Another wee idea: N64 Forever Members Map

Members can place their locations on a world map and display as much or as little info about ourselves as we want to.

it may be of interest here where we have a worldwide membership and people regularly looking for assistance from people in other countries etc.

If you want added to the Members Map, pm me or bluedogrulez with :

1) Your location. (not your address or house just the nearest town)

2) Any details you wish added in your info section (eg. I added that I would be willing to forward purchases from the UK to to other countries)

Sounds intersting to me. I had meant to have everyone include their country in the survey, but forgot. I just wanted to guage where we were centered mostly.

Good idea :yeah:

I think its a cool idea, would be great to see where the bulk of our members are from.

Ok, apparently that Phoogle Maps program no longer has technical support, was for a different type of forum and was only a development program so not advised for use on a live forum!! :D

So, unless there are any objections or other ideas, how about as a little experiment, I just create one on Google and add people to it?

it could be done independantly of the forum for now and if it works ok and we iron out any problems that arise, it can be transferred across for admin control?

I thought about making it open so everyone could edit it but that would leave it open to all sorts of problems, pranks and abuse! :D

PM'd! Another idea would be to have a map where we could put locations of retro game stores. :D

Cheers for the pm's guys :yeah:

The following have been added.

MarioD
floorcat
Boomdiers
TNT737373
retrozombislayer
KelamyAUS
The Red Shadow
DeeMoney

We can customise the placement markers, I tried out the small :n64: placement icon as well as some others.

We can use different ones for Admin, Mods etc??

We also have a layer option, so different layers can be added.

stick up some ideas! :D

http://goo.gl/maps/kYIlQ

There's also an option to embed the map directly onto a website using HTML code? (I know nothing about this or how it works, I just copied that from the Google site) :D

So maybe if everything works out ok we could get it directly on the site in future?

We can do that, we can add layers or just using a different icon maybe?

Let's try it out here for test purposes:

EDIT: I could not get a real time image with [flash], [url] or [img] functions. May have to settle for a screenshot photo with a link to live map (like floorcat's T-Shirt Thread)

I'll review with some of our more savvy Admins. . . .

Think it needs to be entered into the website code, I don't think we can do it in a post as HTML code is potentially a security risk

Although I know absolutely NOTHING about website code (I Googled that) :D

Here's the HTML code to embed it if anyone can do it.

Again, although this looks impressive, i just copied and pasted it from the Google Map Editing screen

Is there any way to make a member's name appear when you mouse over their pin or marker?

I don't think so, only by clicking the marker or their name in the left menu I think.

I'll have a look
This is another wee version i've been playing with, we can add the names to the markers, what about that?
