Nice collection there. Secret of Mana is worth a few bob now....especially CIB. I had a lovely copy of that back in the day - got it for £7 or something. Played it for a few hours - decided I didn't like it and traded it in. What an idiot. Atari collection....very modest. I have a couple more games than I have pictured here CIB but I got a Harmony cart so I'm being very selective about what CIB games I want - only my absolute favourites. 1. woody 2600 with controllers. Spoiler: click to toggle 2. Atari 2600 games CIB (I also have Video Pinball and Video Olympics - need to add pics of those): Spoiler: click to toggle 3. Atari 7800 console with Asteroids game built in (which is brilliant by the way - best home version I have played) Spoiler: click to toggle 4. Some 7800 games CIB.I've also got Joust and Tower Toppler CIB. Have the splendid Pacman Collection Homebrew cart too. Spoiler: click to toggle Edited by davyK, Aug 7 2013, 03:30 PM.

PS1 games: pt.1 (inc. Castlevania Symphony of the Night - with artwork booklet and soundtrack CD - worth a few quid) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.2 (Power Diggerz is well worth a look - lovely game that uses every button on the controller) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.3 (two exquisite games here - Vib Ribbon that generates levels from any music CD and Bishi Bashi - which manages to outweird WarioWare! Puchi Carat comes with a paddle controller and is a fusion of Bust-a-Move and Breakout) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.4 (have 2 copies for Ridge Racer 4 for linkup gaming - on the lookout for a 2nd copy of Wipeout 3SE (exclusive to PAL)) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.5 (inc. disc only copies of Kurushi and Kurusi Final - very hard to find in the wild, never mind CIB) Spoiler: click to toggle Edited by davyK, Aug 11 2013, 07:49 AM.

Megadrive games (don't have many of these) pt.1 Spoiler: click to toggle pt.2 (JPN game - Block Out which is 3D tetris) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.3 (JPN version of New Zealand Story. Have since also picked up Micro Machines 1 and Micro machines Military to complete the set) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.4 (US version of Space Invaders is nice. Fantasia is an awful game - avoid unless you are going for a complete set!) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.5 (4 player adaptor for use with Mega Bomberman, US version of Frogger looks pixel perfect) Spoiler: click to toggle

It's a really nice game - technically very impressive too. My MD is modded with region and 50/60 select switches and it also has RGB SCART - this transforms the PAL Megadrive into a pretty amazing console which I didn't really like that much back in the day. MD PAL games were crippled as they received no work on them at all - even big titles like Sonic got piss poor conversions. That's good news for me because it means they play perfectly at 60Hz. I have noticed that changing the region switch even on a PAL game will sometimes give me the Japanese title screen - Toki in PAL mode turns into JuJu in Japan mode!! The level layouts are different on MD version from the arcade - it feels like an arrange mode. Apparantly it's the same level layout as that used for DS version. PS2 games....same drill not complete - but close. My retro compilation pack photos are missing for some reason (Taito Legends etc.) pt.1 Sky Odyssey is worth a look if you like Pilotwings - little gem of a game. Kuri Kuri looks interesting but it got a crap PAL port - huge borders which puts me off. I also have the Dreamcast version of Rez but I like having both versions to compare - not much between them really though the DC version works with the VGA box Spoiler: click to toggle pt.2 including the vastly overrated GTA - found it a complete bore-athon - but I suppose I'm in the minority. Ico is really lovely - the simple act of hand-holding gets more across that half a gigabyte of cut scenes. Spoiler: click to toggle pt.3 sports - I tend to go for golf and tennis games in the main. VT2 is nice but I have that on Dreamcast (with the arcade sticks) so this is a bit redundant but it's nice to have all the same. Tiger Woods on the Wii - 2010, 11 and 12 support motion plus and blow older golf games out of the water now. I guess the PS3 Move versions have better graphics but the Wii version has all the courses on the disc and you don't have to pay extra fot them Can't believe that the 360 Kinect version is as good as it can't detect wrist roll the way Motion Plus and PS Move can. Still - sometimes I just like to sit on my arse and play a golf game so older games are worth having.Spoiler: click to toggle pt.4 - racing games (prefer arcade style so GT4 hasn't had much playtime even though it seems to be quite brilliant as I can't be arsed with all the grinding to unlock stuff. Outrun C to C is brilliant) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.5 - music games (manual missing from Parappa 2 annoyingly...Amplitude is a spectacular game - and doesn't need fake plastic instruments either!! I have Space Channel on Dreamcast but I like to have sets (Have PS2 and DC Rez too) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.6 "brain games" - have a soft spot for these. The Board game collection isn't up to much but has the odd game that interests me. Spoiler: click to toggle pt.7 Three crackers here - Mercury is now redundant because I have the brilliant Wii version but this is still a nice game. Mojo is an excellent low budget roll-em-up. Flipnic takes the pinball genre and busts it wide open with impossible tables. It has really lovely presentation polish too - well worth a look. Spoiler: click to toggle pt.8 (metal Slugs and Neo Contra) Metal Slug on PS2 is brilliant - especially for PAL gamers. They have 60Hz modes and MS3 has exclusive mini-games that are fun so that one is probably pick of the bunch. Avoid the PAL version of Metal Slug Anthology - it is a lazy 50Hz pile of with laggy controls - go for these instead.Spoiler: click to toggle pt.9 (fighting games) SFA Anthology is really nice - has loads of extra modes to unlock such as Gold editions and such like that I don't really know too much about as I am crap at this type of game. I am no afficiando but I do like my fighters to be 2D for some reason. Spoiler: click to toggle pt.10 (shmups - these ones didn't get the best PAL ports - 50Hz. Gradius III+IV and Shikigami 2 are still nice games though - the rest are so-so.) Spoiler: click to toggle pt.11 (more shmups - good ports this time - 60Hz and TATE options except for Tengai which is a horizontal shooter) I picked up Raiden3 for a few quid but I have heard this PAL version is pretty rare. Space Invaders arrived in the arcades 1978-9 - I was 12 (!!!!!!) and I still love that old game.Spoiler: click to toggle pt.12 (reason I got a PS2 - Gradius V and RType Final - again - good PAL ports - 60Hz mode) Both spectacular games - though quite different. RType Final has around 100 ships to unlock and once you unlock all the levels the score attack mode is the Gran Turismo of shmups. Spoiler: click to toggle pt.13 (puzzle games - all good ones here - Detonator was a nice find - cheap too. The Fruit Machine game is just OK and not really a puzzle game but it's interesting enough. I have several versions of Tetris , Puyo and Bust-a-Move as they are a weakness of mine but these are fine additions. The PS2 version of Tetris Worlds is missing the option to switch off infinite rotate time which the GC and OldBox versions do have. That option really was a mistake to include as it breaks the game for many people) Spoiler: click to toggle

I haven't updated my current collection list in quite some time so I spent a few hours on my vacation cataloging my games over on GameFAQs. I've been eyeing this tantalizing Animal Crossing New Leaf promo poster at a local retailer for over 2 months. Today i noticed one of the corners was torn off and that the poster was hanging half-mast, just waiting for further damage to occur. So i decided bold action was required in order to save it for posterity (no pun intended). I stepped in, asked permission to take it home and the sales-person agreed! AC:NL has quickly become one of my all-time favourites but outside Japan it's quite hard to find any merchandise or promo stuff for this franchise so i'm very happy to have added this to my collection of promo posters. ![]() |

indeed... i was browsing in this shop that has a bin with freebie posters of varying quality. They can't hang up every promo poster they get so a lot of them end up in that bin. I spotted several Windwaker posters and asked if perhaps i could take one. "Sure, take two if you like. Did you see the Castlevania set? You can have that too if you want it" He must have seen how happy that made me because he said "if you like that Zelda poster so much, you'll certainly love this one" He went in the back and returned with the huge Link Between Worlds poster. Yeah, i've been lucky lately. The Mario 3D World keychains and furry sleeve and now these posters. It's like Christmas has come early this year Edited by Mk II, Dec 16 2013, 12:53 PM.

Here's one thing that's happened that might surprise any longtime members: I got a PlayStation 2. Back in early 2012 I had some inheritance money, and I wanted to expand my options by buying a new system. After some research, I walked into a GameStop with interest in buying a PlayStation 3... but then I saw how cheap PS2 systems had gotten. Looking over the PS2 section, the games were super cheap as well. From there, it was an easy choice to make. I currently have exactly 60 PS2 games, and it all cost me about as much as a PS3 system by itself would have cost. Stuff like this really makes me rethink buying new releases and new systems when the older stuff gets this cheap, and that new stuff will probably end up down here anyway. About a month ago, GameStop began liquidating their remaining stock of PS2 games to get rid of them for good, and marked everything except systems as 75% off. A lot of good stuff was gone in the initial rush, but I still scored 25 games this way. None of them have cases so they don't photograph well, and I had to break my policy of not buying games without a case, but when stuff's 50 cents it's kind of hard to argue. Anyways... I didn't mean to talk that much. The pic is below, and to see what all the discs are, my full list is here. Spoiler: click to toggle

Last week i broke the circle pad on my 3DS XL so i called Tech Support and made an appointment to bring it in. It's out of the standard 1 year Nintendo warranty but here in Euroland the seller of electronic goods (ie. the shop, not the manufacturer) has to offer a two year warranty. Because the shop who sold it to me has since gone out of business the folks at Nintendo kindly agreed to extend their warranty and cover the cost of the repair. But they were in the middle of moving to a new location (still in my hometown and even closer to my home!) so we agreed to postpone the operation for a week. This morning i went to their new HQ and i must say it looks so much better. The waiting room is much larger, has 3DS and Wii U demo pods and a gorgeous life-size Link statue (Twilight Princess style). There are four display cases showing off all the Nintendo consoles & handhelds and one game per platform (Majora's Mask for the N64) and even some Hanufada cards. While i was waiting i couldn't help but notice that they we're demoing Mario Kart 8 in the next room which had a large glass door. I watched it for a while and it looked amazing... very detailed, smooth framerate, nice animations... that game is going to be GOOD. Anywoo, when my 3DS was ready i asked the tech guy if i could take one of the Pokemon sticker sheets that were lying around. "Sure, i think i've got some other stickers as well... wait a minute". He came back with a bunch of much cooler Super Smash Bros. Brawl stickers.. woot! "Can i take two so i can trade with my buddies?" "No problem". ![]() ![]() |
