The thing is that now i feel sorta "forced" to spend extra money to make my copy of the game complete once again.
Granted, the price is very reasonable for what you get but i'm still undecided on the whole concept of paid DLC.

@MKII: Agreed, it would feel awkward having the game and the new "SHOP" taunting you if you elected not to get the DLC. But the DLC is essentially like getting Mario Kart 8.5 for $12, so I am really excited for it (and some new courses).

@Cabanon: Not sure. Just as an FYI, the free DLC came to me (USA) via auto update and then selecting a new SHOP button on the title screen, so no actual code was involved. The forthcoming paid DLCs are also available on the SHOP page, so I do not anticipate getting an actual code. HOWEVER, in Europe, I saw that all three DLC were available through the eShop . . . and I expect that the eShop would issue the code. So maybe there is hope for your quest .?.?

UPDATE ON BENZ Karts: According to Super Mario Wiki's MK8 page:
Silver Arrow = Pipe Frame
GLA = Badwagon
Roadster =Standard Kart
but I am always suspicious of these Prima ratings.

I know you can buy things on XBLA without having a console, which I did before Activision pulled the plug on ALL Guitar Hero DLC. you can do the same on PSN as well. you just need to create an account, thats it.

Folks, we have some work to do:

Version 2.0:
•Increases the maximum player race or battle rating to 99,999 from 9,999. :omg: :omg: :omg:

And I was feeling a tad smug about breaking into the 3,000 club last night

I think it's a very good thing. when caping at maximum, players feel they've accomplished everything and stop playing. the only thing they would come back for to play this game would have been DLC.

great move by Nintendo !

So far I'm loving the DLC but I wish Nintendo had added another perk for collecting more gold coins. Maybe some special edition gold Mercedes concept car or something. X_D

I'm not a VR hog (presently hovering around 6300) so I have no problem with Nintendo bumping the limit up to 100k. :P

I hear you on the added coin perk.

On the new VR threshold, can you imagine the amount of points on the line when the average racer in a 12 racer field is like 55,000 VR?? :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Yeah, that's gonna be insane!

More random MK8 DLC thoughts:

1) I've raced on-line using all the new Mercedes vehicles and I now know which one I'm going to use in our Friday night races. 8)

2) Is it my imagination or has item distribution been improved?

3) Checked my stats and I've performed 7402 Super Mini-Turbos and a whopping 21592 Jump Boosts! :o

How is the MK8 DLC paid for? Using Nintendo Points?
Just wondering, since I can get those cards at a discount at the moment (20% off).

I'm in the US. It asked for credit card or eShop card. I think Nintendo Points are limited to Wii Shop Channel.

Been thinking about those DLC courses...
Here's the thing: i don't think they will available in online matches.
Not everyone will have them installed so unless they somehow divide contestants into "haves" and "have nots" BEFORE the course selection it is not going to work.
And i don't think Nintendo will want to split the user base and make the "have nots" feel left out.

Or Nintendo could make them available online to everyone. But if you want to win on the new courses, you'll need some practice (unless your name is Boomdiers). What better incentive for purchasing the DLC?

I can't tell you how many times I have been in the process of shutting down my :Wii U: after a mid-day kiddie session and seen you were online and thinking ah, c'mon, give daddy some alone time with his :Wii U: so I can race with MK :D Someday . . . .

And i'm pretty sure this sentiment will be repeated in many households across the world.
This coming holiday season the :Wii U: will have some very attractive bundles, a well established line up of AAA titles , the lowest price and the new "reasonably priced" amiibo toys.
I think it has a very good chance of ending up as the overall best seller.

A Link Between Worlds has been taking up a LOT of my time but i'll try be online tonight.

Love the new :Wii U: icon BTW :yeah:

yes you are right. the wiiu is finally picking up the interest with announced games. cant wait to see what bundles will be available later november/early december and fi they're going to drop the price a bit just to ensure they crush the competition.

With the release of Super Smash Bros. IV this holiday season, I suspect the Wii U is going to be an extremely hot commodity so don't expect any kind of price drop on the console between now and then.

I think I just saw Mario 3D is going to be the new pack-in game. It just keeps getting better.

Back to MK8, if anyone is having a hard time pulling up the new onscreen map (cough like me cough), you need to select "-" ON THE GAMEPAD ONLY regardless of the controller being used. And you do so at the race screen.

I had a hard time figuring this out too. :-8

The good news is that you only need to do it once and it stays that way every time you boot up the game.

Me too. Love it! (I've noticed that the Wii U Pro controller is getting harder to come by on eBay ever since the release of MK8.). BTW, i've got mine tricked out with an NES decalgirl decal and gel tabz.

I just scored 10 balloons (and 1st place) in a fierce Battle Mode ehh... battle.
never saw a double digit score, let alone achieve it myself :yeah:

And yesterday i hit three karts with one very lucky triple shell shot.. what are the odds of that ever happening?

I found this to be really interesting, as there were a number of techniques I did not know about.

Earlier today i was heading for a 1st place victory when i was overtaken by a Bullet Bill.
But when i crossed the finish line, i was still ranked as #1. Huh?
Then it slowly dawned on me... for the first time in Mario Kart history, i had actually lapped the player in last position :yeah:

You are an MK8 stud! We've got to hook up some time online and race together (stupid time zones, lol)!

I've been on hiatus from racing online, but still racing. Last night, I swapped out Morton for Mario in my F1/roller setup and finally 3-starred the last 3 150 circuits I had yet to ace. Also used a few techniques from the above article and they seemed to work. Also won for first time a race in which I was blue shelled twice!!

I suppose I need to ace the mirror tracks too to be 100%, but I have a certain disdain for mirror tracks. Seems really lazy for developers to mirror the tracks without even fixing the signs or ? In the ? boxes. I much rather prefer racing tracks in reverse direction, a more thoughtful/realistic approach IMHO **Tips cap to Altus for Roadsters 64**

"Avoiding Getting Hit / Bumped

This is one of the main things in terms of being able to do well. Those who consistently do well are usually better at avoiding items and getting bumped around too much."

It's nearly impossible to avoid getting hit when the person behind you has the triple red shells of doom but I find bumping to be a great tactic for gaining speed. You just have to be able to maintain control while spinning around and getting the short burst of acceleration.
