I know it wasn't up very long because I did an advance search of nintendo 64 and set it for Time:newly listed and it wasn't there and then I did it again about 10 min later. I saw it and knew it was really rare so I actually had to buy it using our regular bank account not the one I had money set aside for this in because DDR2nite drained that one Needless to say my wife was super excited to see a charge that high for "A stupid video game!" |

I wouldn't mind getting a Jusco set at some point, but IMO $600 is an ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS ammount of money to pay for one system. That kind of thing makes me rethink continuing my collection. |

Controller Collecting Extraordinaire
|
Well, a couple of things here: Firstly, the Jusco system is the hardest system to find complete in box. As far as we know, there has only been about 10 full sets seen (Lithium017, Brodieman, and myself have one) and they pop up on EBay maybe once a year - if at all. Secondly, $600 is what Brodieman was willing to pay for that set - which I'm sure would've eventually been scooped up by someone else but at the end of the day, that is a pretty high price for a very exclusive item. I got mine for roughly $250 after including shipping, and Lithium017 probably got his for under $300 as well. It just depends on your luck and who/where you are buying it from. I'm surprised that THIS is making you rethink continuing your collection - there was that Hello Mac controller that went for $700-$800 I believe

Honestly, I really don't think you can talk about how much something collectible costs because it only costs what someone is willing to pay for it. So some days a Jusco might be worth $0.00. In my eyes $600 was fair and I would gladly pay it again. I don't collect based on how much things are worth because I never plan on selling any of this. So prices to me are relative to how much I want something, not a number someone got from adding the cost of every time they see that item sell and averaging it out. Prices are also relative to how much money you have. You think if Bill Gates collected he would even give $600 a second thought on something he wanted? Now if there were tons of these things lying around for $100 and I paid $600 I could see your point. Anyways, my point is, don't worry about what I pay worry about what you're willing to pay. |

I just shop around for the best deals, that way I have a little extra to put toward something else that might be a little harder to find. It's just funny how something RARE pops up, and it's a race to see who can get it first, and at the REDICULOUSLY HIGH price the seller lists it for. You both are very right. I'm sure another collector would have snagged it, and the great thing is, they will have a chance to snag it at a very high price, because this has set the price just that much higher, so now the ebay sellers who already put the crazy starting prices on their listings will now raise their prices. This all has just made me rethink, if I really want to continue to fight for the best prices, to continue my collection. I originally wanted to collect the N64 controllers that were sold in the USA, and I am glad I set that as my goal, because as hard as it seems to find the E3 controller, I don't think I could actually convince myself to spend the $$$ on it, if I got the chance. Plus I am on an extremely low budget, with a house, credit card debt, and not the greatest paying job, so it is a MUST for me to find things at a bargain. Oh well. To each their own. I didn't mean to offend anyone, and I'm sorry if I did. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Hello Mac controller was the first thing that caused me to think about moving on to something else. Well, no offense to you, but you are the typical newcomer with guns blazing and spending cash like it's burning a hole in your pocket. Don't take that the wrong way, it's not a bad thing. It's just typical of the new collector, and I was once that way myself. Once you become a veteran, pricing trends are EVERYTHING. Who cares about disposable money, most of us in our late 20s with college degrees got plenty of cash. It's not about how much you can afford to spend, it's about getting the best bang for your buck, and making those dollars stretch as far as possible. Bill Gates could afford to drop $1,000,000 on that $600 system you just bought, but do you think he would? Of course not. Rich people don't get rich by spending carelessly, they get rich by being very wise with their money. I don't criticize anyone's spending habits, you earn your money and you can spend it however you'd like. But collecting is pretty boring when you just buy everything at record highs, and there's no fun in that. And once you complete that goal, then what? Branch out and keep doing it again? The fun is in the hunt. There is absolutely nothing more rewarding in this hobby than finding a rare game at an absurdly cheap price. Those are the finds that keep you going. There comes a point in time where almost every collector needs to overpay for something. We all have rare wants, and we all have wants that are probably are #1 or #2 priority, above all other items. Or, you get 1 game away from completing your set, and you have to win the next one no matter what the cost. It happens. But that's not something to brag about, it's just a fact of life. |

I'm a little confused on how anyone can tell someone how to collect or what the fun part of collecting is??? As far as bragging, I never did that. All I did was post pics of the system. I never mentioned what I payed or anything like that and how does overpaying for this one system all the sudden mean I don't look for bargains? I go to swap meets, I go to garage/yard sales, I go to goodwill, and I use craigslist. That's how I found my Daiei Hawk for $200 and an unused boxed controller for $100, by looking around. You have no idea what my spending habits are or even how they effect me. Honestly, I find it really annoying that I should have to justify what I spend on anything. As far as "Rich people don't get rich by spending carelessly, they get rich by being very wise with their money." There is nothing careless about how I spend my money. I skimmed a little money off the top of a 6 year investment just so I could start this collection. I own both of my vehicles, my parents house, my house and everything in it. So please don't try to tell me I'm not financially responsible and just so you know putting "no offense" in front of something, doesn't make it less offensive. Please stop trying to take a dump on my Jusco parade and just let me enjoy it |

You have excellent taste Brodieman and are obviously a good dude in life (see recent adoption) and around here. There have been a few others who came in guns blazing and then pulled a Kaiser Soze ("like that, poof, gone"). So that I'm sure that was what was referenced . . . . You took my post too personal and completely missed my point. My point is that there are definitely market values, while your original post made it seem like there was no such thing. If you choose to ignore market values because you never intend to sell, that's your prerogative. But that's not reality. And us veterans of the hobby have seen tons of people sell when they claimed they never would... just look at Quagga and his controllers. That's why we're skeptical when anyone mentions it. No one plans to sell in the beginning, but times change for some people. You don't have to be a reseller to use values to your advantage. What if you pick up a duplicate of a rare controller? Maybe you can trade it for other items you want. Or just sell it to another collector. That's where market values do come into play. That was my whole problem with your post, not you or your collection. Just your thinking on market worth, when there is plenty of sales data out there. Collecting didn't start yesterday. Why don't we settle it down now chaps. We're all on this forum for one reason right!? The love of the N64 and all that is included. Really, who cares what someone paid for what. If you want something that bad and can pay for it, then why the hell not I say. Let's just agree to disagree and get back on topic. Picked up FIFA 95 on the mega drive today, its kinda sh!te but fun sh!te Also loving all the new pickups guys.

I can't see how you would think I wouldn't think about market value at all? Of course I consider it and use it as a starting point. Anyways, Clarky is right and I joined this site to learn about collecting the N64 and because the people here seemed genuinely nice. |

I managed to pick up a very nice job lot for 0.99$ because the seller did not properly describe his merchandise. He listed it as follows: "Nintendo Promotional Item Lot: Brochures for N64, Game Boy, Wii, Gamecube, etc." Not very exciting (except for the N64 brochure of course) or tempting until you click the link and read the full description:
The Killer Cuts audio CD is a promotional soundtrack album released and packaged with Killer Instinct on the Super Nintendo in 1995 and was also sold thru Nintendo Power magazine. It usually sells for 10 to 15$. A very welcome addition to my small collection of OST cd's Mind you: i paid a lot more in shipping charges but it's still a pretty good deal IMHO. The postie also delivered a package from our fellow forummer clarky_n64 with two Nintendo 64 carts : WWF War Zone and All-Star Baseball 2000 Edited by Mk II, Apr 25 2012, 07:49 AM.

I got some new games lately, noob question... I want to post a picture in my posts, how do you do it? I see the box in the control panel but it wants a URL. Is this the only way to post photos on this board? If so who should I use to host the pictures? My concern is that many of these photo hosting sites remove things and can create lots of dead links and photos? Any advide would be groovy! Edited by Vekoma64, Apr 26 2012, 07:15 AM.
