Filing a claim with USPS; Anyone ever do it and been reimbursed?

So I recently got a package in the mail and the contents were damaged. Mainly the box for Ogre Battle 64. I was pretty upset but I don't want the seller to pay for the mistake USPS made. I attempt to enter the tracking number to start a claim but i keeps giving me

"This Label (or Tracking) Number is currently not eligible for online claim filing. Please go to https://www.usps.com/ship/file-domestic-claims.htm for information on printing and completing a PS Form 1000, Domestic or International Claim."

Not sure what to do from here. Anyone have an idea?

 I am very sorry for your loss as I Know Orge battles is considered one of the hardest and most expensive N64 titles to acquire. I do understand your frustration as I had a friend from Switzerland send me chocolate (less expensive than Orge battle) and when it arrived all the chocolate was missing and all I got was the wrappers, so some fat USPS man had a lovely snack.

It is sad to say but USPS is one of the worst US companies, it's better than say EA or Time Wanner, but if you look at their profit rate you will see that they lose millions of dollars each year and since it is part of the US government (I know that sounds dumb but USPS = United Stats Postal Service) but we end up paying for their lack of ability to do their job right and create profit. In no way am I attacking employees of this company as I know they have little to no control over what happens but it sucks to know that the company at a corporate level sucks and doesn't care about their consumer because no matter what they will still make money.

Please keep me updated because I want to know what you did to fix this problem and if USPS actually maned up to their mistake.

 Was the package insured? If not your likely s.o.l. If it was I think the sender will need to initiate the claim.

 Sorry to hear it man, it certainly isn't the easiest (or cheapest) one to get. I'd try what Kartmaster said!

Probably about 10 years ago, I had a pristine CIB copy of Lufia II (expensive, even back then!) arrive with a mangled box once... something dropped right onto it BADLY ripping the entire front of the box, and this obviously happened during transit. Can't remember if I had it insured or not (maybe I did? because..).. I took it to the nearest USPS office and filed a claim in person... they reviewed the contents and my plead, took the damaged goods, and refunded me the full amount of the money.

Also, I may or may not have unscrewed the cart (using my security bits), switched out the board with some $1 Madden game, put some broken bits of plastic within to make it sound like the insides were damaged, and closed it all up again before going to the office. :whistle:

In hindsight, I really wish I would've kept the manual and map as the person looking over the contents def. had no clue what was included within... a crying shame. >_<

Not insured :(

However the seller already insisted on a partial refund of 50%. I basically paid $23 for a damaged boxed copy without manual so still happy. It also came with all inserts and registration card so I guess I'm okay with the $23 price tag. If anyone has an extra nice box I'm looking :)

Just got off the phone with USPS. They said I would need insurance or the item would need to be shipped Priority to file a claim.

 At least it is very honorable of the seller to take part of the responsibility for the mishap (though he clearly didn't have to) :yeah:
