just read it further too and the UK get to choose one of 8 games

now should I get sonic or Wonderful 101?
The Wonderful 101 is great, although there is a demo on the e-shop if you want to try it!

I can't decide what I want... Stuck between Zelda and Monster Hunter.

I don't get the wording of the advertisement. You "could claim" one of those games? Does that mean there is a chance you might not be able to?

So I just saw this trailer, and I think I'll humbly-bumbly eat my own words I typed earlier this week. MK8 looks like a BALL, and now that they've announced an MK8 bundle... I might just have to go for it. <_>

Shame that the "free download" included with the US bundle is from a choice of only 4 games... :-/
Now Playing: Clash Royale (mobile), Gravity Rush 2, Rayman Legends, Project CARS, Uncharted 4 Survival Mode ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I think that's just bad wording... From the terms and conditions it sure seems definite, at least with how i'm reading it

MK8 is pre-ordered :yeah: From Best Buy. Got to use a $10 off customer reward and got a confounding but ultimately useful $10 off gasoline credit and Windwaker HD will finally be mine! All of that = no brainer

Now if we could just get 5/30 declared a Global holiday . . . .

Decided I'm going for WindWaker HD, Wii U space is limited (32gb is no where near enough...), and it's only 2GB as opposed to the 8 or so Monster Hunter is.

Lots of Wii U hype about and that is good and a nice for once. MK8 I was looking forward to as well, as I have been waiting for MK game since the 64/DS to get me excited again. I was looking forward to MK8 but the direct today got me super excited. Plus a free game which is a great deal I did not need but will most defiantly enjoy. Looking at the games prices I feel that only the WW is one of choice if you do not have it. I have seen the price come down on all the other titles quite a bit and they can be picked up pretty cheap new or pre-owned. I got a new Nintendoland for $5 from Game a few weeks ago. Pikmin is tempting but he price keeps dropping on it so i will probably wait a bit longer for that. Wii Part U is a good fun party game though and surprised me but the stand and remote really help there and digital version would not be worth the entry cost. I was tempted by NSMBU but I think i want to get one of them discs with both Mario and the Luigi on the one disc.

Still I hope the directs carry on to this standard and was not surprised to see the major gaming sites turning all this positive news into bad click bait and it just came across as bitter.

:yoshi: Oh and you really need to see how good Yoshi's Valley looks in the retro track and I am glad to see the spinning egg in HD :yoshi:

Disconnected my Wii last night and replaced it the Wii U. Setup was kinda a bear and it bugs me that I wasn't able to exactly replicate my original Mii. I think the eyebrows on the new one aren't exactly like they were on the old. :(

The system update took forever and the Wii U's interface is a little clunky. Hopefully Mario Kart 8 will make this all worthwhile.

The first update is supposed to take forever. It's a bummer because people are impatient to start the new console but it's only the one time. So, you don't like the Wii U much because of the initial update and the Mii character? Someone couldn't handle the early death of the Wii ^_^

I'm not saying that I don't like the Wii U but rather that a few things about it aren't very well thought out.

Played a little bit of New Super Mario Bros. U today and realized that I'm horrible at old-school platformer games. Mario Kart 8 can't come soon enough.

Oh, I also played Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii U and everything looked great. No remorse after disconnecting the Wii whatsoever.

Seconded to be honest.

I didn't even bother hooking my Wii U up to the internet until The Wonderful 101 demo came out, for the sole fact of how awful network set up is on that console, for my router I literally had to enter the entire settings by hand,.

I know how to manually set settings, and UK nintendo site has the settings for my exact router, but still, alot of effort to manually set up all that stuff and I still don't have multiplayer games, so it just took something (like, TW101, which along with Bayonetta 2, the whole reason I bought the Wii U to start with) demo to actually motivate me to go through it.

I didn't find the setup to be that difficult...maybe easier than the Wii. The software updates took awhile but i think that is to be expected. I get more irritated by the updates required when i pop in a new game. Yes, my love for carts is still strong, lol.

I normally keep my SSID hidden so I had to change that so the Wii U would detect my D-Link router and make Wi-Fi setup easier. I'm a little disappointed that the Wii U doesn't include an Ethernet port as I generally prefer to have my consoles wired to my router for optimal on-line gaming performance.

The Wii U isn't a bad system by any stretch of the imagination but given the main (television) screen's push towards the purchase of additional digital content, I'm getting a very Apple feel from the Wii U which somewhat turns me off. :-/

Isn't there talk of a Mario Kart 8 demo?

I think my Wii-U is just collecting dust now. We have given up on Disney Infinity till the new characters arrive (MARVEL CHARACTERS FOR WAVE 2). I don't get the time to play nintendoland with my partner anymore since we usually are doing other stuff.
Marios I don't really play, my partner does in the odd occasion but very rarely now. :(

Original Wii games that I've played on the Wii U so far are:

1) Mario Kart Wii: Looks great and on-line performance is comparable to playing it on the Wii.

2) Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Where did all my characters I unlocked go? >_<
Brawl upscales very nicely to 1080p. Can't wait to play the fantabulous Project M mod to see the alternate arenas upscaled too.

3) Goldeneye 007: Surround Sound seems much improved. Maybe it's because I have the Wii U hooked up to my set with HDMI whereas I had the original Wii hooked up to the receiver with plain old RCA cables.

More impressions to follow as I discover new stuff.

I had a nightmare setting up due to the fact even wired it would not connect to my super hub. In the end I had to dig out my router and connect it to that. I would recommend you go wired though and get cheap LAN adapter. I had a lot more random crashes and and system freezes when using the Wi-Fi. Still I think once that big update is out of the way its much better then Wii ever was in every way. It might seem a bit clunky to some but it I found it to be easy, quick and simple. Saying that I do not own any of the new twins and then gone to Wii U, so I wonder if that is why others find it that way.

So something weird happened to my mothers Wii U today. Which is a 32GB launch model. Today I noticed a horizontal yellow line across the gamepad screen. It only appeared today and for no apparent reason. So I just thought before I have to contact Nintendo I would ask about and see if anybody knows of what may have caused this.
Don't want to alarm you but that pretty much describes the first symptoms i detected on my Wii U gamepad.
It stopped working a couple of days later and according to Nintendo the GPU had fried due to insufficient ventilation and could not be repaired.
Tip for all Wi U owners: keep it well ventilated and clean those air vents every once in a while.

BTW: after a lot of to & fro with Nintendo and the shop who sold it to me it looks like I will get my Wii U replaced free of charge.
Nintendo's initial offer was to replace it at my expense (a whopping 187 euro!) but now the shop will pick up the tab if all goes according to plan.
I turned in the broken console today and hope i'll have another one in time for the Mario Kart 8 release.

I already have a third-party Wii LAN adapter that was given to me for free by someone who knew I was collecting GameCube Broadband Adapters at the time.

I've tested all my on-line enabled Wii titles on the Wii U and the Wi-Fi performance is more than acceptable. I guess it's because my Wii U is only sitting about 2 feet away from the router.

May 30 can't come soon enough. I love Mario Kart games and MK8 looks really engaging thanks to the new gameplay mechanics. :yeah:

Agreed.

Did i tell you guys i've seen it played on a huge screen while i was at Nintendo HQ?
The visuals alone will simply blow your mind, this is the showcase game the console so desperately needs.
And if MK8 doesn't manage to shift a lot of units off the shelves i'm afraid the Wii U is doomed.

As long as we get more quality exclusives I truly don't care how much it sells. Yes it sucks but I'm not the company losing money so I could honestly care less. Also you went to HQ? How'd that go

Cheers MK for the info. I took my Gamepad down to my mothers and hooked it up and the yellow line did not show on my Gamepad so kind of ruled out it was the machine. Still I shall be keeping an eye on things. so far Nintendo have said if I send it to them and prove my purchase they will repair ir for free if the damage was not cause by the user. I have not sent it away yet and really I should as I know I will get in the neck if Mario Kart 8 is out and she can not play it. -_-

Nintendo Benelux (BElgium NEtherlands LUXemburg) HQ is located in my hometown and they dont mind if you drop off your repair jobs in person.
Always nice to be there and you never know what you might see, hear or pick up!

I was there a couple of weeks ago to get my 3DS circlepad fixed and they were having a press event demo-ing Mario Kart 8.
And i was there again last week with my broken Wii U.
They have just moved to a new office BTW; they used to be a few blocks away from my home but now it's just a 5 minute walk round the corner.

@MK, this might sound silly but what are the acceptable conditions regarding console ventilation? I have my consoles on a cabinet that does not have front or back "walls", so the air circulates. But the cabinet is only a few centimeters from the wall. How can I tell if it is well ventilated or not?
Where was your console located when it fried the CPU?

After my Xbox 360 RROD'ed on me, I make it a point to keep all my modern video game consoles properly ventilated.

On a sour note: Nintendo Announces Another Annual Loss, 6.17 Million Wii U Consoles Sold

However:
Quote:

With the release of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. on the horizon, Nintendo is surely hoping things turn around. Strong sellers from the last year include Pokemon X & Y, which sold 12.26 million and Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds all managed to hit the 2 million mark.

My belief is that Mario Kart 8 is going to change the Wii U's fortunes in a big way and just when the excitement for it starts to diminish then Super Smash Bros. IV will hit. I fully expect Nintendo to have a BIG holidays season this year but first we have to get past E3.
