussion of the things you wanted to sell, alxbly. Have you gotten around to selling any of it? Have you downloaded any of your former Super NES games on the Wii VC? I remember you got Super Mario RPG around the time when it was released, did you make much progress into that? |

No. I recently re-organised things so now I have even more room. For games I'll probably never play more than once. I have a lot of what I'll call attic space because it's difficult to describe otherwise. It's easily accessible so I'm using it for storage now:![]() ![]() And I also extended the bookcases that I have my games in, so now I can store more of them: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/alxbly/GameStorage.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/alxbly/Gameshelves.jpg No rush to sell anything now... Nope, the only SNES games I've downloaded are SimCity (I didn't own this for the SNES) and Mario RPG (which I''m no further into since we last discussed it). I still don't regret selling my SNES, as I never played it and I don' feel particulary sentimental about any of it's games... except perhaps Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super Mario Kart.

Why thank you!! So photogenic, that fat one is.To tell you the truth... it's probably very slightly less futile now... as I've gotten into the unbelievable habit of actually trying out one out of every 5 or so games I buy shortly after buying them!! So yes, I've cracked open a number of these and toyed around a bit, as I had briefly mentioned in a previous post. I can even take requests, if you'd like. (Won't guarantee that I'll get very far... but kudos to you if I actually get "sucked in"!)

I thought you were also selling the stuff because you don't have the time to play them all, or do you still hope to make time someday? I like SimCity on Super NES better than the PC version because it has a few more features, but it also moves at a slower pace so it can sometimes get boring waiting for time to pass. Street Fighter II: Turbo is on the VC, are you tempted to download it? I'm kind of surprised that Super Mario Kart hasn't been released yet, I thought we'd see that around the time which Mario Kart Wii was released so it could take advantage of the hype. F-Zero was released, so it definitely isn't a problem with it using Mode 7. |

Original Burnout... you're giving me nostalgia goose bumps! That was one of the games that the Gamecube launched with here in the UK and I have happy memories of playing that, Star Wars Rogue Leader, Super Monkey Ball, Crazy Taxi and, of course, Luigi's Mansion all night long. Saints Row 2 is really good, well worth a try. And how is the DSi? I want one just for the slightly bigger screen(s). |

Well... to me personally, not really. Or... not yet, rather. I've not downloaded anything from the DSi shop channel yet (nothing strikes me as must-buy), and the camera + photo/music editors are somewhat fun to play around with... for maybe half an hour or so. Then lack of imagination kicks in. I'll let you know if/how any of this changes as time progresses though, if you're still interested. But yes, the bigger screen is a bit nicer, and it's sooooooo much more convenient to be able to adjust brightness on the fly. Speakers are noticeably better, and it's a pretty nice plus to be able to get to the DSi menu to switch out games w/o having to turn the thing off. |

Realistically, I know I'll never be able to play them all. But ownership = happiness... most of the time. I still have occasional urges to sell stuff but the bottom line is: A) I'm still not sure about selling large chunks of my collection B) I don't have the time (or motivation now) to sell the stuff Are you never tempted to sell up and use the money for something more... I dunno... more useful/helpful/grown up/socially acceptable/etc, etc, etc. ????? |

Me, not really. I don't think games are that far off from DVD's, CD's, and even books, in a sense... I partake in enjoying all the aforementioned mediums. But games are the ones I really buy to own. Not even to play. Which is halfway retarded. But the way I see it, money's meant to be spent. I see saving money as being akin to enjoying money for what it is, not what it can buy. (Would you rather have the power to buy things, or to actually have the things that money can buy?) Buying these little pieces of plastic makes me happy. So that's how teh flootcatz rolls.

I'm almost the same. But even with things like CD/DVD's/books, I still have clearouts every now and then. I don't really do that with games because I view them as a more important part of me, I guess. But... there's a few factors I'm considering now that didn't matter to me before, such as "the money I spend on games could go towards a really fantastic house/car/clothes". But I like to shop, I like buying things. And I can do that and save money every month, so that's okay. Or, that's what I tell myself before spending money. |

Not if it doesn't always make me happy. And sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I want to ditch the collection side of things and just buy stuff that I'll actually play. I don't undertand why owning games and owning new or mint condition games is so important to me. |

No to both. The DSi still contains DS hardware, it is just a hardware revision like the DS Lite. In the future there may be some games which use the camera, but there are no games (besides the downloadable ones) which require the DSi to play. The GBA SP was definitely a hardware revision. None of its features affected the actual games themselves, it wasn't required to play anything. |

I dunno... I mean, you were talking about features. Features I was assuming to be like a bigger screen, better speakers, adjusting brightness on the fly, changing games w/o turning the unit off... those don't necessitate different software, and perfectly equate to the GBA SP update, IMO. |

Well, then maybe you should try to weigh what parts of collecting games makes you happy and what parts you'd like to rid yourself of? It can be difficult to change your state of mind, but it can also be a very healthy thing to do. Perhaps you could take it one step at a time; sell off a few of the things you are considering selling and see how it feels. Do you miss them? What did you get with the money, games you'll actually play? If you miss the stuff then just buy it back, but if you find you can live without it then keep going from there. As far as owning new or mint condition games go, I think everyone just have these obsessive compulsive tendencies where they like to have things a certain way. There's not really a way to explain it, it's just how they prefer things to be. |

The GBA SP was not a successor, just like the DSi is not a successor. They are hardware revisions. There are two main factors which separate the GBA SP and DSi. First off, the GBA SP was the first GBA revision, whilst the DSi is the second DS revision. The DS Lite already covered fixing the "problems" of the DS, so a second revision isn't necessary. Secondly, the GBA SP was released about 20 months after the GBA, but the DSi is being released over five years after the DS. Therefore, the features going into the DSi would be better applied going into an actual DS successor, with more powerful hardware to allow for improved games that could also take better advantage of the DSi feature set. If you're going to go through the trouble of adding bigger screens, better speakers, internal memory, and a camera, why not go all of the way and upgrade the chip set? |

I stopped caring about that long ago. Finding many older games in mint condition has proven to be rather difficult and expensive, and I don't have the dedication for it. If it's a game I really want to play no less, I'm all the less inclined to search for a mint condition copy and will likely grab the first cheap one I can find. A couple of the GameCube games I recently bought didn't have a manual, which to Floorcat I'm sure would be BLASPHEMY! |

More new stuff:![]() Scarface: The World Is Yours (Wii) - Got this a few days ago and it's good. If anyone wants to play a decent sandbox game/GTA clone on the Wii you could do much worse than this. Seems to be the best version of the game as well. ![]() Tetris (Game Boy) - Bought for sentimental reasons and because everything was in such nice condition. It looks weird on the Game Boy Player so I'll probably need to get an original Game Boy as well. V-Rally Edition 99 (N64) - It was cheap. I've played this before and didn't think much of it, maybe a more substantial play is in order. First impressions are that it's not as bad as I remember it being. Twisted Edge Snowboarding (N64) - I was curious about this when I found out it was developed by the smae people that made Top Hear Rally and World Driver Championship. So far it seems okay-ish but everything is pretty slow. I think it might be a bad PAL conversion. I got a pile of Playstation games as well: ![]() Rage Racer (PS1) - Very similar to Ridge Racer but with much more detailed and more vertical courses... lots of steep hills, jumps and so forth. Resident Evil (PS1) - This is where it all started. It has some of the worst acting you'll ever see in a game but the gameplay is still fairly solid. Makes the eyes hurt a bit if you've played REmake first (as I did). Resident Evil Directors Cut (PS1) - Dunno what the difference is between this and the normal edition, other than a revised title screen and a difficulty select. Guess I should check Wikipedia. Ridge Racer V (PS2) - I got this for free when I bough some other games. The disc and manual are in alright condition but there's no front cover insert... although it should be easy enough to find another copy on Ebay. Resident Evil 2 (PS1) - I already own this for the Gamecube but I was curious to see what the original was like. Not much difference really. Resident Evil Survivor (PS1) - Seems decent so far but it would be a lot better if I was playing it how it's meant to be played... with a gun. I don't own a light gun for the PS1 but I'm looking out for one now. Final Doom (PS1) - Plays a lot better than I thought it would and the controls are configurable so you can assign the buttons to whatever way you prefer. I'm considering getting Doom and Doom II on the PS1 now. ![]() Extreme Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Invasion (PS1) - Another light gun game, but not as good as RE Survivor. It seems average at best.

You have a GBA SP, right? It looks fine on that. The original brick Game Boy is dirt cheap however, so if you really wanted one it would cost you hardly anything. The only thing I like about the original Game Boy is that I find it to be the most comfortable. Yeah, the PlayStation ports are the best versions after the original PC ones. But it would seem they are superfluous considering you can use your USB PS1 adapter to play the PC versions with you PlayStation controller. The PlayStation Doom contains most of the levels from Doom and Doom II, though the music has been replaced by a more atmospheric soundtrack similar to Doom 64. Looks like you've further expanded your Resident Evil collection. How many more to go before you own them all? |
