PAL region only, added because of strict EU regulations regarding interference. And the correct technical term is 'kludge' :)

yes you can remove it with some force but it wil destroy the plastic casing so you can't put it back on.
My advice: just leave it there. A PAL controller _should_ have one and it doesn't eat bread as they say here in Holland.
