I think most of us are well into adulthood now I wish I hadn't grown up yet and the fact that you don't see my name in any boxscore of any NBA game means I haven't lived my dream . Other than that I always wanted to join the Army when I was a Teenager and when I was 17 I did just that. Did 3 years and then got out. Had enough of it and wanted to do something else. I guess dreams change and things in life happen. Best advice I can give is don't get too disappointed with things if they don't go your way. Life will be hard at times and sometimes dreams will go unfulfilled. Doesn't mean you should stop trying or lose sight of the big picture. Also it's always good to have a few things on the table just in case things don't work out the way you want them to.

I just turned 31 last week. Back in the day I had aspirations of doing various things. I had goals of being a graphic artist. Thoughts of working for my dad as a property manager for him. I also had serious aspirations of being a professional mma trainer. I came closest to doing this, and do teach mma to a few aspiring cage fighters. Instead of all that, I am a normalworking man ![]() I work 40-50 hours a week detailing automobiles. All my extra time goes to my family. I live week to week on paychecks, and don't have time to think about long term goals or career possibilities. I do enjoy hearing other peoples aspirations though

Well when I was a teenager, I was going to be a rockstar and nothing else. I had not a care to offer to school and I just played guitar all day every day. That changed quick enough when the weight of responsibility and affording a place to live was dropped upon my shoulders. Still, though it could be seen as a dream-shattering event, it actually developed ME further. I know better who I am today than ever before and what my true interests and talents are. Today, I want to become a programmer to advance further in the industry, but I must re-attend school to do so because I wasted my teenage years doing as I please. I don't really regret it, per say, since I learned everything else that school didn't teach me on my own, but I sure wish I could just skip the high school stuff now and straight-up attend a college for something I care about. It's funny how goals can change over such a short time. |

When I was in High School I pretty much had everything planned out. I wasn't a genius, but I was pretty smart, had good grades, and I fully intended to go to school to become an aerospace engineer and help design the crafts that would help us explore and better understand the universe. I felt like it would be a worth while and lasting contribution to humanity. The further down that path I went though, the less I enjoyed it. It got to the point I was forcing myself to go to class, and wasn't doing well even then. I knew I had to do something else. I started working at the college radio station, during that time mostly as a release from the stress of wondering what the heck I was going to do with my life. Radio was something I always found interesting, and enjoyed listening to. I liked rock music, but more than the music, I just liked making people laugh and being funny. I dropped out of school the next year, but my experience there helped me land a part time job at the station the next town over from the college. I had to work a second job for a couple years just to supplement my living expenses. I've moved to a couple different stations between now and then. I'm not going to get rich, but now I'm proud to say I still have a fun job, making people laugh and I'm able to support a family doing it. |

I just finished up high school and in my second year of college and still have no idea what I'm going to be doing in the next few years. All I know is I love collecting video games although there isn't really a job that does that haha |

What do you do when you've grown up and you aren't doing any of the things you wanted to and you don't really have any of those things you want to do anymore anyway? That's my position. I no longer want to study meteorology and every other thing I want or wanted to do was outside the realm of possibility and resides in the "dream job" category now. I'm almost 40 with little in the way of college study and the only things I do are work my crappy retail job and come home to play video games, watch movies or surf this glorious web. I have no knowledge of computers beyond what I need to do the aforementioned things so I can't even try to seek out something that touches on my major interests. I really have no bearing on the future.

Figuring out what you want to do in life is really one of the hardest things a person will ever do. It's kinda like falling in love, everybody always says, "How do you know?", well you just kinda know when you get there. And that doesn't mean every day is glorious. Pretty much every day there's something that sucks about my job. It's still a job. I don't think a person needs to have a dream job to be satisfied, just a job worth tolerating the BS. If you feel like you're stuck in a rut, all I can say is starting trying new things. Meet some new people. Get out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised what you can make a living doing.

When I was younger, I wanted to create things. Create what? I had no idea. I just wanted to create things. But who create things? Yes, designers, of course! I wanted to be a designer! What would I design? I had no idea. There are tons of different types of designers, and I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do. A few years later, I started studying advertising and graphic design. I quit after one year. I loved graphic design, but I couldn't see myself doing that for the rest of my life. I was playing Banjo Kazooie when it struck me. Someone had to be designing all those cool games I was playing! That was it. I wanted to be a Game Designer. I had the chance to work as a Gameplay/Level designer on a RTS game. I loved my job to the point where I was doing voluntary overtime to add new features to the game and finish my maps. Unfortunately, the project got canceled (the studio and the client couldn't come to an agreement on something), and the studio ended up closing due to the lack of fundings. Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience. I am currently a game tester, which is also pretty cool, and I still cherish my dream of being a game designer. I still do game design outside of work when I'm not working 60+ hours a week. Someday, I would love to have my own studio. One can only dream!

I'm 33, but I don't plan on growing up anytime soon. Where's the fun in that? |

That's the best part of life! Beside the fact I drive a motorbike or a car every now and then, and have a beer sometimes, I do not feel "grown up" at all. But.. What about the things I wanted to do when I was younger? Well, I had no idea, and still I don't have a plan. I love chemistry, and a good pay might be useful when having expensive hobbies. So that got me into college. But other than that, no idea. I have some kind a "bucket list" though, and it goes on forever; basejumping, skydiving, track days with my car and/or bike, rafting etc. etc. Some way I think my real "thing" I wanted to do was just enjoying life, and so far that's going pretty good. |
