Well if it is legit, there is at least one surprise left: "Nintendo U" would appear to be an intentionally false name. Please be Metroid!!

Let's just ponder this...Gamecube HD games. SNES classics like Super Metroid on the Wii U virtual console. Full Wii compatibility. maybe, just maybe, the Wii U becomes a best of nintendo console that sits alone in the family room?

Given what some people on this forum pay for old controllers, $200 seems like a negligible investment for a console that offers as much as the Wii U. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Zelda and the promise of a new Star Fox easily justify that price.

Besides, all the cool kids are playing Mario Kart 8 on Friday nights and a $200 Wii U seems like an relatively inexpensive way to get in on the action.

Guys,
I need your help.
I'm still in a doubt about what WiiU to get.

I'll get one somewhere in August I think. But here's the problem; I really love the design of the Zelda WiiU as is available now, but I'm no big Zelda fan whatsoever (shoot me) and I'm scared off by the digital download as well.
Now, I love Mario Kart, Super Smah and Mario Party games, and those are the biggest reason for me to get a WiiU. But I already have MK8 as a limited edition, and am planning on getting SSB as limited edition as well (bundled with gc controller).

What would you do?
Get the Zelda WiiU for it's looks, get an other set (i.e. Nintendoland) or wait for a possibility of a WiiU bundle with SSB and gc controller that might be just another plain black console?

You can always sell the digital code for the Zelda one.

Based on what you've written, I'd get the Zelda Wii U and sell the digital code as Buddy1983 has suggested. However, if you don't mind the standard black model you can order a "refurbished" Wii U directly from Nintendo for just $200.

If Nintendo does eventually release a Super Smash Bros. IV bundle down the road it'll probably be the standard black just like the MK8 bundle was. That would make sense as it would match the new GameCube controller that's been shown along with the GC Controller Adapter for Wii U.

So im browsing ebay and see that the Wii U Mario Kart 8 console bundles are selling for $400+ on ebay and was wondering if these are hard to come by in some places. I live in a really small town but My Girlfriend just bought me it one my birthday for $299 at the local Gamestop and they still have about 10 left so I was wondering how hard these are to come by in bigger areas?

they're everywhere. dont bother the stupid online seller trying to jack prices up for nothing. same happened with the Zelda bundle and it's been close to a year now and they are still available on the shelves.

I just checked the GameStop website and no store within 100 miles of me has the Mario Kart 8 bundle in stock right now.

$200 for a refurb WiiU would be cool. That'll make the choose a lose easier since it saves me about $100/$150. But as far as I know, that is USA only. Or at least, I can't find anything about it in Europe

Selling the digital copy might be an option. But is there really a demand for this? I mean, if it's only $5 or $10 I'd rather keep it, just in case I might enjoy it after all and finally get into TLOZ.

I cant find the Zelda Bundle anywhere around me, and the Gamestop by my house is the only one within an hour of me that has the Mariokart bundle. It must just vary by location who has what bundles

I'm guessing you guys have positive attitudes about refurbs? I've always felt very apprehensive about them, even when they come from the original manufacturers. Am I being too critical?

Refurbished Wii U's that are purchased through Nintendo's on-line store carry a 1 year warranty just like the new models do.

If someone isn't comfortable with a refurb I completely understand and suggest checking Ebay because occasionally you'll find some sweet deals there on new Wii U's. For example, I got my 32 GB Wii U that came bundled with New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U for just $250 without tax and with free shipping from an Ebay wholesaler. :yeah:

The Nintendo Wii U arguably has the best library of games of any of the current gen consoles. If you actually enjoy playing video games rather than just bragging about specs I suggest picking one up ASAP. :yeah:

Although I complain about Mario Kart 8's item balance, the game is still good enough to keep me coming back to it on a daily basis. I've got Pikmin 3 in reserve for when I'm ready for something different and of course the promise of Hyrule Warriors gives me something to look forward to near the end of the Summer. The big game, however, is going to be Super Smash Bros. IV that promises to offer ship loads of gameplay for both serious and casual gamers alike. People who played it at E3 say it's already the best "party" version of Smash Bros. and with further development the competitive side of SSBWiiU truly will be For Glory either on-line or off. :w00t:

I kinda tune out the which current gen console is best arguments, because for me, they are irrelevant. I'm a Nintendo-only gamer, so the only question for me is whether the Wii U is worth the price. I'm not suggesting being a Nintendo-only gamer is right or wrong, but it's just the way I am and I know some others here are like that. On that basis, I'm real happy with my Wii U right now. Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Land, and the NES Remixes have received the most play on my machine, though I have a bunch more titles (bought on the cheap!) that are in queue for someday . . . .

Couldn't agree with you more! Console wars are stupid as it all boils down to software. For that reason I always advise people to buy the console that's most likely to have the games they like to play. Since I tend to enjoy Nintendo's games I almost always buy their consoles even if it's just as a back up to another system. For example, I probably played my Xbox 360 more but I still purchased a Wii and played an insane amount of these three games. :D

Obviously, since I'm on this site, I'm a HUGE fan of the N64's software but ironically the original Wii has been my favorite Nintendo console to date as it offers so many gaming possibilities. Titles like Wii Sports enticed my family and casual friends to enjoy video gaming with me; backwards compatibility granted me access to the GameCube library of masterpieces that I'd missed, and the Virtual Console service allowed me to download the prettiest iterations of N64 games in glorious progressive scan.

I love the fact that the Wii U is backwards compatible too as I still haven't finished Muramasa: The Demon Blade with Kisuke. :-8

If you live near a Best Buy, you are in luck. Next week (July 20th), they are running special offers on Nintendo items. Reportedly, Best Buy will be selling Wii U Pro controllers for $29.99 plus you get a $10 Best Buy card (which I will probably apply to Wii U Sports Club). Great deal if you are in the market.

(07/21) CONFIRMED: Wii U Pro Controller (White Only) is $29.99. No Best buy card.

The $10 Best buy card is if you buy any WiiMote, including the new Princess Peach one, for $39.99.

YOU CAN NOW TRANSFER YOUR WII U DATA TO ANOTHER WII U

Quote:

An update (5.1.0) allowing you to transfer your Wii U data to another Wii U is currently being rolled out by Nintendo.

As outlined on Nintendo's support page, the feature will only work with two working and present consoles (no dice if it's broken or lost), and will transfer users, Nintendo Network IDs, save data and downloaded content from one to the other. Once the transfer is complete, the source Wii U will be formatted.

One presumes this feature won't be too useful in the immediate future, but might have some worth if different models are released down the line, or if you're looking to upgrade from the basic to deluxe model.

I like that a lot. I have been thinking about getting a second console for the family room (and just syncing my gamepad with whichever console is being used). With data transfer, I guess I could keep the consoles in lockstep as far as game progress, downloads, etc.

You thinking about getting a refurbished unit directly from Nintendo?

Actually thinking of grabbing a white console only off ebay for about $100...but just thinking about it.

Went to Best Buy to claim my $30 Wii U Pro Controller and weirdness set in. They had no Wii U Pro controllers at all. In fact, the Wii U section had no consoles, a very scant amount if games (and no MK8), save for Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Not sure whether Wii U goods are flying off shelf or whether store not being properly supplied. Either way, a bit jarring given the E3/MK8 bump it has received....

$100 is a fantastic bargain for even the 8 GB Wii U since you can always add more storage capacity with an external hard-drive. :yeah:

For a while, there was talk that Best Buy was going to stop supporting the Wii U. That was back around the time I got my white Wii U Pro Controller for just $26 and no shipping charge from them. However, the Wii U is becoming much more sought after in the wake of Nintendo's strong showing at this year's E3.
