The Gamecube Topic; "Gamecube" or is it really the "N128" ?

the gamecube seems like a better version of the N64:

1080 snowboarding
wave race blue storm
zelda twilight princess (+ wind waker)
the resident evil series
finally a tomb raider on a nintendo console
some good rpg's
the metroid prime series
mario sunshine (or if you will super mario 128)
eternal darkness
starfox dinosaur planet
two rogue squadrons
splinter cell (or the game mission impossible wanted to be)

it doesnt get the credit it deserves though. it's library was vastly superior to the N64's, with killer graphics to boot. but people seem to be wound up on the fact that the PS2 sold ten times more. well, i have a PS2 with many games and it is a noisy, flawed machine: long loading times and a controller that just died on me. it doesnt have the nintendo magic.
also, there is the gameboy player that lets you play every gameboy game including the advance games. games like metroid fusion, castlevania circle of the moon... all play very well on the gamecube, and they excell in pur egameplay.

so, i'm going to restore my gamecube collection with all the games i sadly parted with over the years. it's the last great nintendo console, before it all went downhill really fast.

cant disagree with anything you said there :yeah: I never had a gamecube during its life as I had a Ps2 and xbox but brought one a couple of years ago and I love it. The controller is one of the most comfortable I have used although I hate the "c" analogue, 2 small. Twin snakes is a great game also

Saying which is better in terms of games is a bit tricky but I'd go with the 64 if we're talking about quality over quantity. However the GameCube has one of the best if not THE best controllers ever.

i've ordered wave race and blood omen 2

wave race is the better version of the N64, and blood omen 2 i bought for nostalgic reasons. it's also very cool to use stealth skills to attack your enemies in mist form etc. a very underrated fun game and becoming very rare on the GC 8)

i've also played F zero GX again after a long long time, and i am blown away. great graphics, imaginative environments, perfect control. this game is awesome.

also, i dont have to worry about my control stick wearing out, since the GC has the best control stick ever 8)

F-Zero GX looks incredible if you play it in progressive scan and in widescreen mode. You'll need the relatively expensive component cables to do that on the GameCube so most people just play it on their Wii. That's because Wii component cables can be purchased for less than $10 at Monprice. :D

here is my current list of games i own on gamecube

- metroid prime
- metroid prime 2
- zelda WW (player's choice)
- zelda TP
- mario sunshine
- f zero GX
- wave race blue storm
- resident evil
- resident evil zero
- metal gear solid twin snakes
- blood omen 2
- rogue squadron II rogue leader
- rogue squadron III rebel strike

all these games are AAA games, they burst of high quality textures and colors. gameplay is at it's best. who would have thought this system would spawn three mario related platformers (luigi, mario and wario), 6 resident evils, two zelda's, two metroids, two rogue squadrons, worthy sequels to f zero, wave race and 1080, third party masterpieces like the splinter cell series, king kong, prince of persia, beyond good and evil, hitman, tomb raider, medal of honor... and i'm certainly forgetting other high quality games

it was the last true gaming console. no silly menu's or internet access with updates. a simple, robust classic controller without that confusing wii mote crap. mind blowing graphics...

for me, the gamecube is the pinnacle of 128 bit gaming. it offers the best overall experience. of the four 128 bit systems it has the best and most exclusives. it has third party support. better textures than the XBOX. so it didnt sell very good, the mindless mass fell for sony's marketing lies and bought the inferior console in stead (including me, at the time). i feel the PS2 was a serious waste of many years of my life as i can see the true staying power of the cube

While I agree that the GameCube is a great gaming console I don't feel that the PlayStation 2 is inferior. Remember, the PS2 also included audio CD and video DVD support which added immensely to its functionality. On top of that, the PS2 has several titles in its library that feature proper on-line support and some that can be played on-line via tunneling software like X-link.

I play a lot of Super Smash Bros. Melee and F-Zero GX so there's no doubt that I appreciate the little purple lunch box of joy, but I'm not smitten with the system enough to overlook its obvious flaws which kept it from claiming a higher position in the console wars or at the cash register.

Ironically, I'm playing GC games much more than N64 ones as of late. ^_^

Action, I too am just starting to explore my Wii's GameCube functionality. And I want you to know that I took you're advice about F-Zero GX being (1) awesome and (2) on the rise pricewise, and purchased a black label copy yesterday. I've only played the little teaser on the Mario Kart Bonus disc, and I was sold. (That little disc also lead to me getting Sonic Heroes, which my daughter loves and I kinda enjoy too).

For the record, I REALLY don't think the PS2 should be given ANY points for audio CD and DVD support at least amongst gamers. IMHO, consoles should be evaluated strictly on reasons related to gameplay, right Microsoft?

Smart move as F-Zero GX is AWESOME! You may never want to go back to Star Wars Episode 1: Racer ever again. :D

It's worth sourcing up a GC or backwards compatible Wii for these three titles alone. :yeah:

Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is the thinking man's Mario Kart; F-Zero GX is quite possibly the best racing game of all time; and Super Smash Bros. Melee scales brilliantly between casual and competitive play.

i haven't seen the game around anymore in any webshop for a long time

it's not vampire's kiss already, but lately i've only seen it on ebay (in fair quantities, mind)

i do notice they are getting rarer by the day. you've also have to consider finding a mint disc will prove to be the challenge of the future.

i'm glad i found an absolute mint disc and the black label 8)

I finished the N64 cart and box set, just need a few manuals, but since I finished that, I am focusing on Gamecube next. I am just over 300 so far, still needing most of the $80+ games, but I have like 90% of the mid range titles ($10-$50). It is a great system.

If any of you haven't, and you are a fan of RPGs, check out Lost Kingdoms (I prefer the 2nd one), and Baten Kaitos (either is good). Both are awesome RPGs that have a battle system focused on cards. Baten Kaitos has your moves on cards and Lost Kingdoms has monsters stored in cards. Baten kaitos is turn based, Lost Kingdoms is an action RPG.

zelda TP is incredibly underrated

save for all the nostalgia, TP is in every way an improvement to OOT

OK, TP starts very slow, to the point where you're almost ready to give up. but, the part before your first visit to the hyrule field makes up for maybe 2% of the entire game, and really is only a training field.

the heart containers. not anymore do you need to find 4 heart parts to gain a new heart container. you need five. that's incredible; as for heart containers alone there are many more secret places to find. love it. i still havent find them all.

the hyrule field; maybe 5 times as big as the one in OOT.

the whorld is crammed with secret places to find. you think "i know this corner, i found it all". only to discover an entire lost city there (the western city).

replay value is definately bigger, there are a lot of sword techniques to master.

a lot of side games. the fishing games is back and better than ever. now, you can even float a small boat to seek the best parts of the fishing pont.

there is so much to discover. the graphics are so detailed, so atmospheric.

it is the best game on the gamecube, no matter what anyone says. it also beats OOT in every way. i cant think of any aspect that is lacking in TP compared to OOT. honestly.

The Gamecube was amazing. I anticipated no console launch greater than that of the GameCube. I remember putting my hands on that controller for the first time. It's far and away the most comfortable controller I've ever held. Felt like it was just made for my own hands.

In retrospect, the magic of the N64 still shines brighter for me, and that probably has a lot more to do with the timing of the system as I was growing up, rather than the actual system itself. In a lot of ways, I had always hoped that the GCN would just be a high powered continuation of the N64. I don't think that was the case at all. Nintendo is always evolving, and not just iterating. At the time I found myself slightly dissapointed with titles like Mario Kart: Double Dash, and Super Mario Sunshine. Back then I felt like Nintendo finally had the hardware to fully realize some of those great N64 games, but ideologically Nintendo had already moved on.

I definitely appreciate the Gamecube and its library more now than I did in its prime. I have a huge backlog of games that have been fun working through them.

in these grim times of tiresome, generic war shooters / sandbox games / assassins creed wannabees, the gamecube feels like a safe haven.
we have mario sunshine which never fails to bring the sun in my heart (feels like you're on vacation). wave race which is quite the challenge conquering the waves or just riding along dolphins. genuinly frightening games like the resident evil remake, eternal darkness. highly likeable characters with beyond good and evil. immersive worlds to explore with twilight princess. lightning speed with f zero GX.

this is all long gone in recent games. where is the fantasy? the originality? it seems that every year, games have less and less gameplay and its all about who has the best graphics. also, online doesnt interest me at all. i suck at online shooters, being shot dead every 15 seconds and then respawn. gets boring really fast.

i can enjoy playing 45 minutes of eternal darkness after a long day at work. i get immersed in the incredible engaging story. after that i play some wave race, mario or f zero. after a session i'm completely recovered from the dull day at work. somehow, my PS3 games are just too complicated, too stressfull (killzone 2), too bland, too emtpy (every sandbox game).

Orange Spice Gamecubes are fairly common in Japan.

I think the Gamecube has twice as many amazing games than the N64 (N64 had roughly 300 released, the Gamecube after all has roughly 650) - but I am still in love and feel nostalgia more for the N64 games. First time playing in 3D worlds did it for me.

I want to put a spice case on one of my North American GameCubes. Maybe I'll reach out to someone in Japan to help me with that.

Grizz - I thought the orange Gamecube was released in the US too. It certainly wasn't here in PAL land much to my annoyance! :-/

Edit - getting confused - I realised they were able to be played in the US so could be imported. :-8

time for us gamecube maniacs to march on to our goal of world domination! :P

after a long snes phase, it's all gamecube again at action's gaming mancave 8)

i've already played some beyond good & evil, rebel strike, eternal darkness and metroid fusion on gameboy player. rebel strike has that wonderfull arcade action feel, it's all about shooting and earning medals, in some of the most inspiring and convincing environments ever created. i'm a bit stuck at eternal darkness. finished the second boss in BG&E. was blown away by metroid fusion on my CRT screen. the gameboy player feels like a whole new galaxy of new snes games since GBA games truyly are of snes quality and a 2D gamer's dream.

i regret foolishly buying a black gamecube though, purple is so much more badass 8) for me purple is the defining nintendo color: purple gameboy color, grape purple N64, purple gamecube, purple GBASP,... gotta love purple :P
