Ok let's see:

First of all we have to clarify what a box variation is.
For Example: For me this japanese charcoal and this one are 2 different box variations.

So we either have to make 2 lists or agree that slight differences don't count. Personally I think they do count. And I think you do to because you added the Brazil Clear Black (Smoke)

This being said you are missing out on:

- The above example
- The Japanese Midnight Blue
- There is a North American Pokemon/Pikachu Version from Toys R Us that you mentioned, but there is also this version without the gadgets.
- The 5 Other Brazil Funtastics (Anis, Tangerina, Kiwi, Cereja and Uva) You mentioned Jabuticava

Maybe I can find more. That's it for now. Nice Topic.

Thanks DarkLink!

I don`t know if stickers count, could this be custom? or just put on by the store?
The thing is with the Brazilian box, its in Portuguese so the box is 'different'

I've add it to the list, together with everything you mentioned!

No it is not a Sticker, it's printed on. Actually this version is very unique and special. It is the first version of all N64 consoles ever to come out from June 1996.

The big success of the first Pokemon games that came out end of february 1996 (red and green) led to the marketing decision to release the new console (N64) with rare Pokemon playing cards. There was THIS set of Pokemon Cards included. If you look closely you can see them on the white circle print. Later the next box prints did not have the cards anymore.

Getting the console with the white print is therefore pretty easy,it's all over the place if you pay attention to it, getting the cards that were delivered with it in mint or new condition on the other hand is a f***ing pain.

This is also another box variation. It seems that in Italy a company called "GiG Electronics" had its own distributor rights to N64. Their logo is on all of the boxed hardware (Controllers etc.) and the console: Therefore it's a diffrent variation

That is the Australian Pokemon set that was released here :) Our equivalent of the UK battle set, and comes with a Pokemon VHS.

As far as I am concerned only official releases count. Technically it is a variation 1. It didn't come in a box, and this topic is about box variations and 2. It's a prototype I wouldn't count.

This might be a little much to ask. But maybe we can even find out to which regions or countries the different packs were exclusive to? I'm going to start some research on this now.

I've been researching this for about 3 years now and the number of unique boxes all depends to what level of detail you wish to get into. Often Nintendo would change the games advertised on the back of the box and I class these as different editions of the same variant.

It's probably best to seperate the list into a few more different regions to get a firmer grasp on things. Here's what I've come across so far, although I'm sure it's not going to be everything. Let's start with North American releases:

USA

  • Nintendo 64 [Original]
    // 2 Editions
  • Super Mario 64 Players Guide Bundle [Wal*Mart]
  • Limited Edition Gold Controller Bundle [Toys R Us]
    // 2 Editions
  • Limited Edition Extreme Green Controller Bundle [Toys R Us]
  • Bonus Bucks Promo
  • Atomic Purple Controller Bundle
    // 4 Editions
  • Star Wars Episode I: Racer Limited Edition Set
  • Donkey Kong 64 Set
  • Funtastic Series: Fire
    // 2 Editions
  • Funtastic Series: Grape
    // 2 Editions
  • Funtastic Series: Ice
    // 2 Editions
  • Funtastic Series: Jungle
    // 2 Editions
  • Funtastic Series: Smoke
    // 2 Editions
  • Funtastic Series: Watermelon
    // 2 Editions
  • Pokémon Stadium Battle Set
    // 3 Editions
  • Pikachu Nintendo 64
  • Pikachu Nintendo 64 Set [Toys R Us]
  • Limited Edition Gold Control Deck [Toys R Us]

Canada

  • Nintendo 64 [Original]
    // 3 Editions
  • Violet Atomique Bundle
    // 3 Editions, 4th one probably exists
  • Donkey Kong 64 Set
  • Une Série Funtastique: Fire
    // 1 Edition, 2nd unconfirmed
  • Une Série Funtastique: Raisin
    // 1 Edition, 2nd unconfirmed
  • Une Série Funtastique: Ice
    // 1 Edition, 2nd unconfirmed
  • Une Série Funtastique: Jungle
    // 1 Edition, 2nd unconfirmed
  • Une Série Funtastique: Jungle - Donkey Kong 64 & Expansion Pak Bundle
  • Une Série Funtastique: Fumée
    // 2 Editions
  • Une Série Funtastique: Pastèque
    // 1 Edition, 2nd unconfirmed

Finishing off the NTSC boxes with the Japanese releases, I've included the 64DDs for completeness:

Japan

  • Nintendo 64 [Original]
    // 2 Editions
  • Pokémon Cards Bundle
  • All Nippon Airways [ANA]
    // 2nd edition original box with unique console
  • Official Ticket Station Lawson [Competition]
    // 2nd edition original box with unique console & controller
  • Gold Model [Toys R Us]
  • Orange & Black [Daiei Hawks]
  • Clear Black
  • Midnight Blue [Toys R Us]
  • Clear Grey [Jusco 30th Anniversary]
  • Clear Blue
  • Clear Red
  • Pikachu Orange & Yellow
  • Pikachu Blue & Yellow
  • Nintendo 64DD - Randnet Starter Kit
  • Nintendo 64DD - Retail Version

Now for the PAL Stuff, it's easier to first list all the boxes unique to a particular country, then lump everything into a general Europe category. All Australian consoles boxes were unique to them:

UK

  • Nintendo 64 [Original]
    // 4 Editions
  • Limited Edition Gold Controller Bundle
  • Limited Edition Gold Controller + GoldenEye 007 Bundle
  • Super Mario 64 Bundle
  • GoldenEye 007 Bundle
  • Star Wars Episode I: Racer - Limited Edition Set
    // UKV Edition
  • Banjo-Kazooie Bundle
  • F-1 World Grand Prix II Bundle
  • Pokémon Stadium Battle Set
    // 2 Editions; with and without Pokémon: I Choose You Pikachu! VHS

France

  • Le Pack F-1 World Grand Prix
  • International Superstar Soccer 64 Bundle
  • International Superstar Soccer 64 + Super Mario 64 Bundle

Germany

  • Nintendo 64 [Original]
    // german only
  • Pokémon: Pikachu Nintendo 64 + Super Mario 64

Yowza!
I thought "How cool would it have been if there were only 64 variations??" Haha!

EDIT
my apologies to DarkLink

the japanese Nintendo 64 promotion bundle- Double GET Campaign

Along with the two bonus Pokeman cards, it also came with a Mini CD
this was BEFORE Pokemon became a trend in America

Spoiler: click to toggle

So, first it was the poor quality pics, then the hirigana threw me off...
But then i got some proofs-and a few friends in Japan set things straight.

I needed to know that the main logo boldly states getsuto daiichi kyampen ( DOUBLE GET Campaign)

I couldn't see to read the ENTIRE label on the box, thankfully with some help it translates:

"By buying a Nintendo 64 was started from December 10, 1997 in the Nintendo 64 Double Get Campaign, was able to get Mini CD and Pokemon Card"

For what it's worth, the reason for the "circular" box display is to signify a (compact disc)

the W is meant to signify "DOUBLE" :eh:

From what i'm told, these items are common- in Japan...

Great list!

Do these count?
1. - Mario Pak FRA
I cannot tell if the Yellow burst with French writing is printed on the box or is a sticker.

2. The American Airlines N64. Cannot find a pic right now, but saw a pic once upon a time. I believe it was standard grey with the AA logo on the expansion pak cover. Not sure it had a special box (doubt it).

7/16/14 EDIT: Having viewed that lovely ANA console acquired by Kelamy, I realize I goofed in suggesting an American Airlines N64 be added. That was the one I was think of. Sorry for any confusion. :-8

Should this console be considered?

64DD Development Kit

Technically, it is a variation- and can play games.

I think they all count. even though some are Sleeves/Stickers but it is still a part of the N64 box. (including dev kits)
