Grizz,

i'm afraid you'll have to move to Japan...

Nintendo and Namco team up for Mario Kart arcade game
A third Mario Kart Arcade GP game is certainly surprising in this day and age of on-line gaming. I guess the arcade scene in Japan is still strong enough to support it although here in the States arcades are as rare as Fotomats.

Should we start a petition to get Nintendo to release Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 & 2 for the Wii U? It'd be an interesting test of the persuasiveness of this forum.

Mario Kart Arcade GP 3 is being developed collaboratively between Nintendo and Namco Bandai just like the next Super Smash Bros. game is. Could this mean Super Smash Bros. will eventually get an arcade release?

Question: Does any one know if Mario Kart Wii U is being developed by EAD development group 1? I sure hope so since they did such an incredible job with Mario Kart Wii. :yeah:

Mario Kart 64 is actually the only game in the series which I have played. I doubt the other ones would live up to the standards created by MK64. I actually thought Mario Kart 64 was the first game in the series for a very long time until, probably years later, I finally learned about Super Mario Kart.

I discovered Mario Kart 64 one Christmas (also the same Christmas when I first watched Dumb & Dumber, thus starting the "Dumb & Dumber + MK 64 every Christmas" tradition I now have) when the N64 had recently been released and members of our family got one for Christmas. It was during a period when I was not allowed to play video games because I had a mild form of photosensitive epilepsy*****. For that reason, I actually did not get to thoroughly play the N64 until many months later (it actually might have been a year!). Anyway, I was at least able to sneak a peak at some family members playing MK64 that Christmas. Right then and there, I knew I needed an N64. Just watching other people play MK64 was enough for me to know that game was grand.

Mario Kart 64 was my automatic "favorite" game ("favorite" even though I had not been allowed to play it for more than a few mintutes at this point). Its title was, of course, usurped by our beloved Goldeneye, the game that revolutionized FPS gaming and set a standard for all FPS games to come for years afterward.

However, a few years ago, after the X-Box was phased out (okay, maybe more than a "few" years) and I had my share of modern games, with the title of "My Favorite Game" being taken by numerous games along the way (MDK2 --if you have never played this game, you MUST--, Halo:CE, Splinter Cell --a game that made me feel like it was designed FOR ME--, etc...), I finally realized I needed to rethink what my true favorite game really was. I came to the conclusion that MK64 was truly my favorite game -- just thinking about it made me happy. I think I still cry when I experience the ending credits.

However, I eventually experienced Banjo-Kazooie. Though my first completion of that game, which actually occurred long after the N64 was phased out, may have initially left MK64's title unshared, I eventually realized that Banjo-Kazooie might actually be my favorite game. Eventually, Banjo-Kazooie earned at least a shared title with MK64 for being my favorite game.

Now I consider Banjo-Kazooie to be my most favorite, with Banjo-Tooie in a close 2nd and MK64 in a close 3rd. But they might actually be tied. While I was close to finishing Banjo-Tooie, I thought it might be my favorite game. Basically, I'm not sure which is my favorite. All I can say for certain is that those three games are in my top 5, and 1st place belongs to one of them.

*****Playing video games caused me to experience seizures in the form of facial twitching (blinking and smirking, etc...), and the intensity and duration of the twitches was determined by amount I played and by what I played (lower graphic quality caused more twitching, which is why playing X-Box has never really caused me to twitch). I'm sure I still have the condition, but it seems to be less severe now (I have been playing lots of N64 for the past year and have experienced little or no twitching, even though N64 has caused me to twitch previously).

Wow, I might have gone off topic slightly.

I have a POLL regarding satisfaction with current N64 joystick options:

Responses are appreciated. Feel free to post any ideas too.

I would love to play them as EShop download. I played the original a few times..when i see it i pounce. However I have never been able to use a power up as the button in the centre of the wheel has been broken every time I have got the chance to play it.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX Is Drifting Into Western Arcades This Winter

Quote:

Namco Bandai and Nintendo announced Mario Kart GP DX at the start of the year, but a western release of the coin-op hasn't been up for discussion - until now, that is.

Arcade Hero is reporting that the game will be making its way out of Japan this year, with attendees at the IAAPA 2013 trade show in Orlando being among the first to experience the title in the west.

Based on mechanics seen in Mario Kart 7 and boasting 10 tracks, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX features the usual selection of Nintendo characters, as well as Pac-Man and Don from the Taiko no Tatsujin franchise.

Wouldn't a Mario Kart Arcade GP compilation be a great selling point if made available for the Wii U? It'd probably be the only way that western audiences would get to experience all three games considering how scarce arcades are nowadays.

Yes, that collection would sell a ton!

Does anyone know if/when Big N plans to pull the plug on MK Wii wi-fi channel? Had a blast racing the last two nights...will miss it a bit more that the now defunct Wii Weather and Wii News channels....

I doubt Nintendo will pull the plug on Mario Kart Wii's Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) mode before MK8 is released on the Wii U next year. Who knows, Nintendo may even keep up support for MKW's on-line play after that as Mario Kart DS's on-line is still operational and that game was released all the way back in 2005.

You know I never played a lot of MK Wii online. I've played a TON of MK7 online though.

I'd still like to experience one of those arcade machines. Given how far I am from any kind of metro area though, I don't see that happening.

I beat ya to it (in the OMG SRSLY CANT WAIT - (future release pwnage) topic) but it is quite a fun looking game. As someone who has only played a little of Super Mario Kart I could definitely get into this one if I get a Wii U. :yoshi:

Hello,

A question about Mario Kart 8, Is it worth buying it?

Now before you say "yes buy it!" I have another question and a few comment about the current Mario Kart series.
From the N64 and the GameCube and Mario Kart DS it was about skill, you can Drift fast, and do a Snake pattern all over the map make some land-scape-shortcuts and just be good at it. (Mario kart DS is my favorite )

When I played Mario Kart on the Wii, I was slightly disappointed because mainly the drifting part.. and the controls, It just want a little bit to slow. and steering was (with the wheel) very hard. I tried with the nunchuck and it was ok I guess, and "auto drifting" made me go like "WTF.."

So I gave it another chance on the 3DS, Mario Kart 7, Again the drifting part which was almost impossible to snake,
(yeah i`m a hobby of snaking lol)

But the part that really got me mad was this:

I tried to get 3 stars on every map on every CC mode, the 50CC and 100CC was easy, but with 150CC, Is just impossible..
It was just a blue-shell-fest and the game is based on luck,
I got 1st place: and after every lap, I got a blue shell on my tail and there was nothing I could do (My record was 3 blue shells on rainbow road.)
I was never able to get 3 stars on 1 cup, because I got beaten by millions of blue shells.

Or this my luck or is this the system.. I have no idea.

So is Mario Kart 8 going to be like this? slower/chased by a stampede of blue shells at the end/impossible to drift compare to the other Mario Kart games?

When I saw the videos it all looked kinda.. slow for me but, maybe its just the add

Thank you.

gotta agree with you. the drifting part without an R button is wonky. im too used to MK64 and its perfect controls. I simply cant get Gold on every cup in MK Wii for this reason.

Yes buy it :P

I got all gold cups on the Wii game sometime last year. It is tough, but it can be done.

Not too sure what the controls are going to be for the latest release Vinyl, but I'm sure it will be good :yeah:

Well the game isn't out yet so I don't think we can really answer the question.

I've gotten 3 stars on all the cups in the 3DS game (and Wii game), so it certainly isn't impossible. The best things to do there are, spend the first lap getting ten coins, try to not drive in the center of the road since this is where the highest concentration of CPU racers and items tend to be, and be sure to check the bottom screen constantly to see what items the CPU players get. They tend to hold onto blue shells and lightning a bit before using them, so you can see them coming and prepare a bit for them. With lightning, make sure you don't jump over a pit when a CPU has it, and with a blue, only thing you can do there is let the second-place guy pass you if they're close behind.

As for drifting, I actually don't think the Wii/3DS version of drifting requires less skill than the snaking stuff. It's just different, and takes some practice to get used to the change. Turning sharper achieves the boost faster, so finding and maintaining good racing lines still takes skill. I've certainly run into players who had mad skillz at the games and were unstoppable even with items. I also prefer it because constantly pressing the stick/D-pad back and forth is just plain annoying.

As for luck, I don't find the games to be any more luck-based than previous games in the series, with the exception of Super Mario Kart. In fact, I find Mario Kart 64 to be the most imbalanced since the racer in second place can still get every item, including powerful stuff like stars and lightning. Double Dash!! also felt more difficult to me since you can't drag stuff behind your kart to block oncoming items.

That said, if you're buying a Mario Kart game for the single player, it's probably not worth it.

That works if you're just trying to win, but if you want a 3-star ranking then you have to hold first place for a significant portion of each race.

BTW, my Wii U just arrived yesterday although I haven't set it up yet. Can't decide if I want to put away my old Wii to make room for it.

Here's my dilemma, even though I own a Classic Controller Pro I've kinda gotten used to playing all my Wii and Virtual Console games with the GameCube controller. What to do, what to do?
