I went to a couple of car boot sales today & picked up a few games including a boxed copy of starfox 64 including a rumble pack & import adaptor for £4,which i thought was quite reasonable.Unfortunately, ive never owned an import adaptor for the n64 & never used one, although this one seems to work ok.
Will it work ok with all ntsc games?

Went to a different flea market today, called the Barn Yard. There were a few rare games that I didn't pick up, like Shadowgate 64 for about $5. Instead of getting that, I wound up acquiring Command & Conquer ($5) and Elmo's Letter Adventure ($8).

no, not ALL of them.
The adapter manufacturers were in a constant battle with Nintendo as they kept changing the CIC chips used in N64 carts to prevent gray import.
So you always needed the latest adapter AND a recent local cartridge to play the latest Japanese or US games.
AFAIK there never was an adapter that supported all games without problems.

reasonable? thats really really cheap... 2 quid for a boxed gamed and a quid each for two pieces of useful hardware is always a great deal!

yeah, nice finds Alice! great price too :)

BTW.. can anyone help me identify this Bandai figure? It is not a kit but a pre-painted PVC model with articulated limbs & head.

Posted Image Posted Image
Ooo nice catch there! I have an Imperialdramon figure that can transform from dragon mode to fighter mode. As a Digimon toy collector, my advice is to buy ANY transforming digimon toy you can find if it's cheap. The transforming ones are always worth a lot more than the normal figures. (The transforming Omnimon goes for up to $200 on eBay!)

dont worry, ive already decided to buy any mildly interesting looking toy / action figures i can find, in praticular anything game-related (so the Power Rangers are in!).
ive always got my spyglass with me to check for any imprints and copyright notices, just in case i come across something interesting.
trouble is finding this sort of stuff. they've never been as popular here as in the States or indeed Japan.
This one was only 1 euro.. it is very much played iwth and not 'mint' at all (no weapons!) but for that kind of money i'd buy anything :)

Searching through boxes full of Happy Meal toys and crappy Smurfs just to find the odd gem like this is exactly my idea of fun... i love the hunt!

I forgot to post this, but last Thursday, I got a PlayStation 3, a controller, and 14 games:

Dead Space
Devil May Cry 4
God of War 3
Heavy Rain
Infamous
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Ninja Gaiden 3
Prototype
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

And also some PSN games.

All of this cost me $0.00!! It was a donation from one of my good friends. He got kicked out of his house on his birthday, his car got backed up into while it was parked, and his girlfriend cheated on him a half dozen times over the time of all this. So I let him stay with me for a few weeks, I drove him around everywhere until he got his car repaired, and I helped him get through his jacked up relationship with some advice and stuff. To repay his thanks, he gave me all of the stuff he didn't need (he now lives in one of those monthly hotels and has no need for video games) like his James Bond DVD and Blu-Ray collection, Pacific and Band of Brothers all on Blu-Ray, Guitar Hero 5, Rock Band Beatles, and Fallout New Vegas all for the 360, and all of his PS3 stuff (he has two PS3's and he gave me his PAL version since he lived in Australia for six months). What sucks about having a PAL PS3 is that it can't play DVDs, most Blu-Rays, and it can't do PS2 or PS1 games. It IS region free with all PS3 games though, which is good because the only NTSC PS3 games I have are Heavy Rain and God of War 3. He was going to give me God of War 1&2 collection, but he couldn't find it. Anywho, my PSN is MotleyPriest111; just like my Xbox Live GamerTag.

I'm not quite sure if it takes PAL. There is this switch on the back.... not sure what it does. I don't have a PAL game to try out. All I have is Zero Wings for the Mega Drive and it plays on the "real" Genesis.

I've been playing NES, SNES, and Genesis games since I got the Retron 3. The three big pluses of the system, is the ability to use original controllers, S-video for SNES and Gen, and all three systems in the space of a SNES console. Being a clone system means it is not perfect in its ability to replicate the original consoles. The SNES is the best of the three in this system, very close to perfect.

Right now I have Gradius 3 in the SNES slot.

I can't find anything on it being region free. However, I heard other consoles have a issue with Super Mario RPG as I've heard other clones have it....

The Retron apparently supports orignal NES/SNES/Genesis controllers, Heard the wireless one they give you isn't so great.

The original RetroN 3 pads are IR like your TV remote. Which immediately makes them problematic. You must keep the front of the controller pointed at the system at all times, yeah like every gamer can do that. And there is a limit as to how far away you can get. I was at a distance of like four or five feet. There is a lag that gives you a sort-of floaty gameplay control feel. I tried mine on Ms Pacman, some driving games, and a few shooters. Games where control would be an issue. Needless to say, the gameplay was less than satisfying. More like frustrating, especially with the game continuously pausing for some reason. It was like the board inside the controller was either bending or somehow pressing the buttons was making contact with the start button. The buttons move and are shaky shaky, both controllers are preasigned 1 and 2. I probably need to open one of the controllers and see just what it looks like on the inside.

The only thing that saves this console is the ability to use the original pads for each system. And doing that, I like the results. Makes a good little system that way. I am satisfied with it.

Those wireless controllers are very evil. I suppose it's as effective as the IR multiplayer on the old Gameboys before. So many issues with this dumb controller, but I guess that's why they have ports for the original controllers... because they have no idea how to make controllers.

Next on the list is trying to slap a 32X on the Retron 3.

Upgraded 1080 Snowboarding to CIB status and added 5 cheap Wii games to my collection: Indiana Jones - The Staff Of Kings, Spore - Helden, Trackmania, PDC World Championship Darts, Chicken Little - Ace In Action. All those at only 2,50 each...
Also spotted Sin & Punishment 2 and Monster Hunter Tri for the same rediculous price of 2,50 euro and even GoldenEye for only 15 !!!!
Now you know why Nintendo is hesitant about releasing Xenoblade et al. in the Western markets. "hardcore" Wii games just dont sell.

Also sold a blue Gameboy Camera and a GB Classic console to a budding chiptune musician and made a very healthy profit.

I think the problem here in the US is that "hardcore" gamers tend to pirate (steal) rather than buy.

This is exactly what's happened in the music industry; because of all the thieves very little quality music gets released here in the States anymore. In fact, Prince recently announced that he's not going to release another album because of pirating. Sadly, I see video games going the same way. ;_;

I don't mind paying for my video games and I do so cheerfully because I don't want the industry to die.

i wouldnt compare music to video games. music is just way different, you dont need to sit and listen. you can drive, work, walk, eat, play outside, do some home cleaning, be on computer, and so on while enjoying it. video games, you have to sit and only do that. the music industry is still producing good stuff, but for very some specific musical taste. the radio sutff you hear 20 times a day is what is killing it. plus the artist are getting ripped off from the distributor. i could bet 100$ that if every album would be sold 5$ brand new, pirating would disappear. same for video games. there's a shitload of crappy games being made, still they're selling it 60$ and 2 months later, they're 30-40$. gamers are pissed about that and just wait not to loose their precious money. they'll wait the good game to spent their hard earned money on.

i try to avoid the pirating stuff, but i can't afford everything i like. i make choices and what i can't afford or feel the price asking is totally stupid, i pirate it. if its really goddamn good after i listened/played it, i'll go buy it.

I saw the orange spice japanese gamecube boxed for $75.00. Also I saw neon genesis evangelist boxed for n64 for $49.99. Also saw a boxed japanese megaman X3 for a lot of money along with boxed X1, X2, and 7. I also saw shenmue 2 for dreamcast, and seamen.
