I think the first one. While I certainly enjoy NES themed controllers, I like my consoles to have their own indentity. The first one just seems to suit the Wii U really well...i suppose its the blue highlights.

Then it's decided... the first one it shall be!! :w00t:

@White Falcon: https://www.decalgirl.com/skins/290737/wii-u-skin-spec
@Shellshocker18: I agree... the gamepad portion of the NES skin doesn't quite look that great... which is a shame because that's the part I'll most likely be looking at more!!

In the not-so-common situation of having a library ahead of the console. :eh: Any opinions on what I should play first?

As for what game I think you should actually play, Pikmin 3 is a good place to start. It was my first Wii-u game and first Pikmin game. It has a really simple and short single player campaign that's good for 5-6 hours . Playing with the game pad set up in front of you as a hud while playing with the Wii-mote plus and nunchuck was a pretty neat setup.

I'd the NES theme but I'd also go through the route of sending it to zoki for a real NES painted theme. dilemma.

Guess I'll post it here: Ogre Battle 64 is coming to the NA VC tomorrow. Might pick that one up.

Another major clearance wave went through my store's Wii U accessories this week. Every remote and nunchuk made by Nintendo and most of the off-brands as well. Also, pro controllers, GameCube-style controllers, wheels and sensor bars. You name it, its probably on its way out for decent prices at local Walmarts.

I really like the Wii U and believe the console has tremendous potential that sadly was never fully realized. Ultimately it just ended up being a Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart console for me which I guess is fine but probably not enough to justify the price. Thankfully the online is free and it doesn't appear like it's going to be shut down anytime soon so I guess I'll still get a little more out of my investment.

The Wii U did leave a bad enough taste in my mouth, however, that I'm not going to buy a Switch at launch. May not even buy one for a couple of years just to make sure that it's not just another gimmicky machine that never lives up to its promise like the Wii U.

Crap!!!

Still haven't organized some stuff and this is all happening before I'm ready.
So, any tips I'm happy to hear!

So, when is Zelda even coming out? Early March?
Better be!
What's controllers does the Wii U come with? Should I get a different one?
What is the best possible controls and way of playing Zelda?
I'm so not up to date on this knowledge and it's slightly stressing me cause I need to pick the best possible option because that's how my annoying logical brain works 😆

I'm pretty sure that the Wii U is the best option for me, even though I can only see myself playing it for Zelda and Mario Kart...
Not because I don't like the console, but plenty of my game time is spent already just playing N64 and like only Killer Instinct and Sea of Thieves on Xbox in the future.

I could be convinced that Switch is better...i think I will get one later anyway...
Just how much later is the question.

Sorry for the annoying post.
Just hope someone understands what I'm going on about and can give some wise insight. 😇😊

Zelda's releasing on March 3rd for Switch and Wii U.

The system comes with the GamePad, you can play Zelda with it or with the Pro Controller. I've heard differing things as to how much GamePad stuff there is with Zelda on the Wii U, from "nothing" to "still displays a map."

Don't forget it got excellent remakes of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Speaking of Wii U skins you all inspired me to get this little beauty; I sold my gamepad to a friend and I'm not putting the front sticker on but the top was too great to pass up :)

@DJCat: if you like the GameCube controller, Hyperkin has a GameCube style pro controller that might be good for Zelda. http://hyperkinlab.com/procube-controller-purple/

Harvest Moon 64 is finally being rereleased for Wii-U tomorrow in North America and on the 24th for Europe. It's great that all these expensive n64 exclusives are being made readily available.

Natsume President Hiro Maekawa originally said that it couldn't come to the Wii-U because of some technical limitations but it seems whatever he was talking about is no longer an issue.

The cost to manufacture the gamepad never allowed Nintendo to adjust the price of the Wii U to make it truly viable against the PS4 and XB1. The smarter choice would have been to bundle the Wii U with a Pro controller and allow the console to interact with mobile phones and tablets as an option on certain games.

I'm really sad at the way the whole thing ended up for the Wii U but I can't say I'm at all surprised. The Wii U section at my local Walmart is little more than a monument to squandered potential now and it almost brought a tear to my eyes yesterday when I walked through it. ;_;

I was thinking about the gamepad this morning and how it was not the game-changer Nintendo conceived it to be. But clearly it begat the Switch, which is a game-changer. The Wii U was a step in the evolution of off-tv/mobility functionality of consoles.

If Nintendo couldn't make the gamepad seem necessary I can't imagine how any third-party could. It's funny, I don't use the gamepad with any of the games I play on the Wii U. :-8

Splatoon and Captain Toad integrate the gamepad exceptionally well. Some of the early games, like Lego City, do as well. Star Fox Zero does too...not so well received, but like most Wii U criticism, so exaggerated. But yeah, I'd rather use the Pro Controller and reserve the gamepad for off-TV play.

Actually I ended up selling my gamepad to a friend who got a cheap Wii U without one. I don't miss it that much - don't need it for Smash Bros or Mario kart or most of the VC games. Actually with 4 pro controllers the Wii U makes a pretty good traditional gaming system.

Also we've got the final 3 (now 6) smash bros amiibos to look forward to. I'm surprised Nintendo didn't use the opportunity to plug a remake of that for the switch. Unless it's not coming after all...

Thinking of buying Xenoblade Chronicles, do you have to have played the Wii game to understand this one? Anyone played it, is it good?

do they even make WiiU console ? I have not seem one in store in over a year. I thought I could pick one on the very cheap side whent eh switch was out but it seems, even in the used market, they keep their value on the high side.

Just another example of Nintendo manipulating inventory to artificially boost prices. :-/

You can still buy refurbished Deluxe Wii U's directly from Nintendo for $200.

Tell me about it. The only game I still play on the Wii U with any regularity is Sm4sh when several friends come over. If I want to play a Smash game by my self or against a single friend then it's usually Project M or Smash 64 on my original Wii.

I believe Nintendo really screwed up with their marketing strategy for the Wii U. It's a competent console that never got enough of Nintendo's most popular intellectual properties to drive demand and grow the userbase. Sadly, I'm seeing some of the same mistakes being made with the Switch.

The problem with the second hand market is the price for the gamepad. Second hand gamepads seem to go for $80-100.

Knowing that, see if you can find a WiiU with a pro controller bundled in. If it has no gamrpad, lowball it, if it has the gamepad, think about flipping it and recoup some money.

Hmmm. Never thought of that...
Still, buying a complete one, setting it up and selling the gamepad would still be possible right? As long as you do not plan on reselling it or resetting settings?

(I already own a WiiU, so no need for me, but just thinking out loud on how to get a WiiU "on the cheap" second hand)
