If your TV is a CRTV, DO NOT PUT THE WII AWAY. Here's why:
1. Even with an official composite (or is it component?) cord, the Wii U output on a CRTV is off. The imagine is too big for the screen (and yes, I adjusted the output settings).

2. If you transfer your Virtual Console purchases from your Wii to WiiU, you cannot transfer them back. I've read online a few bemoaning this fact.

3. It is super easy to sync wii motes with whichever console you are using at the time. The WiiU does not have a hatch to conceal the sync button, which is a plus.

In other news . . . . confirmation of MK8 online support!

No, I play all of my games nowadays on my 40 inch Sharp Aquos LCD and I'm sure the Wii U will look absolutely glorious on it.

The only downside of boxing up the Wii is that I'll lose the ability to play my Virtual Console games (I don't want to transfer them) but that's ok because I have New Super Mario Bros. U and Luigi U to tied me over until Mario Kart 8 ships late next month.

Mario Kart 8 looks so spectacular that I'm sure the franchise's cult is going to gain a whole lot more followers when it's released.

Which on-line or brick & mortar store is the best to buy the North American version of Mario Kart 8 from? In other words, which store will have the lowest price or best incentive gift?

Mario Kart 8 Limited Edition Software Bundle Coming To North America (sort of)

Nintendo Life

When the Mario Kart 8 limited edition software bundle - containing a copy of the game and a Blue Shell figurine - was announced for Europe, many Nintendo fans across North America feared they would be missing out on a collectable item. Fortunately, for those wanting something to display next to their The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD limited edition Ganondorf figurines, a small window of opportunity has opened for Mario Kart fans in the US. The Nintendo World store in New York has revealed on Twitter that they too will be selling the same limited edition bundle as Europe, albeit with different outer box artwork.

The Nintendo World exclusivity of the recently announced bundle will, no doubt, come as a blow to those not living within a reasonable distance of New York, as the store doesn’t currently offer online or phone orders.

Man! Nintendo really doesn't realize how much money they can separate from me in the name of Mario Kart.

Well for those that get the goodies, enjoy!

The Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle we're getting here in the States is nice but I wish Nintendo would offer alternatives. Perhaps the Mario Kart 8 Pro Bundle which would include a special edition Wii U Pro Controller rather than the Mario themed Wii-mote and red wheel.

Mario Kart will always be a success, but with A CONTROLLER and not some gimmicks. it's a terrible idea to control your character with motion control as it lag and is less sharp than usual. at least you have the choice to use whatever you want but you loose function when using a regular controller. this is what piss me off with MK Wii.

In Mario Kart Wii, Nintendo gave Wii-wheel users a slight advantage with respect to items to compensate for the fact that they were using a less precise input device. Overall I thought it was balanced pretty well.

I'm a die-hard controller user but I like the fact that Mario Kart games now support alternate forms of controlling vehicles as it opens up the franchise to a much wider audience.

My friend over at Gamestop is telling me that based on presales Mario Kart 8 is going to be HUGE. :)

I was never a big fan of the motion control in Mario Kart Wii, but I agree, it's cool to have the option there for people. My wife prefers to play that way.

I'll finally have to break down and buy a Pro controller for this game though. Shucks that I can't keep getting more mileage out of my Wavebirds on current gen systems. :P

My friend and ex co-worker R. is going to buy the console pack that comes bundled with the MK8 and NSMBU games plus a free download game if you register.
Best streetprice appears to be around 280 euro.
3 AAA+ retail games @ 60 euro each = 180 euro so you're basically buying the console + gamepad for 100 euro.
Now THAT is an offer you simply can't refuse.
I'm sure this will convince a lot of other "fence sitters" to take the plunge as well.
Some might even consider it as a second console now; even if you know you're only going to buy a few more 1st party games and nothing else (like my friend) at this price level it makes sense.

I'm feeling very positive about this this game; it has already created a considerable buzz around the interwebs and i sense it could be a turning point for the Wii U.

Here in Euroland the MK8 bundle includes the game disc.
I thought it also included NSMBU but i think that's probably being thrown in by the retaler.

And if you register the MK8 game before 06/30, you get a download code for a digital game.

I just got back from playing the MK8 demo over at GameStop. Great game and much more challenging than Mario Kart Wii. The graphics on all 8 demo tracks are gorgeous and all the character models are rendered beautifully. Let me stress this again, MK8 is a much more skill based game than the Wii iteration so don't expect the 150cc single-player portion to be a walk in the park. I loved my brief time with the demo and I'm really looking forward to playing the full version on my big HDTV with the sound blasting through my surround sound system. :w00t:

I'd totally be up for it!

How do friends requests work on Wii U? Still both need to add each other?

I've got my physical copy of Mario Kart 8 reserved but some of my friends are getting it digitally. Am I old fashioned for wanting a hard copy of the game?

No you are not my friend :)

The only digital copy I have is WindWaker HD and just because I couldn't wait a second more for an offer for the code so I could go buy my physical copy. Every time the choice is there I'll go for the disk ;)

Pre-ordered the Collector's Edition today.
It will be my first current gen purchase since Mario 3D World; because i'm on such a tight budget i can't really afford to buy new games.
So frustrating!

I'm surprised that you haven't picked up a Wii U yet given that they're available at such a reasonable price nowadays. I heard rumor that some retailers in Canada are actually selling the 8GB basic model for well under $200.

Mario Kart 8 is stirring a lot of excitement here in the United States and is causing both Microsoft and Sony fans to admit that the Wii U is the perfect compliment to either the Xbox One of PS4. Personally, I believe MK8 proves that the Wii U is a pretty good standalone console given how drop-dead gorgeous its visuals are.

I really like the idea of doing a Nintendo64Forever Mario Kart 8 on-line tournament as long as we keep things friendly and not too serious. :)

Uhg.... I'm not ready to spend this amount of money on such a "dispensable thing" as videogames right now... When MK8 comes out I think I'm gonna have to leave the forum for a while...

i've said it before and enough times, when a red unit will become available, i'll pre-order it first hand. otherwise i'm in no rush has I have tons of stuff to play/do in real life before that.
