I'm bumping this with an explanation for some of our new members . . . . We have a More About You Series sprinkled throughout the Social Board on various topics. It was created by Stinger so that we could get a chance to learn a little more about fellow members. This one was one of my favorite (some great entries ) and got a good response. So c'mon New Members, tell us: How did you get your scars? |

Well, I'm not *quite* a new member, but I somehow didn't post in this thread before... so here goes! Let's see... maybe I'll try to go chronologically. I have a scar on the outside corner of my left eye, which I got when I was pretty little... say maybe about 4 or 5? My parents and I were visiting one of my aunts, who (I think) was doing her residency at a hospital in... Chicago maybe? The hospital actually had an apartment section for staff, which was where this took place. I couldn't see over the windowsill in her apartment and really wanted to, so I took a nearby briefcase and stood it up below the window to stand on. Of course, the second I stood on it, it fell away from the wall, and I hit the windowsill with the corner of my eye, right where it's literally skin and bone. I didn't break my skull (heh), and since it was ONLY skin covering bone, it basically pinched through the skin, and it literally looked like I was crying blood. No nerves in that area, so it didn't even hurt... I remember looking in the mirror and dabbing my left eye as if I was crying, but it was only blood. I remember having to just take an elevator a few floors down to get it stitched. ... which was weird, because it looked like they were tying knots with strings coming out of my eyeball!I've got a good score of scars on my knees from falling on my bike & rollerblades... typical stuff growing up. I had been on the alpine ski racing team through high school, and I had 2 pretty bloody (but not painful) falls, where the tail of my ski had come from behind and hit my head. One of those times the ski cut up my left ear & cheek, resulting in about 11 stiches... and a very faint scar (looks almost like a scratch) on my left cheek right in front of my ear. Lastly, I've got probably a few hundred scars along my shins from riding observed bicycle trials without shin guards... specifically my right shin, since I did pedal kicks with my right foot forward. The "trialsin'" evolved into BMX, which I currently ride, and still get occasional shin gouges from slipping off my pedals. |

Thanks for bumping, BDR, and for sharing FC. Your story reminds me of my wife a bit. When she was five she bumped her eye brow ridge on the edge of their sink. It laid it open horribly. She still has a small scar running through her eyebrow from it. |
