if i thought, those pokemon really were trash, i probably wouldn't have got 'em ^^

great thing is: there was an expansion pak in the console, the console is even working and i got a nice replacement bit for the jumper pak section. ;)

@blakesleven: you're right. didn't know that it isn'd that cheap to get on ebay before i got home, so all in all good deals.

but after all we agree about mario bros X_D

Today my collecting begins! I bought an RGB modded N64 on eBay from a very helpful seller. They're also throwing in a copy of Diddy Kong Racing so that I will have something to play on it when it arrives. :)

I also ordered a 64Drive flash cart. I presume that'll take a good few weeks to get to me so hopefully DKR will tide me over 'til then.

I notice there isn't much talk about flash carts around here. Are they frowned upon? I understand that most folk here seem to be avid collectors.

yes, if they are used to play copyrighted ROMS (like all N64 games), i personally frown upon them. But then i'm a collector at heart and just love to hold the real thing in my hands. But a ZIP file with a gazillion ROMS just doesnt excite me at all.

Even on a limited budget, it is quite easy to build up a small collection of good games. That's how i started a long long time ago.

They could be cool to experiment with. For example, loading a modded game onto the flash cart and playing it on a real N64. There's plenty of modded roms floating around the internet. One of the most interesting ones in my opinion would be the combination game of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. It has trouble running correctly on a computer, so imagine how it'll be on an N64.

agreed. As a programmer, i use a DS flash cart and a SNES copy box to run my own homemade games and other programs and i have loads of fun doing that. But i dont use them for copyrighted games. Heck, i dont have enough time to play all the games i've bought, never mind all those ROMS!

Same here.

The N64 is an excellent system for the budget minded collector who doesn't mind buying unboxed games.

Don't get me wrong. I haven't bought the cart just to play pirates on. I really enjoy the F-Zero games and I really want to play the modded ROMs on real hardware. As Alice Lawless said there are plenty of mods out there for games from Goldeneye to Super Mario 64.

I mentioned in another thread I fully intend to buy a full collection of unboxed PAL games but now that I've got an RGB NTSC 'N64 coming I'll need to get games for that too! I'm already swithering on just forgoing the PAL collecting just now and just going for a full NTSC unboxed collection. Is that doable without remortgaging my house?

As far as playing ROMs goes I feel it's a little academic with regards to the morality of it on a defunct system (no trolling intended) but I have learned the lesson from my younger days that having access to countless ROMs really takes away the enjoyment of playing games and the happiness of finally getting that 'one' game you've wanted for ages. So, don't worry - I won't be looking for ROM links from you guys. :P

I've noticed that my friends who pirate games rarely get the same thrill from actually playing them as I do from playing the real honest-to-goodness cartridge versions.

the 64drive unit is a very attractive thing i wanna get, not because i dont wanna buy/collect the n64 carts, but more of protecting them. since i want mint/minty CIB games in the future, and we all know that the boxes are very cheaply made, every time you open it, you migh break it because its so damn fragile. its more a conservation tool than a pirate unit for me. i do enjoy playing the real thing, but if it protects my collection from being ripped/broke/teared, then yes i will use it more than the real thing. the unit s very well made and as of now, there's only 1 game that doesnt work across US/EUR/JAP region; JFG because it used a different CIC chip.

i'd answer this with a clear YES.

i'm a simple student without a real income but i've put so much time into collecting that i know the average price of every
PAL game at ebay and can make good fleamarket catches like that. on this way it is quite easy to collect with almost no money, especially if you go for carts only.

That's good to know. I need to start going back to car boot sales and the like. There are a ton of charity shops near me but they never seem to have N64 games. Thanks to Sony's success about the only games I can find are for Playstation and PS2 with the occasional Xbox game. It's strange as there seem to be N64 consoles quite regularly... just no games!

I'm going to dig out my Dreamcast collection and catalogue it properly with the intention of doing trades. I never play my DC anymore so I may as well swap the games for something I do want to play. :)

I picked up Metal Gear Solid on the GBC and Super Mario Sunshine along with 5 of those plastic cases for original and GBC games. I saw a mint copy of Majora's Mask Collectors Edition CIB at another store. It makes me wish I didn't buy the other stuff so I could have gotten it. ;_;

IKR!!! I saw it laying there and thought they were gonna want like $20 (that GW is pricey) but I was surprised when I saw it. Thanks for the offer but im trying to either save my money for a new truck and car and the little bit I put towards games goes to my N64 NIB collection :D.

Today my Tatsunoko vs. Capcom arcade stick for the Nintendo Wii arrived. I purchased it because Amazon had them on sale for just ~ $28 with shipping. That's much cheaper than I can make an arcade stick so I snapped it up. Besides, fighting games are one of my favorite genres and this stick will also be compatible with the Wii U.

I just checked and I still see the TvC arcade fightstick selling for around $25 on Amazon but I have no idea how much longer it's gonna last. I ordered mine about 10 days ago so they must have a pretty good supply of them but if you want one you better order ASAP.

It's really an amazing value when you consider all you get for the price. I tried it out a little and it plays almost as well as my Xbox 360 stick that I modded with Sanwa parts.

Fleamarkets and bootsales are often very disappointing. You have to get up in the middle of the night, ride 15 miles through the rain on your moped, buy a ticket to get in and you never know if you will actually find anything at all for your collection. But every once in a while, all that hardship and suffering pays off and you hit the jackpot. This morning i was very happy to pick up two N64 games and a Megadrive cartridge i didnt have yet and a gray NES Zapper. I was about to leave the fleamarket when i noticed a boxed lightgun for the Philips CDi system. Alarm bells started ringing in my head, ive been looking for a CDi player for years. And lo and behold, there was a CDi player on sale, complete with cables, joypad and the gun and a bunch of discs. Seller wanted 25 euro for the whole lot. The boxed lightgun by itself is already worth more so I didnt even try to haggle with him :)

When i got home and got all the stuff from my bags i noticed a strange but familiar looking device with two NES connectors amongst the cdi stuff. This turned out to be the receiver for the Acclaim wireless NES controller set. Free bonus item :yeah:

Nintendo 64 Mortal Kombat 4, Worms Armageddon, Jet Force Gemini (trade)
Megadrive Mortal Kombat
NES gray Zapper, Acclaim wireless receiver
CDI Philips CDi player, joypad, Peacekeeper gun (mint in box) and some games (all CIB):

  • Hotel Mario available for trade
  • Link - Faces Of Evil apparently, this one can sell for $350!
  • Lucky Luke
  • Asterix
  • Thunder In Paradise
  • Tetsuo Gaiden
  • Chaos Control
  • Who Shot Johnny Rock?
  • Family Games 1
  • Family Games 2
  • International Tennis Open
  • Micro Machines
  • Burn Cycle
  • Flashback
  • Namco Arcade Classics
  • Lingo
  • Rise Of The Robots
  • Whack A Bubble
  • Striker Pro
  • Pac Panic
  • The Apprentice
  • Atlantis The Last Resort
  • Secret Mission
  • Video Speedway
  • Space Ace
  • Mad Dog McCree
  • Domino
  • Battleship
  • Philips Interactive Encyclopedia (big box)
  • Comptons Interactive Encyclopedia
  • several demo discs.
