So here's what I have for the original Xbox.

I guess it's never really been rated or let's say regarded as one of the more popular type of gaming consoles, but I've enjoyed a fair number of games on this system. And then of course there's the added plus of the fact that it's a great system to run emulators on.

@ Vyothric,

Nice that you have the two Zelda games for the GBC.
I'm missing the box for Oracle of Ages. Just can't find a loose box for the longest time. :(

I see you've also got a Sega Game Gear.
Haven't turned mine on in quite some time. Too afraid that the all too common sound capacitor issues will have affected my unit as well. It's better not knowing.

And you also have a Saturn. Very nice!
A bunch of good games on this system. Quite underrated, in my opinion.
BTW, what is that controller to the right of the pic? 'Sega Saturn Explorer'? Is it any good?

funny you mention that because recently I was thinking to actually get one and just the other day I was having a look at some vids and reviews on it, and it looks like quite a cool setup to own.
Problem is these now aren't exactly cheap and the shipping cost to SA would also be quite hefty.

I'm not sure I ever actually got round to completing Oracle of Ages & Seasons - I'll have to re-play them. I remember I picked them up on holiday in Canada....9 and a bit years ago.

The only problem I ever had with the Game Gear was the D-Pad, which I had to have replaced many many years ago.

The Saturn was one of the main things that got me re-playing all my old games when I started playing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 again. I didn't have a good gaming TV so I got one and when I got the TV I really wanted to play my N64 games  The controller is perhaps a bit weird as the L and R buttons are on the back rather than the top. I prefer it to the standard controller, but I still ended up playing UMK3 on an emulator as I find it much easier to use the keyboard.

So I haven't mentioned any of my clone console systems yet.
I don't believe I saw any others here mentioning these types of systems in their collection lists, so I didn't either.

But anyway, clone wise I do have a few systems. You guys are all probably aware of the usual canditates like the Retro Duo and the Yobo line of retro systems like the FC Twin, FC3plus, GN Twin, FC 16 Go, etc etc. So I won't show those. But a couple clone systems you might not be aware of I'll post the pics below.

These are NES clone systems. The one takes the shape of a playstation and the other looks like a Famicom system. Note the Famicom carts are all of the pirated variety with some showing what is like a multi-game-in-one type feature.

The last pic is of a system that is still on it's way to me. So I haven't received it yet but this is the image the seller showed me when I was bidding on it on a local auction site. Should receive it in the next few days.
It's an Xbox-like system with playstation-like controllers and including a light-gun, but that plays only NES/Famicom type games. The concept sounded a little ridiculous to me, so I had to get it.
I didn't get any more details on it but it looks like some kind of Hong Kong, or such, manufactured product.

Clones? i've got clones!

they make look like a SNES or PlayStation but they are all cheap & nasty Famicom clones; often accompanied by a cartridge full of pirated Famicom games.
Imagine you are the kid that asked Santa for a PlayStation and got something like this instead.

If you guys like collecting clone consoles, you should really go to Malaysia some time.
They've got more clone consoles there than real ones. (I know because I go there for vacations all the time)

Imagine you are the kid that asked Santa for a PlayStation and got something like this instead.

That's exactly right.
I mean I'd know how I feel if I was all up for playing some kick-ass Sony game, only to find out that I was stuck with some rip-off Nintendo clone.

Seriously though, there are some "decent" clone systems out there.
In particular, speaking of the more recent clone systems, I'd say one can't place every one of them in the "crap" category, because it's simply not true.

For example,
The Retro Duo plays NES, SNES/Super Famicom carts. It plays Euro, US and Jap carts and has a high compatibility rate. It also has S-Video out. So the picture quality is decent enough.

Another very good clone is the FC 16 Go. This is a portable SNES system and is of very good quality. In particular, the Model 2 version of this system is highly recommended. Amongst other improvements is a better D-pad, bigger bumper triggers and stereo sound.
You can hook this system up to a TV as well and using it's own proprietry wireless controllers, it's a lot of fun.

yes, but they dont try to look like something they are not; they are upfront about what they are and have a reasonable build quality. Perhaps they should be called something else, like "after market consoles" instead of clones. The knock-offs in my collection are all really terrible in all respects... lousy picture quality, cheap plastic casing, flimsy leads, awful controllers. No value whatsoever and i only picked them up because they were 1 or 2 Euro.

Well the 'FC 16 Go' does look a little bit I guess like a DS Phat.

Posted Image Posted Image

But yeah I do take your point and you are right. A better term for these type of clones would definately be, as you say, aftermarket consoles.

Very nice!
It looks like a gamers room, as it should be. :yeah:
There are other collections out there that feel like you're kinda walking into a museum with mass upon mass of gaming paraphernalia. I prefer this type of setup.

One thing that caught my eye but that's not gaming related is that HD-DVD player.
I've used mine to the almost total exclusion of my PS3's Blu-ray player.
HD-DVD's are of excellent visual and audio quality and can be had for a couple dollars brand new!

Anyway, I also see a Virtual Boy in those pics. Always a guaranteed conversation starter that one. lol
And nice to see the really old-school Atari woody amongst your other systems. :yeah:

thats the only game i even owned for the DS. For the whole 3 months i actually owned one that is.

Such a great game, i would link up with my friend in my history of rock and rock class everyday senior year... Made the class fly right by!

...and yes i passed : P.

Also my friend claims i had one of those virtual boys when i was younger... yet i dont remember ever having something like that. Were there any other headset games released in the 90s?

Here's an idea Posted Image,
You could always build another room from the spare Nintendo parts you have. That way you could lessen the burden of lack of space in your main gaming area. :P

Your friend was probably thinking of one of these,
this contraption was called the Tiger Electronics R-Zone.

Appreciate the comment bro.

It's funny, my friends get on me so much for being so neat. My reply: I bet I know where everything is at.

Haha.

I've always been rubbish an organising things. It took me years to semi-organise my games/consoles. I still didn't lose any boxes/instruction manuals for games though, so I always wonder how people manage that.

I've always been organized in general. When in middle and high school, while everyone had pens and paper, I had a PDA to jot down my notes. Haha.

It's just something about knowing where everything is, and knowing that everything is in its proper place that is well rewarding in the end.
I just noticed, I messed that quote coding up. >_<

Nice topic, I think we had one a long time ago. Anyhow... Nice setup. Clarky :D

Sadly my gaming area has been wherever I happen to be holding my ds at lately. That is all I have got to play since the first of January (Glover.)
I will try to get a pic of my normal area soon. It is a coffee table with a 13" RCA on it  I also have a metal shelf in the bedroom where I have all my gaming systems on that I am not currently playing.

Lovely setup Clarky, your custom N64's are amazing! :) However, we've already got a topic for this so I've combined the two (the old topic wasn't as clearly titled as it should have been). It would be great to see some more photos of everyone setup, games and collections. :)

I need to post some new photos of mine, since it's changed since I last showed it.

Thanks man.

I actually want to get a glass shelf, that has doors to put my systems that are on display in. It'd be easier to keep them from dust, and people touching them.

Yah i would love one of those display shelves. But i dont have enough space in my room, or money in my wallet for one of those.

Maybe when my collection grows out of my room and im forced to setup shop in the basement... maybe then ill be able to invest in one. I hate haveing to wipe dust off weekly :\
