Well I went to the huge flea market in Mass that I always went to when I was a kid. I was just completely disgusted with the prices there. Everyone wanted $40-$50 for a basic console/controller! There were absolutely no deals so im pretty bummed but I guess i'll just have to go to mine more often. Too bad I gotta work this Saturday.

This title variant always puzzles me. How's this for a weird incestuous love triangle -

Posted Image

All three titles are made by the French company Ubisoft.

Racing Simulation - Monaco Grand Prix is an English game (UKV)
Monaco Grand Prix - Racing Simulation 2 is a European release (This box is in French and Italian) but the game instructions are in 6 languages (including English) and this game is exactly the same as Racing Simulation - Monaco Grand Prix , odd right? Nope, it gets weirder.

Then there's Racing Simulation 2 which is the sequel to the above game(s), but as far as I know it was never released in the UK, nor can I find one in English. Hmmm.... my head hurts!

I could rattle on further but I think I need to lie down now.
It just does not make sense to me either, why did they do this i PAL??, as far as i know they didnt do it in NTSC.

I did know about Racing Simulation 2, but is it a different game or is it the same game just with a different label like the other two?? :eh:

It is definitely the sequel to the first 2, but I'd love someone to tell me it was actually released in English. I have only ever found it in German. But either, it still doesn't add up!

That is an excellent deal, they generally go for about $10-$15 each on Ebay for complete black label copies like those. Sweet grab!

the game code (MG) is identical for all four releases.
Racing Sim 2 is probably a German-language release (re. the D in the catalog number)

NO, I had no clue :D .

That is an amazing collection. That is pretty close to EVERY piece that I am missing from my collection.

I just can't bring myself to pay the prices that most of those bring, even if they were all loose.

Just the OCD part in me, but the Hello Mac looks a bit dirty and needs some detailed cleaning. But I know that not everyone cracks open every one of their controllers and spends 30 minutes going through a 25-point inspection and cleaning it inside and out with q-tips + cleaning solution.

Congrats on obtaining that controller (on behalf of our community) :)

Racing Sim 2 is probably a German-language release (re. the D in the catalog number)

And the points go to Mark! I've just tried all 3 carts and just couldn't believe it!

All three games are exactly the same! NUS-NMGD-NOE is just the German version.

The NUS-NMGP-UKV has exactly the same menu and gameplay as the European NUS-NMGP-FAH. It even says Racing Simulation 2 on the title screen. Both games can be played in 4 different languages.

So anyway, beyond that, it is still a bit of a mystery to me why they had to give it three different names.

Does anyone know of a Racing Simulation 1 game (N64 or otherwise), that this could be a sequel to?

I did read about this title mish-mash somewhere on the internets but cant find the source ATM.
If i remember correctly it was a non-N64 game, possibly PS1 and/or PC platform?

wikipedia

Monaco Grand Prix known in Europe as Monaco Grand Prix: Racing Simulation 2 is a Formula one racing game for the Nintendo 64, Sony Playstation, and Sega Dreamcast. It was released in 1999. The game is based on the Formula One World Championship, but does not have the licence to use drivers names, official cars etc. (The licence was held by Video System at the time who made F-1 World Grand Prix and F-1 World Grand Prix II.) The game does however have a licence to use Formula One's official sponsors; Schweppes and Castrol among others[citation needed]. This helps to add to the authenticity of the game.

The sequel to F1 Racing Simulation recreates the 1997 season, featuring 17 authentic tracks, 11 teams and cars with their 22 drivers. The Monaco license is used, although the teams themselves are not licensed. .

I see! Good work! :yeah:

It does however mean I have accidentally collected a game I already had, but I do love having the different main title derivatives.

I'm looking to get Mia Hamm Soccer 64 (NTSC only) to complete my WLS title quandrant!
...in fact, just for the fun of it I just got one off ebay.com

One of many more accidental NTSC purchases no doubt...

there has been much discussion about the 'FAH' code but they were distributed with French / Dutch manuals so in my opinion it stands for France And Holland.
Now i think about it... these games were also on sale in Belgium where they speak French and Dutch (well, sort of...).
Could the origin of this code be a spelling mistake, as it really should be France Belgium Holland !

AFAIK a France-only release (usually with French screen text) would get the 'FRA' code.

NOE = Nintendo of Europe == a German release, often also distributed in Benelux, Scandinavia, Austria and Switzerland.
